  • can anyone tell me what is this

is this an engine starting up???

why is this all exhaust getting out

  • That happens whenever a new engine is fired up for the first time.

  • It's a GE90 on a Delta 777-200 and as fiddleman said happens on first fire ups due to all the preservation oils in the engine.

  • oil !! that what happens when the first started the engines

  • the oil from the engines when that started for the first time ever

  • Yeah these GE-90's are starting up for the first time,

General Electric put a very light coat of protective oil over the insides to protect it and soon as heat is produced by main stage (think it is the secondary) then the oils just end up in heap of smoke!

  • @mghaz Fresh engines are coated in a protective layer of oil. When the engines are fired up the first time some of it gets burned away and is part of the breaking in process.

    i think :)
