     so..

  • As a lesbian, I owe so much of my freedom to Del and Phyllis. God bless Del in her journey onward and Phyllis on the rest of her journey here.

    In gratitude,

    Kate

  • I just read about Del. I was shocked.

  • Del died today in San Francisco after a long period of declining health. She was 87.

  • She had a long and wonderful life. I feel bad for Phyllis. Thanks for letting us know about the death of this great lady.

  • All San Franciscans, in fact all Americans, owe these two women an enormous amount. Their tenacity and courage in the face of extreme opposition is their legacy as well as The Lyon-Martin clinic as a lifesaving, safe, healthcare and mental health refuge for those in need.

  • DIVINATION

" Being Catholic and gay is like being black and thinking you're part of the KKK. Catholicism is like a monarchy. Forget Jesus. Your true king is the Pope and he wants you in hell. He won't even let Jesus off the cross let alone gays."

Those are your words. Talk about hate eh? Seems to me you are doing exactly what you rail on and on about. Irony? Also, are you black and if so did the KKK give you a hard time 30 years ago?

  • congrats, i dont know them, but congrats on all of that...i am a proud lesbian!

  • I always suspected you were a lesbo.

  • you taught me pop

  • It was about time dude. 56 years and whos to say gays don't love.

  • A happy story more than not, but who knows what to think of marriage after all the stories I've heard.

Maybe I'd do it for citizenship outside this country. I think we gays should have equal rights to skip town.

    Yeah. That's what I think. :)

  • What a beautiful story!

  • I saw that news story. It was so touching, how marvelous it must have been for them :)

  • Congrats! You ladies had to wait far too long, but I'm glad you made it. My cousin Steven is smiling down on you from heaven. (He lived in California, too, but he didn't see the day).

  • Hey enough with the anti-Church stuff ok? I am a proud Catholic and so are plenty of my Gay Catholic buddies. To each his own and anybody can go to Church if they want. It's not as if it's a quest. Just you and the Lord when it comes down to it. You think Jesus is going to send you to Hell? I don't.

  • Father OCTOROID, not one word was mentioned, implied nor in inferred about religion or religious denomination in this Vlog.

I know enough about Phil to say he does not believe Jesus is going to send him to hell.

Your reply tells me a lot about you and nothing about the contents of the Vlog nor Phil.

  • My reply tells you a lot about me? Well then please do explain what you think you know of me.

Also, I thought being gay was supposed to be about being gay. Nobody cares if gay people get married just like nobody cares about the 300 shows on BRAVO. It also seems to me that Ellen DeGeneres is doing very fine on her own. I could name a thousand other people who are gay and happy. So go get married, see if anybody cares.

  • Damn, I thought the comments I just posted before might seem party pooper-ish. lol

Being Catholic and gay is like being black and thinking you're part of the KKK. Catholicism is like a monarchy. Forget Jesus. Your true king is the Pope and he wants you in hell. He won't even let Jesus off the cross let alone gays.

  • I didn't mention the church in this video. However, I often do. I am anti-church, which is my freedom and I don't intend to alter my views or keep them quiet to please you. If you don't like it, don't watch.

  • That makes me want to cry. How happy for them, and sad that they were forced to wait so long.

  • Hear hear!

  • Makes me proud to be a Californian. Now the next battle is to make sure the voter initiative to ban same-sex marriages goes down in defeat.

  • Thanks Jason. It's always good to see you here.

  • One step at a time.

  • Good stuff my friend, very good stuff.

  • Amen! Thanks for covering this monumental moment.

  • It is always a pleasure to spread good news.

  • When I first heard of their story I thought it was just so touching.

  • It moved me too.

  • I have never been prouder to live in this city. Beautifully said, Phil. And behind Del and Phyllis are a host of other couples who've been together for decades and are just now beginning to taste equal rights and recognition. I am grateful to be alive to see this moment.

  • I am so proud of San Francisco too. Some activists criticised the Mayor for doing this in 2004, but I think his actions hastened this day. You guys are a beacon to the rest of us.

  • I got a little choked up towards the end of this one... RIGHT ON!

  • I did too.

  • I got a little choked up the first time I said it (but I forgot to turn the camera on).

  • Sounds like it's about damn time! There's some pretty tough resistance mostly from conservative Christians, but I think eventually gays will have the same rights as anyone else in all of America. :)

  • I personally have no desire to marry, but those who do should be able to. I have a desire for full equality. That's why this matters to me. Also I have known about these two for a long time and I hold them in high esteem.

  • Good for them. They will still have to wait behind me if I get to the movie theater before them.

  • I would let them go ahead of me.

  • I hope marriage works out better for same sex couples than it has for straight people. Congrats and may your passions run deep...

  • Actually, on average it does work out better. Same sex couples are less likely to divorce than opposite sex couples. :P

  • I think that may be because there is no pressure to marry. Often straight couples feel that they are required to get married and start a family. Or accidental pregnancy. It has hard for a gay couple to accidentally conceive :)

  • I hope so too.

