  • Okay, 4 years later, what has improved?

  • If you can name a president who was "in power" during a time when you were a grown adult who you honestly fully agreed with, I don't believe you. It is impossible for someone, even a president, to come up with a view that everyone will agree with.

  • @nosrednugj keep believing the myths you hear on Faux Noise if you like. Facts are facts. Extreme wall street corruption led to a terrible economy. Extreme fiscal irresponsibility under the Bush II presidency led to a terrible national debt and job losses. Conservatives can't hide from their stunningly bad record, much as they'd like to.

  • Another clueless Democrat. His commentary is filled with hope and optimism, but entirely lacking in substance.

  • @nosrednugj

the fact that republicans are by and large christians, and that the christian religion is itself one of hope and optimism and no substance, makes you sound kind of stupid.

  • I wonder how this is working out for Garrison?

  • @Beesh03 very funny, you quoting Palin?

  • @Flopthelot58 He's probably just quoting Glenn Reynolds ("Instapundit").

  • Bad idea for Keillor to get involved in politics. Too many radicals/idiots on both sides not open to criticism or advice...

  • It was a pity about this message. I saw you yesterday in Houston. It was great, as I am listen to you for years and years.

Fortunately, it looks like you learn a little bit that we are good Republicans and the 7 years , so sour for you and others, it has been a lot worst in just 2 years and we had the guts to CHANGE IT !

Keep to the program Mr. Keillor, you are so great at it, and leave the politics to politicians and let them suffer their own mistakes

  • Flash forward to today. Happy with it?

  • Clear vision? Nope.

Speak the English language? Only from a teleprompter.

He can give us a campaign and that is about it.

Young people turned out in droves because they had no idea about who he really is. An election brought to you by the American Idol generation.

Sour years? The last 18 months have been worse than the 90s that you ask us to forget.

Let's hope the people wise up in 2012 and go for substance this time over "a thrill running up" their legs.

  • @CaspianCG Well, "Speak the English language" is kind of relative. If you compare him to his predecessor....well, no, that isn't a fair comparison. Almost anybody sounds good next to ol' Dubya--even sober.

No, the last 18 months _haven't_ been too good--although the people who want to elect a Dubya-clone seem to have forgotten who crashed the economy in the first place. Well, not forgotten, exactly. If all they ever listen to is Faux News and Rush, they never knew to begin with.

  • Hey! I"'m old, and I voted for Obama.

  • Probably not as old as you...but that's another story.

  • At least obama now has the half-pug, half ape mutant vote.

  • Hey G.K. got any buyer's remorse yet!

  • @OldAgitator Way to stay relevant, genius.

  • Glad to hear that a man of intelligence thinks this way. You were correct, and well said, Mr. Keillor. The Neoconservative Right ruined the country and trampled on freedom, democracy, and prosperity for eight years. Time for us Democrats to roll up our sleeves and fix their mess. (again)

  • Comment removed

  • Our economy was devastated by The Fed, The Community Reinvestment Act, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac... all creations of the Democratic Pary.

  • @nosrednugj

That's rich. Blame it one 100-year-Democrats. Not Bush's spending spree and pointless unfunded wars. RICH I SAY. You reps really are full of yourselves. And Jesus, and a good helping of peanut butter fudge and whiskey.

  • Sorry You Were Wrong!

  • Keillor backed Obama because

    A) He's a democrat

    B) He's a good speaker

    C) He's a "humanitarian"

    That's not enough for me.

  • @burns46824 What were you looking for? I am just curious.

  • Balls.

  • oh I am sorry thought you had some actual insight but no you are just a jackass. I won't bother you with a serious question again.

  • @burns46824 You are a jackhole aren't you. Well shucks, that ain't too bad, ain't it Bubba? Hows that in your language.

  • Yes, Mr. Keller young people turn out "in droves" for Mr. Obama, primarily because they're naive and inexperienced and have a lot to learn. But you Mr. Keller, I would have thought were much wiser than that. I was always a big fan but you've lost me and I feel very sad. I hope when you come to realize how wrong you were about Mr. Obama, That you will be just as bold in making a statement to that effect. A repentance if you will...

    RD

  • How are you feeling now Garrison. Yes great story. It turns out it is probably just that . . . a story and you swallowed it hook line and sinker. Dig down deep GK and get ready to pay for what you and the rest of your regressives did to us. Garrison, you're still only good at writing fiction.

  • So much hope and change! I can't stand it!!!

