hey lady look, i don't know what scam your trying to pull here because this is NOT CONTEMPORARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. i've been doing contemporary for a whole year now, and watched tons of contemporary videos and so i think i know what contemporary is and THIS IS NOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and plus any proper dance teacher know to challenge their dancers and you can tell by the look on there faces that this is to easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess it's true that you cannot be 'taught' contemporary dance... it's an art form which you feel, just like an emotion. Still, this is a really good video series for someone who just wants to know where to begin, how to stretch properly to prevent injuries (which is really important!) and how to refine the emotion of the dance to be more poised. it doesn't mean they have to lose the emotion, just make everything that little bit more perfect. <3

It seems that a lot of contemporary dancers share FruityNerd's opinion which is a little bit weird. It feels like these people have named themselves special "look we have this passion you don't!" It's provocative to me because I'm a dance novice who's just beginning to learn. I didn't start skipping around dancing naturally when I was a kid, so you're saying I can never be taught contemporary? Anyways, it's a beautiful dance. hoping to learn (If I can be learned that is)! :)
something to consider...without these very basic principles of "modern" dance there would not be anything called "contemporary" or "lyrical" dance. this educator is right on teaching her students core fundamentals that will be useful to them if they choose to go on dancing at a university or pre-proffessional level. good job...we need more teachers like you!
these girls are fairly good dancers, but definately not contemporary dancers. Far from it. sorry, this should be called a modern dance video not contemporary.
i think you cannot be taught contemporary; i think that it comes from inside and if you feel truly passionate about it then it should come naturally. just my oppionion xx
@FruityNerd I know you commented to this video forever ago, but i want to agree with you. i believe that if your taught a contemporary dance or a lyrical dance really your true feelings and emotions won't come out as well as if you were made it up and put all your effort and your passion and feelings into it. just my opinion as well.
@FruityNerd i think you can be taught but in order for the dance to really look artistic the dancer has to feel it and express feeling. I think teaching basic movements can open ur mind up to the idea behind the dance and from their u can get creative and put emotion behind it. i would not recommend anyone to try contemporary or modern dance if they do not have a feel for music. a lot of people join dance so they can say they can dance but real dancers do it on their own time when nobodys around
@FruityNerd that means that there is no wrong way when you dance your own choreographys and figures? (i want to learn modern or contemporary dance but i'm afraid that i could do something wrong if i make my own figures...)
@FruityNerd Yes but there are certain technicalities to it. You can't just go flopping around on a stage and call it dancing. Although it is contemporary, it is still Dance. And Dance has its things. Pointing of the toes is still important and lots of people still need examples. Not everyone can just make something up. Personally, doing classical ballet, comes from inside. It's just doing a bunch of moves over and over, however, it still fills my heart with joy.

contemporary cant be taught. As a dancer I would use what I've learned in the past and what i"ve seen. You can't be taught it. It has to be, in you.

This is not contemporary dance. It's modern dance. I am a member of a professional modern dance company and we do all of this in our warm up.
