My roomie in college had a red Spider convertible. It rarely ran, slow as anything, and was a rust bucket, but it was so cool to drive with the top down. CIAO!!!!
I had some friends who had 124 Spiders that they bought new, One set of friends had a maroon '74 Spider with tan top and tan vinyl interior, They kept it until '88, But by that time it had quit running due to inadequate lubrication in the engine and there weren't anymore Fiat dealers around.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Sports Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and Fi injectors clean as new!
They are notorious for rust...Just like the british cars of the era and earlier....Poor steel, low nickel content...But the engine was very innovative...
@saabkyle04 oh well you won't see anymore the 2.0 and the 2.4 in the Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler. All the compact and the mid size cars will mount the 1.8 turbo multiair, which is powerful and suck less gas. And if you're interested in fiat cars you will see only the 500 that in the north american market it will be sold as Fiat Cinquecento because the italians (me xD) want you to pronounce "Cinquecento" not Five Hundred like the crappy ford :P
that thing is awesome. We actually have a few fiats around were i live but definitely not very many. Nice find :) Too bad the body is in rough shape, but nothing that isn't salvageable.
Sweet but yeah man I've never even seen one before, I guess it's in pretty good shape if it runs and drives, that's a really good thing, body panels can be replaced!
Sweet man I didn't know that! I've never even seen one before I knew it had to be rare, I bet it's nice all fixed up and with the original steering wheel lol!