  • Thanl you Phil. Del and Phyllis are icons for the LGBT community and this change in the law is so commendable. I am so happy this is happening and hopefully this time it will stick.

  • I think it will stick in California. My hopes are up.

  • Nice seeing you again, Phil. Thanks for the heartwarming story.

..and Congratulations to the happy couple!!

  • It's nice to be back.

  • yay Phil

  • yay Del and Phyllis

  • There ya' go. Congratulations, Del and Phyllis. :)

  • Thanks for commenting.

  • I am happy that Del and Phyllis have enjoyed 56 years of love together that is more than many people could ever wish for. The marrige is just the iceing on the cake. :)

  • I hope they make it to 75.

  • Amen.

  • Thanks, Huey.

  • I wouldn't mind marryin my man, after being together for 29 years. It would be nice if we could get our rights some time before we both drop dead.

  • I hope for the best. 29 years! That's great.

  • Thanks! :)))

  • strangeparty, what state of the union do you live in?

    Happy 29!!! Confetti!!!

  • New York, bastion of "New York Times reading" (read: Jewish) "latte-drinking" (read: gay) "far left" (read: forward thinking) liberals. You'd think we'd have gay marriage by now!

Thanks for the confetti. You are definitely invited to the wedding. :)

  • It definitely is about damn time!

  • Damn right!

  • If you're going to respond to my video, you should respond to *my* video. You posted this same comment amongst your spamming spree on ItalianStallionette's video. They silence it by removing innocuous videos just because the subject matter is gay. Apparently you just spammed the other video; you didn't actually watch it.

  • While this is indeed great news on the front of equal human rights for all, it must be remembered that this is only in California and will surely be challenged all the way to the SCOTUS by powerful religious bigots who are many, as well as wealthy. It remains in my mind, an absolutely ludicrous injustice that here in the 21st century, the ignorant and bigoted religious mindset still overrides constitutional principles and guarantees of liberty for all as are set out for the nation as a whole.

  • You are absolutely right. This is a momentary pause to celebrate. The fight will continue for some time.

  • thanks Phil for this (as always) informative video.I had remembered watching something in a docu. a while ago on the first lesbian publication but didn't realize that these two women were still alive let alone married yesterday.

  • I know. You would have thought god would have struck them dead years ago to hear some people.

  • Why are we (society) so frightened to-the-core about gay marriage? Is it simply a matter of bad people trying to force their biblical judgments on others?

In my observations, people rarely mean what they say and often attempt to disguise what they mean for mostly obvious reasons.

Are we (society) attempting to disguise a collective fear while hiding behind sanctioned government intervention in the daily, private lives of individual citizens?

  • I think you are definitely on to something. It has to be deeper than religious belief or people would get just as upset over eating shellfish or pork or crop rotation. US society is completely fucked up on the subject of sex in general. Homosex just complicates it.

  • THANK U IT IS ABOUT TIME!

  • Cheers!

  • Thank you for this.... this is something that I never have known about.

It is awesome to see you again.

Haven't seen you for almost 3 weeks and I was hoping that everything was fine and Okay.

Hope that you are fine and your sleeping is going great.

You know.... I miss you when you are not uploading every 7 days or so.

I guess that I am selfish, but I miss you.

    Freitas

  • I'm fine and sleeping well. I will explain my hiatus in an upcoming vid.

  • I watched the media clips of their marriage on TV! Here in San Francisco and surrounding cities this wedding was big news, and I felt so privileged to be able to see part of it. It's about time is so right on.

  • I get a little verklempt every time I see them.

  • I think this is FABULOUS!!!!!

  • That's the word for it.

  • I'm not gay,but that is f.... good news!

    Freedom & equality to all!

    Thanks for being active Phil!

    Respect!

  • Thank you sir.

  • "sir"?...right :)

  • This is now the second time I've cried over that story. Thank you, Phil. :-)

  • Superman? Cry? Are you sure you're not gay?

  • Oops. Forgot. "REAL" straight men don't have emotions. ;-)

  • "it's about time"

truer words have never been spoken

  • I am so happy for them, that they lived long enough to see this happen.

  • About time indeed.

  • A bit of light in the darkness.

  • Marriage today is a joke, regardless of orientation; but I'm glad to see a couple honor their vows and continue to fight for love. It's rare and precious. Glad to see US morality move forward.

  • I read that Del and Phyllis did it because they were encouraged by others for the symbolic value. They said it didn't really make any difference in their lives. Their love has endured (and they still live in the same house they moved into in 1955). Sometimes I think the state should get out of the marriage business altogether, but if they are going to have it, it should be equal for everyone.

  • Indeed it should sir, indeed it should.

  • agreed, you know even if they did ban gay marriage its not going to stop gay people from being together, you know?

  • You're right about that. Fifty six years of love and commitment are stronger than laws anyway. It's just nice that they could celebrate this milestone.

  • The nation moves forward. On we go.

  • California moves forward. Most of the nation has constitutional amendments that forbid it. Slowly we go.

