... there are 2 factions regarding dante's films ... pros and cons.. this only shows how mainstream movies brainwashed the majority of our people, and yes most of us are shocked with the Obscene features of this movie.. but imo we should try to view things not by it's aesthetic nature, but understand what the director has planted whitin the movie.. This "movie" is rated PG (Pure Garbage). Watching my dog relieving himself is a sight to behold than watching this movie. I hope the maker of Serbis would learn how brazilian or mexican movies can make movies about poverty that would really touch your heart. Serbis would make you throw up. Not a surprise that Cannes treated this movie as garbage.

tama ka dyan sana maapreciate na nila yung storya hindi puro graphics. gusto ko bumalik yung action film mahirap kasi gawin kahit sa hollywood wala na din. puro action adventure. nakakamiss manuod ng ganoon pelikela mala con-air, face-off, misan kasi nakakasawa na manuod ng spiderman at iba pa.

i thought it was great..it was an epic tale of a condensed melodramatic filipino life..
which we portray mostly in our "telenovelas" , just condensed.
the sense of irony in the movie was amazingly outstanding....and the signifance of the stairs of the theater was to show the attitude of the filipino people towards laws and regulations.
IRONY is the best way to describe the filipino society.

not necessarily, no.. serbis is part of the Filipino language (obviously translates to "service" in English) and is used in different contexts. A lot of Filipino words are derived from Spanish. This just happens to have been derived from English. It's not just how a Filipino would pronounce an English word. In fact that should explain why we pronounce the way we do. It's how foreign words sound when assimilated with the Filipino language.. and it's by no means incorrect or ignorant.

IMHO, Serbis is a rather weak film. A desperate attempt to be controversial. There are better Filipino films out there, just skip this one.

the actors here CAN act unlike sharon cuneta, richard gutierez and company that are so popular...

"Itim", "Batch '81", "Kisapmata" (by Mike de Leon). I've always thought that the '70s was the "golden era" of Philippine cinema.
Or "Scorpio Nights" by Peque Gallaga. There's also that film by Katski Flores, "Still Life". But they're not from the '70s.

@hawthornroot sinong gustong Manood? syempre yung mga taong mahilig sa showbiz at sa mga lovelife ng mga kapricho nating mga artista. (Kapamilya o Kapuso pare-pareho lng sila)
Okay naman yung mga gannun palabas. Ang masama masyado ata tayong sumosobra. Ang nagustuhan ko lng n mainstram ngayon ay ang Baler kasi more on historical fact (na may konting drama edit) at may matututunan. Mabuti may mga ganitong indie kahit papano namumulat ako sa katotohanan.

kaya pag nasapinas ako, i rarely watch tv...noong jan.-feb. nasa pinas ako ang peyborit ko PINOY HENYO! ahahaha, kakatuwa e...pero mga telenobela: temptation of wife & burger king este BAKER king[i know it's not pinoy but still...], alakdana, nita negrita, machete, dwarfina narinig at nakikita ko mga patalastas nila -- sus, nakulo talaga

... there are 2 factions regarding dante's films ... pros and cons.. this only shows how mainstream movies brainwashed the majority of our people, and yes most of us are shocked with the Obscene features of this movie.. but imo we should try to view things not by it's aesthetic nature, but understand what the director has planted whitin the movie.. IMO haha peace^^

This "movie" is rated PG (Pure Garbage). Watching my dog relieving himself is a sight to behold than watching this movie. I hope the maker of Serbis would learn how brazilian or mexican movies can make movies about poverty that would really touch your heart. Serbis would make you throw up. Not a surprise that Cannes treated this movie as garbage.

tama ka dyan sana maapreciate na nila yung storya hindi puro graphics. gusto ko bumalik yung action film mahirap kasi gawin kahit sa hollywood wala na din. puro action adventure. nakakamiss manuod ng ganoon pelikela mala con-air, face-off, misan kasi nakakasawa na manuod ng spiderman at iba pa.

this film is not about the storyline but needs critical thinking when seen..
i thought it was great..it was an epic tale of a condensed melodramatic filipino life..
which we portray mostly in our "telenovelas" , just condensed.
the sense of irony in the movie was amazingly outstanding....and the signifance of the stairs of the theater was to show the attitude of the filipino people towards laws and regulations.
IRONY is the best way to describe the filipino society.

it revolved around a story about the poor and homo erotic themes, both which were never before introduced in the filipino cinema.. never.. not once or twice.. maybe 50% of the time a year.. just this one time.. because its so controversial.. it would probably never be brought up again.. *(sarcasm)

not necessarily, no.. serbis is part of the Filipino language (obviously translates to "service" in English) and is used in different contexts. A lot of Filipino words are derived from Spanish. This just happens to have been derived from English. It's not just how a Filipino would pronounce an English word. In fact that should explain why we pronounce the way we do. It's how foreign words sound when assimilated with the Filipino language.. and it's by no means incorrect or ignorant.

this film is a disappointment. can't believe that it holds the distinction of having been in competition in cannes. walang ginawa kundi maglakad sa hagdan ang mga artista dito, at sinundan naman ng tangang cameraman. alam kaya ni brillante mendoza na nakakahilo mga pelikula n'ya? i walked out halfway through tirador because of the erratic camera shots.

ako nagsasabi lang ng totoo ha. oo magagaling sana yung mga director dito sa pilipinas kaso nakakasuya na yung gantong theme ng pelikula, wala na bang ibang nangyayari sa pilipinas kundi depression, sex at kung anu-ano pang mga negatibong bagay. sana may mai-offer naman tayong bago. hindi basta controversial, gugustuhin na ng mga taong panoorin.

obviously, people overseas are just upset that most films imported from the philippines are like this. i hope they make an effort in making films with a different theme. i believe in the talent of filipino. yeah, this is talent, but this shouldn't be it. there must be something more. and yeah, this is reality, but seriously, there are so much more thats real about the philippines. lets stop highlighting what's so bad about our country.

@nene1622 Yes, I agree. I'll need to see this one by Brillante however I did not like Kinatay because of its visuals not because it was grotesque. Half the time, I thought I was watching a camera copy of Kinatay.

Marami pong mga indie film n may tema na hindi tungkol sa sex at kabaklaaan, maaring nagkataon na mas mabenta po ang mga ganitong storya o mas nakakikitaan ng potensyal o magandang eksekyusyon ang ganitong klaseng pelikula! Kung nababastusan ka sa mga pinoy film maker, alm mo ba ang nagpasinumo o history ng porn?

ang ibig mong sabihin, dapat lang i export ang mga pelikulang kaayaaya sa paningin ng manonood at yung pelikula na mag po project na yung bansa namin ay isang maunlad na bansa.

para kang di pinoy!!!May alam ka ba sa pinag sasasabe mo!!! Sa isang international film fest tulad ng Cannes bobo lang ang ng iinsulto sa dahilan ng sitwasyon ng isang bansa!!!! Ang mga gani Lino Brocka na nakaabot sa Cannes ay nag sasalamin din ng kalagayan ng pagiging 3rd world ng Pilipinas, kung ininsulto man ang mga pinoy movies abroad hindi dahil sa pinakita nito ang realidad ng Pilipinas kundi hindi lang ito nagustuhan ng kritiko. Usapin ito ng personal taste at art sa pelikula!!!!!