  • Obama is an empty suit. All he can do is talk.

  • So how do you like him NOW, Garrison???

  • That's right, the man said "repairing the damage that's been done over the past seven years." You don't even believe that the unemployment rate is Obama's fault, or that the stimulus package was an aberrant response to a deep recession, do you? You just want to be a typical Republican troll. Well boo hoo. Come up with some ideas besides "unregulated markets" (no we are NOT going to forget what caused the housing bubble and crash!), and maybe the rest of the country will start listening again.

  • It's weird to see all these people complaining about the politics. Garrison's ALWAYS somewhat political.

  • stay out of politics!! for god sakes stay out of politics.

  • I'd like to see you prove that fox brainwashes, photolitherland. Atleast we conservatives actually do something rather than sit around waiting for someone to do work for us. Obama is for socialism, Marxism, communism, and sit-on-your-ass-while-the-government-bails-you-out-ism (and abortions). Am I the only person that wants to actually be productive and live up to what the constitution really was written about? Your own prosperity and support of the Blessings of Liberty. We were free, now what?

  • You forgot "support the general welfare." But maybe that was intentional. I'll take freedom in the bedroom over freedom for gigantic capital to screw us on Wall St., anyday. The banking game needs a FUNCTIONING referee, which means that we must hire people who believe that government can do some good, instead of hiring people who are determined to prove that it can not.

  • This is a very silly comment. You would have us believe that Fox doesn't brainwash but your language confirms it. Free, socialism, marxism, "we do all the work". You need to read more widely. As an Australian, I know Rupert very well. If you support his agenda then you may think you are acting in self-interest but unfortunately, you become another of his dupes. Are you aware of Murdoch's current attacks on public media in the UK and Australia? Rresearch will tell you what Fox and Rupert are.

  • Are you some kind of Dumb Fuck who doesn't realize when someone who is quoting the greatest movie ever?

  • i am the populist from HELL........i have all the bastards and your FRICAN MONKEY is gonna raise your gas and energy costs to put you in the FRICAN POOR HOUSE.

  • AL GORE IS THE NEW HITLER............green is the new brown shirt of the GORESTAPO,,,,,

  • I'm relieved to discover this. It is time the United States woke up. People who have personal problems with the fact that the United States is based upon and consists of diverse population are, if fact of the minoriy. I support Obama and, will be a force for decades. I am a white male, and have been embarrased for too long by the ignorant few in this country.

  • I'm a foreigner in your great country, but for all its wonderments, I have been dismayed at what passes here for political debate. And I see more of it here in many of the posted comments.

As Compte de Maistre famously quoted, every country gets the government it deserves.

    Good luck, folks!

  • are you some kinda godless commie PREvert?

  • its easter boys and girls and DYKES ON BYKES WILL SEND THEIR SECRET CRUSH MATES ''KYKES ON BYKES" easter baskets of LOVE filled with 2 sticks, 3 nails a crown of thorns, a cup of gaul and a picture of a wall street rich pig bankster that ought to complete the bon bon frou frou maribou chinsoire gift.

  • Just now entering a very SOUR period, thank you.

  • this valentine's day, when garrison sings, DYKES on BYKES will send maribou festooned frou frou chinsorie to KYKES ON BYKES, who will become verklempt and svitz in their borscht.

  • You spent 30 years of your life working for the dept. of defense? Are you pro war? It's no surprise you'd disagree with anti-Bush enlightenment. Unless you are in charge of the Scottsdale Center, you have no say in where Harrison performs.

  • @HunterMann

Working for defense = pro war. Only to a Lib.

  • How wrong he was. Obama was a disaster.

  • @MrJazzyboss Actually it was Bush that was wrong and left Obama with a mess that could take the democratic party 8 years to fix. This is similar to past-president of Mexico(Vicente Fox) inheriting over 70 years of the other party's domination of Mexico. Obama bad? Not as bad as anything the republicans have offered us for during the last 100 years.

  • You should have voted for Ron Paul. Obama's CHANGE means more of the Status Quo. Oh well... Too late now!

  • This is so photoshopped. Everyone knows Garrison Keillor is asian.

  • I see your point - why does Keillor's show persona bug me? I love the music and much of his show - there's just something untrue or shallow in his presentation. I also heard his former partner from the 70's rip him a new one as the show was nonprofit - but Keillor makes a pretty fat salary - and Keillor, as I recall, treated him pretty badly at that point - being put on the spot. I think that is when I started finding him phoney - but this is ONLY my opinion - that's all. I respect yours.

