@123DROCK I am sorry for my long posts but I would also like to add that the first seqience of the song is on greek ( a religious hymn) and it is sang every easter at midnight during the Easter Saturday "Christos Anesti ek nekron" (Christ has been raisedfrom the dead) :D cheers!
@123DROCK they were indeed calling themselves romans but....in Greek. The language of the people of the Eastern Empire was Greek, something that forced the Emperor Justinian ( a native Latin speaker) to start legislating in Greek with his novelae/νεαραί laws. Gradually, the language of the administration of the Empire became Greek as well with the reforms of the Emperor Heraclios almost two centuries later... (he even changed his title from Imperator to Vasileus (Κing in greek)
@Atreas40000 No, only in modern Greek, and that's irrelevant. Autokrator goes with Imperator; neither means emperor, but signifies emperor's status as ruler. The Emperors of Eastern Roman Empire were called Basileus for Emperor and Autokrator as a title signifying the emperor's status.
@Atreas40000 So what?.... really? So what?..... How is that relevant?! How is this whole bullshit discussion relevant, it has NOTHING to do with the mod. Really, Shut up about it!
@WastedViking yeah? really? so what? so what? oh? yeah? really? I mean the name of the mod of a HISTORY based strategy and the armies represented there have NOTHING to do with the actual HISTORIC FACTS? Go crawl back to your hole fuckhead.
@Atreas40000 U mad? you must be... This is made by a fan, someone that dosn't have to be a HISTORIAN. You know? I don't raelly think he cares about the name, because they BOTH refer to the SAME faction... Take a break, Have a Kit Kat kk ?

@123DROCK The alternative term that the modern scientist wanted to use instead of "Byzantine" was "GrecoRoman" because the Byzantine civilization combined elements from the Greek and Roman cultures more strongly than the western part of the Empire. Don't forget that Greek culture was predominant in the East since the time of Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic period. The use of the term Greco-Roman was abandoned because of its extensive use in Art Philology and Sports.
@123DROCK Actually that Empire was named "Byzantine" during the 18th 19th century by historians who wanted to differintiate it by the the western Roman Empire. The Romans did not "flee" from Rome to Constantinople. The city was built over the Greek Byzantion by Constantine the Great while Rome was still independent, in order to found a capital for the part of the Empire that he was rulling. (the empire was divided at the time)
@123DROCK Probably because of the city, Byzantium (Istanbul/Constantinople) has always been standing out amongst all the other land owned by them so in due time the name changed into Byzantines as in, people of Byzantium.
@ImperialGuard9001 correction : they were calling themselves Romans but in greek (ρωμαίοι or romaioi) since greek was the prevailing language there, but the western world was calling them Greeks and their Empire, Greek Empire.
@Atreas40000 Actualy they called them Romans and Greeks but for example most of other peoples that dealing with them called them Romans such as Muslim for example. But what matters the most is their own people and Byzantines called themselfs Romans so they are Romans
byzantines = GREEK ROMANS

@Atreas40000 Basileus doesn't simply mean "King". It means Sovereign. It can be a Greek equilevant to the word King, but it also means Emperor.
vonVince 10 months ago
@vonVince Βασιλεύς means King, Ηγέτης means Sovereign, Αυτοκράτωρ mean Emperor
Atreas40000 10 months ago
@Atreas40000 Autokrator does not mean emperor. It is same in Greek as in Latin for imperator.
vonVince 10 months ago
@vonVince I'm Greek. Αυτοκράτωρ means Εmperor. Deal with it.

@Atreas40000 not to mention before the Romans conquered the east that they were already speaking Greek for centuries due to Alexander the great.
