so in dosbox(i sincerely hope you are using dosbox) for your renderer change it to opengl instead of the default surface. For vector based, and 3d based games it makes them a whole hell of a lot faster.

Also in options, at the bottom of the controls list there is a button for mouse, you can turn on mouselook and then set up standard wasd fps controls. You'll have a better time strafing and clicking on things then :D

Playing through Arena and Daggerfall myself for the first time as well :)