  • maybe it can seem as if he's phony to you. seems as if he's faux-naturale and just pretending to seem meek and humble and "accidentally" poetic. not my personal feelings but maybe those are yours.

  • I see your point feurzug, we should only listen to people who hang out on youtube and leave comments, now these are the people we should go to for advice.

Anyone who has raised themselves up from poverty or just being middle-class, you should now stop thinking and leave political endorsements to us on the "ground level"

  • Hi, I'm Garrison Keillor, renowned Global Village Idiot. This whole country - all 57 states with 3 or 4 to go - wants a Marxist community organizer in the white house. Someone who can't answer a simple question with any specificity. Hey, Affirmative Action works!

Now, how 'bout them Powder Milk Biscuits? Are those skits a hoot, or what? I am SOOOO clever.

  • Love the show's music - but there's something false about Garry. He waters down, cans & sells Appalachian music and life for the city masses - for his profit. I hear him in the AM reading poetry to his "we're marching off to Sunday School" piano music - but I never heard him say anything Christian. I was a soldier and now a miner - and I have a BA in English. Sorry Garry, u put yourself out there - big & rich off blue collar life u never lived. Yet, I do love the music so thanks for that.

  • i like listening to garrison k. in the car ..BUT I LOVE INSULTING, OFFENDING, OUTRAGING AND PISSING OFF CARRISON'S PC LIBERAL FANS, AND PRAIRIE LIBERALS IN GENERAL WITH MY HIGHLY OFFENSIVE POSTINGS, yuk yuk yuk, narf narf narf, yuh uh aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

  • him say anything Christian. I was a soldier and now a miner - and I have a BA in English. Sorry Garry, u put yourself out there - big & rich off blue collar life u never lived. Yet, I do love the music.

  • You have a BA in English?

...did you rob a university graduate?

  • Actually, I have a BA in English (SUNY) and a Masters in Arts to Teach English in NY. I also have 20 years as an infantryman and tank platoon sergeant. I play fiddle, celt, and bluegrass guitar and I work in a salt mine - and raised four kids pretty much alone. I also think for myself and I say Keillor's mainstream commercial watering down of blue-collar sweat and blood Appalachian and Celt music is just plain nasty.

  • I only meant that for someone with a BA in English, this was a fairly poor attempt at coherence:

"him say anything Christian. I was a soldier and now a miner - and I have a BA in English. Sorry Garry, u put yourself out there - big & rich off blue collar life u never lived. Yet, I do love the music."

And I don't know what you're on about with the Londonistan comment, there's still a ridiculous amount of racism, hate crime, discrimination, and general badness in the capital.

  • Well, I can write in many voices Catchascatchcan - to address many minds and issues. Londinistan - yes, that is me expressing my sincere dismay at the cultural erasing of Britain by the mass influx of Mulsims & Islam. Call it racism - it doesn't matter - the end result is the irreversible end of British culture and race. I am not too squeamish or weak to turn a blind eye and adopt a lie to feel safely Poliically Correct - that is for weaklings. I don't like offeneding - but I hate a lie more.

  • Read the Daily Mail much?

  • Yeah

  • Oh WOW! You have your Masters? Well you know most people on the "ground level" don't have their Masters. I wish all these big smarty-pants college people would quite giving their opinions, and leave politics to us "ground" people.

  • Hey, "ground" person - yes I have my Masters (SUNY) and I work long hours 6 days a week in a salt mine far under a lake - and was an infantry paratrooper and a tank commander for years. So you have probably zip to tell me about "ground" people - and it isn't my fault you can't do that or tell me a thing about having a Masters. What else have you got for me? hahhahahaha!

  • Keillor reminds me of a few clueless and phony English professors from the university. He's the sort that wears his subject like a cheap Halloween costume while he spews out generic Americana to others who are also largely clueless. OK? His sort are offensive to the actual authors, artists, and true recipients of the literature and music art he profits from. He's a showman - but not an artist.

  • You seem very angry about all this. I don't think Keillor ever really claims to be an artist. He never seems to take himself particularly seriously. His show is a good platform for young talent, he's got a rather soothing voice, and some of the sketches are quite funny. I think you're taking offence to something that just isn't offensive at all. What do you mean by 'his sort'? Are there are a lot of Keillors running about? Personally, I think you should just leave people to enjoy what he does.

  • Garrison Keillor is a good performer, but I would like it if he would keep his politics to himself.

