So I'm an apiarist, not a formicarist or termite expert. In my years of beekeeping and knowing the different caste system of the bees, I can only guess that the ones with wings are drones because they reproduce with (at the time) winged queens and the others are workers because they are smaller. Am I right or not?

Not necessarily. When the Termites (which are blind) are snuggled inside their mounds, they are incredibly difficult to root out. Ants have trouble swarming the much larger (and albet harder shelled) termites. I've seen a colony of termites successfully defend itself of millions of driver ants because of that. I was much surprised.

It looks like the attack is actually being repelled; the males(winged termites) flew away from the battlefield, the workers hid inside the pit, and half a dozen dozen termites went out to fight while a few others went inside or stayed inside to use their bodies to obtrude the entrance (These are basic termite warefare tactics when defending fortresses). Sure about a dozen termites might not make it through the day, but the attack will be repelled--for the time being.
