  • I must have missed something, is this rig available somewhere?

  • @KeelerMediaGroup Yep... Blender 2.60a...

    Goto... Add>Armature>MetaRigg

  • @KeelerMediaGroup aaa also you have to enable Riggify...

Goto... File> User Preferences > Addons > Rigging > check the box for Riggify...

  • those complicated graphs looked like some i've seen trying to piece together what happened on 9/11 and who was really behind it.

  • Awesome! Awesome! did I mention AWESOME?

    That said, help.

When I use the tool it does not work the same. When I hit generate on a bone it creates a new set of bones with the controller and a root... what am i missing?

  • @Talmore "I don’t know how to add the human & Meta rig menu. I only can open single bone menu in armature." In recent versions of Blender 2.5 the meta rig is available as part of the “Rigify” addon that you can enable from the Add-Ons section of the User Preferences. Thank Jonathan Williamson for helping us with that on Dave Wards tutorial

  • Attacually being a guy who likes to Rigg my own stuff...

I coun't this all as good stuff.... simply because it helps me to see how guys are doing their Riggs in Blender and I can study what there doing and apply it to my own designs... This is great stuff!

  • kick ass! i keep my rig retard simple, had to use a stretch-to set up to get a more natural spine/neck twist that ran upwards, as separate bones in 2.49 but couldn't twist upper/lower bodies separate! so yay for sintel rig.

  • i dont understand why when i generate the rig the ik and the fk rig of the hands dont mach even nearly! and when i change the proportions of the rig it dont manages it and the generated rig dont mathch the new proportions! can u help me?

  • Amazing! Incredible stuff really, this is sooooo much appreciated thanks a lot!

  • Id say blender is very good for the common user, if hes willing to learn. I got it 3 months ago with no prior knowledge(im a 10th grader) and ive learned everything about 3d animation. Now the onlything i have to do now is practice. I would easily pay $100+ for Blender.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL and i was so looking forward to learn more about 3ds max all because it had its rig character ... i'll stick with blender now :)

  • when will this feature be added?

can't wait until then :D my ik rigs are horrible

  • the learning curve here is unbelievably high

but it's the only free program with any real hope of competing with maya and max, both of which are disgustingly expensive.

  • It can take a long time but blender is a great 3D program to use

  • I think so, I know of this one person who took 8 years to make a 3d short, but he did more than alot of people do in 8 years

  • was it the bunny movie? with the squirrels?

  • The durian project is a short film and yes it is taking a few months. but it's not just about making a film. the whole point of these blender projects are to put blender to work in a production environment so they can make it better... there are so many sweet new features that were implemented just in the last few months.

  • if that is your aim then I applaud your effort on the durian project

Otherwise I say blender is nowhere near ready for the common user

  • @ConsisBarghest how isnt it ready? :/

  • @aninjainatree When you listen to this video, you will hear him say "bug fixes". What that means is he is doing the program bug fixes himself with the help of his team.

  • @ConsisBarghest Thats because they are using 2.5. It's still in the alpha stages. The official stable release (2.49) is plenty stable for any user. Even 2.5 is stable enough for me! :) I haven't come over any major bugs yet (except for the compositor nodes being annoying)

  • @aninjainatree two words for you: LEARNING CURVE

  • @ConsisBarghest sorry I can't make the connection between this comment and your previous one and it's answer. As I understand it, you said it's not ready for common users because of there being bugs. And aninjainatree replied it was because this is v 2.5

Apart from that, part of the purpose of 2.5 and it getting a mayor re-haul of the entire interface, was to make it more accessible for new users or those switching over from other tools. Therefore the learning curve should loose some steepness.

  • Actually, Blender is just about the most productive 3D animation app ever. The speed of use is just amazing once you get deeply enough into it. I'm sure there are others that are comparable (XSI perhaps), but 3DS Max is certainly a lot slower. It certainly has been "ready" for many years, it just keeps getting better. However, one of its basic design decisions is that it's for professional use - final productivity has been more important than ease of learning, and this is not going to change.

  • @ConsisBarghest The learning curve for any full featured DCC package is incredibly high though. I couldn't tell myself, since I didn't start out with blender, but if you had no prior knowledge I don't know that picking up blender is much worse than picking up Maya, XSI or 3ds Max, certainly not with the UI changes for Blender 2.5. Big difference is the amount of learning material available, and that's gotten a LOT better for Blender recently.

  • @hht2ul Don't take my word for it. Ask around, talk to people, and then have a hands-on look for yourself of the three programs you just mentioned. For the moment at least, the prevailing accepted understanding is this: 1)Blender can in fact do everything its counterparts can yet it's user-friendliness is the absolute worst. 2)Maya is the most user-friendly. 3)Max is still required and admittedly utilized by professionals even after using Maya either out of habit or some other reason.

  • @ConsisBarghest i have worked with all of them.

And I've heard that kind of thing a lot from people who started out using Max, Maya, SoftImage, etc.

I've used all of those you mentioned, but I'm mainly a C4D user.

And I still think that's the most intuitive and easy to pick up DCC app ever.

Because that's the thing I started out with, where I learned all the concepts.

Coming from C4D I found Blender, Maya, Max,and XSI about the same to pick up, personally. It's just different interfaces.

  • @hht2ul Important point though, that is blender POST 2.34 or whatever, when they added menu entries for all the tools.

Before that, forget about it. Was no way I was going to be committing that huge ass cheat sheet with all the shortcut keys to memory.

  • Quite cool - this like a REALLY nice tool.

That last graph- holy cow. I felt like my head exploded. :D

  • Dude......... Dude.....

.... This is why I love the Blender Community so much! This.... The sheer amount of time learning and assembling rigs will soon disappear... Somewhat. I mean, this won't fully replace rigging, but the sheer amount of customization and types of rigs will allow people (like me) who were too afraid of learning proper rigging to be able to fully animate characters! I can't wait for 2.5 (Although I need a new computer for it) and good luck on Project Durian!

  • cool

  • I have nothing agenst this... but ur makin animating 2 simple.. i mean i had to lern rigging like 1 month...

Btw: U guys rule.. i hove i wont forget to donate..

  • Fantastic :)

  • thank you ideasman42!