  • You were brave all through this Garrison! I love you heroes that stood out through these dark, dark years! Thanks, thanks, THANKS!

  • Wow, how the hell could anyone hate Garrison Keillor. He's probably one of the most respectful people around. Political discrimination is laaaame.

  • You're an idiot.

  • there are alot of horrible people on youtube... this is disgusting.

  • I support Obama because we need change. Everyone talks about him being black but who ever talks about him being also white. God should have made all people green. People from Hw are multi race and only someone from hw would know that.

  • Take your own advice and DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Every reason you give for not voting for Obama (except that he is pro-choice) is a lie. He is not a Muslim. He is a Christian. He has never refused to say the pledge. These are lies that were created in a mass email to smear Obama to those who would simply read the emails and take them as fact rather than researching the TRUTH. As a Christian, the Truth is what I am all about. It shall set you free my friend.

  • @zacamaquati

Those who believe WANT to believe.

  • This segment brought to you by BE-BOP-A-REE-BOP Rhubarb Pie!

  • I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you, Garrison, but I still love the show.

And yes, Keillor is one of the more eloquent speakers of the English language out there.

  • it's dorma, blowhard.

  • phrasemaker. you represent your faction admirably.

  • Sorry there are no laugh tracks in this one. Garrison is one of the most articulate people out there. I highly recommend his book "Homegrown Democrat." Republicans could learn quite alot from this sensitive and very intelligent person.

  • Why didn't they put in a laugh track on this one? How are his fans supposed to know when to laugh?

  • HONDA!!!!!!!

  • Sheesh, folks. You may have arrived at a different opinion about the race, maybe favor a different candidate, and still grant that Keillor's opinion is thoughtful and reasonable. (Which it is, even if I don't feel the same way he does about Senator Obama.) If everyone who uttered such an opinion was 'telling everyone how to vote' (and therefore being bad), how could we ever discuss politics? But maybe that isn't the point. Maybe some of us just want to put other people down. Is that fun?

  • Hey Garrison,

I love your sense of humor, but this endorsement isn't funny.

Obama is the ultimate price we pay for years of political correctness. Sad for us if we get this empty suit Chicago politician in the White House.(If you want to see the "change"he promises for the country....go to the neighborhood in which he "worked" for so many years. Not good,people...not good....If he can't bring positive change to an all democratic neighborhood, what the heck is he going to do for the country??)

  • BOYS AND GIRLS, when you see your parents committing brown sins against the earth, RAT THEM OUT TO ALGORE OR to your local GREEN GESTAPO OFFICE for free milk and cookies or your school's WAFFEN SS OFFICER for a star on your permanent record, both mccain and bama would like that.

  • a good speaker? some of the greatest dictators were good speakers as well. What's your point, Garrison? I like Garrison and his show but disagree with his politics.

  • Oh Keillor shut the HELL UP. Do you think we are all stupid? I am so sick of media stars thinking they need to tell everyone else how to vote. What arrogance. We get TV in our homes too, you know...

  • I agree that Clinton is a decent senator but I also agree that speaking English isn't the only qualification sought. (By the bye, that was actually a joke for those who didn't quite get it.) I just wish that Obama weren't as opportunistic as HE is when that's what people gripe about with Clinton. Oh, well. We gets whats we deserve, I guess.

  • I like the endorsement, but Keillor's judgment loses some credibility when he says that he thinks Hillary is a fine Senator. She represents the epitome of what makes politicians unworthy of our trust. I think that McCain is a decent candidate, but he has (at least ostensibly) abandoned his free-thinking "Maverick" ways. It's time for some long-distance planning and more transparency in governmental and big business affairs. So all you nay-sayers ought to take another look at Sen. Obama.

  • wow, I used to like Keillor.

  • I love Garrison Keillor, and I'm disappointed that such an eloquent man cannot give me a real reason to support this candidate. Being good with words is not a good reason to elect someone. As a matter of fact, that could very well be a good reason NOT to elect someone!

  • AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't know, I think being able to construct a sentence correctly is a huge step in the right direction over the guy we've had for the 8 years who gives the impression that he can't read or write.

  • I found this endorsement to be mean-spirited and beneath the dignity of a performer whom I greatly admire. "It would be nice to have a president who can actually speak the English language." Comments like this, having no actual root in reality, diminish the credibility of the entire endorsement.

  • when garrison keillor endorsed obama, DYKES ON BYKES SHAVED, SHOWERED AND COMBED THEIR TEETH AND LUMBERED INTO A VICTORIA'S SECRET SALON AND WENT MOONEE OVER LADIES DAINTIES, ESPECIALLY THE FLEUER D'LIS PINK BUSTIERS WITH DUSTY ROSE GARTER BELT AND HOT PINK OPERA HOSE, COMPLIMENTED BY PEAU DE SOIE STILETTO MULES WITH MARIBOU IN LAVENDER. AFTERWARDS, THEY PIROUTE TO A STARBUCKS FOR CHOCOLATE SMOOTHEES WITH CININAMON BON BONIERE'S AND MOCHA SPRINKLES.

  • YOU NPR TYPES GOT NO SENSE OF HUMOR.

  • LOL! Define what an NPR type is! Also just because one person thinks something is funny, doesn't mean that it is. Rememeber Buck Henry? Get Smart, the TV show, was funny. Buck Henry's child molester character wasn't.

Don't get me started on Michael Richards.

Anyway, I support Garrison Keilor. I support Barack Obama.

BTW, where's my checkbook. I think I'll fire off a check to my local NPR affiliate.

    All this from a pro-business, pro-American!

  • ima a inner city west side guy from chicago, i got a mad magazine sense of humor which aint loved on garrison keillors vids posts and prairie home companion vid posts, check out my algore, climate change, global warming posts for a little der fuerher fun with algore.

  • Mad Magazine? Mad Magazine.....oh yeah, now I remember. Do they still print that? Man, I think I moved past Mad back in the 6th grade.

  • who's buck henry, who's michael richards????

  • Stop posting.

  • stop breathing.

  • Good one!

  • You are an idiot.

  • go pop your zits snot nose and quit wetting your bed, try using soap and water when you bathe, your neighbors are complaining about you stenching up the neighborhood, if you take my advice you might even get a guy for sex partner.

  • You are autistic.

  • when obama wins I'm going to rub it in all of your noses.

  • if and when BAMA wins, i hope he rolls his tide of socialist avenging angels all over WALL STREET, THE WEALTH CLASS AND CORPORATE AMERICA, I am a populist who hates the establishment PERIOD, RIGHT AND LEFT. my comments were not directed at BAMA, but my own UNPC HUMOR which are always outrageous and offensive as can be!

  • minnesota women use arm and hammer baking soda as deodorant.....

  • minnesota women shave their ears.

  • A few points to make. Obama's experience in the senate and in the Illinois state legislature should not be taken lightly. He was a bold voice for change even before his party took control of congress. That counts for something. Secondly, his sole rival for the nomination only has one term on him, and in that one term she has consistently buckled under the pressure of the current administration when it came to actual votes. Obama may not have taken the test, but Clinton has failed it.

  • As for McCain, I won't deny that he has more experience than either of the democratic candidates. But all the experience in the world won't matter if he's mistaken about what the country must do. And I believe that he is. We can't afford to ride along with him until he discovers that he's on the wrong track.

  • I urge you to read up on presidential history. You will see many former presidents with limited "experience" before stepping into office. Namely the last great president from Illinois, Mr. Abraham Lincoln.

  • RU PAUL FOR PRESIDENT!

  • I love the Prairie Home Companion shows - the stories always paint a picture and make me smile. Garrison, please do not ever write a story for Prairie Home as empty as your endorsement for Obama. Is it possible though that Obama has given you no substance with which to write your endorsement?

  • Gary Keel-haul has been known to dry up oases in every desert on the Planet each and every Saturday night on PBS.

  • what a soothing voice lol

  • What was nasty and racist about him? Better yet, where was the lie?

I mean it's not unlike McCain and the avice of Hagee.

  • Sensible! You are brilliant, BooBoo.

  • hotty for president.

  • Only presidents have presidential staffs.

Nor did Obama defend any racist statements made by anyone. Look closer. Don't be so easily manipulated. Think for yourself. You'll be better for it.

  • The amazing humor in your comment resides in the fact that no candidate IS a muslim. REALLY funny! Thank you.

  • Perfect. I'm an Englishman and Londoner, but the magnificent Obama somehow evokes Keillor for me,which is why I searched with both their names, and feel such joy to find this eloquent endorsement. Yes,indeed,we can.

  • London? You mean Londinistan - there is no more England or London for that matter - the politically correct gave it away - forever. Sad but true.

  • He's the man

  • Garrison Keillor is witty, insightful and intelligent. Long may be entertain us.

  • Keillor as librarian sounds about right.