  • New York Gov. David Paterson has stipulated that state law requires recognition of legal marriages performed elsewhere, including same-sex unions.

Phil, many states usually honor other states marriages even though their state would not sanction it for various reasons such as age or blood tests.

Granted, many states have statutes or constitutional amendments specifying that marriage is between a man and a woman, and denying recognition to same-sex unions.

  • This will eventually be played out in the United States Supreme Court. Let's hope the Justices will uphold the constitution and fully understand the division of church and state.

  • Make that Separation of Church and State according to our former president and founding father Thomas Jefferson's interpretation of the First Amendment.

  • We need some personnel changes to accomplish that, I believe.

  • Patterson did a good thing, but it only affects state law and according to the Times, it makes NY the only state that recognizes gay marriage other than the ones who perform them. Thirty-nine states prohibit marriage with laws similar to the federal Defense of Marriage Act. If they voted similarly on a federal constitutional amendment, it would be enough to pass. I applaud the progress that has been made, but it is still an uphill battle.

  • There is a palpable change happening in this country and I'm not just talking about gay marriage. Don't you feel it?

BTW, don't believe everything you read in The Times. Let's watch and see what happens.

  • They say legalizing gay marriage would help the economy, and we all know we're the economy's heading. I'm a bit suspicious of this sudden change of heart by a state with a Republican as its governor.

Not complaining so much, just a bit suspicious.

Seems there hasn't been much social change in the last 7 years. Not for the better.

  • This is utterly fantastic news.

    About time, indeed!!!

  • Love you, Curt.

  • true that!

  • yoohoo!

  • Well said as usual Phil...congrats to Del and Phyliss, and all the other gay couples. Change may be slow...but it's happening.

  • I'm glad they are still alive for it.

  • wow 56 years..... About time for us to move on with all the gay hate. I mean what's the different between a KKK member and one of those person holding a sign say GOd hate FAGS. I really wanna go down there and kick them.

  • I'll cheer you on, Java.

  • Great video, Phil...I heard about this from Kelley and Rey. :)

  • I loved Kelley's video.

  • Hear hear!

  • Good to hear you.

  • :) I'm going through the arduous task of job training at the moment. I've had little time to check up on my YT people. Hope you're doing well, FB! Bye.

  • Booyeah I love it human rights wins now get rid of the biggots

  • If you haven't already, check out Nutcheese's video of the bigots, who were quite entertaining if you forget how evil they are.

  • Awesome story! Congrats to them!

  • It warms my heart.

  • I was wondering where Master Phil was hiding out. Yes this is good news. Let the Right Wing lunatics try and make it a campaign issue. I don't care, and it seems neither does the majority of the electorate, just do the right thing. California, home of my birth, makes me proud for leading the nation, once again.

  • I'm still here. Cheers to California. Even Arnold went along with this one.

  • Some good news for a change.

  • We have to savor it now; more battles are coming.

  • Congrats to them!!

  • Flinging dust is flinging rice.

  • HURRAH!!! This is so awesome :)

wheels are turning, I'm so excited for the future!!!

    xo

  • I love you, you sexy piece of shit.

  • AMEN!

  • Hallelujah!

  • I saw that story on the news. GREAT vid.

    1,000 stars for you.

  • Thank you. What will I do with so many stars?

  • Beautiful!

    Congrats to them!

  • Thanks Diana. Love you.

  • Congrats to the happy couple.

  • They are great people.

  • Thank you Del and Phyllis! Congratulations!!!!!!!!

  • They have been heroes of mine for a couple of decades.

  • so informative... thank you and Congrats to the NEWLYWEDS !!!!.... It is about time... It's time for EVERYONE EVERYWHERE !!!....

    Jeerlins

  • Everyone everywhere. Agreed.

  • yes it is!

  • Little by little we move forward (with an occasional step back).

  • thanks for posting this! you're awesome! you are a contribution to society!

  • Thanks for your kind words.

  • congrats to them and you are right its about bloody time. hopefully more states will follow and more countries after that. not allowing marriage for two people who are in love is stupid no matter their sexuality.

  • I couldn't agree more Dave. What is the status in Australia?

  • unfortunately the same as everywhere else. same sax marriage is not legal.

  • Yeah, it's about time i finish watching this video, Arthur couldn't his mouth while the process! lol

We are accomplishing a lot lately, i feel so happy about all this changes even though Portugal is getting behind more and more! It's hard too know there's a lot of people waiting for that for so many time, i feel lucky!

  • Portugal is an old country and I understand very Catholic. But Spain surprised me. As a country they are ahead of the US on this subject.

  • My glass is raised.

I look forward to the day that the only thing we are congratulating here is not the fact they can be legally, but the length of time they have been in love.

  • The length of the relationship is the most important thing. The marriage was a symbolic formality.

  • This is beautiful Phil! Thank you so much for making it.

BIG CYBER HUG for you my dear.

    5 stars and favorited.

    XX, Gay

  • You inspired me, Gay.

  • "It's about time", I could not have said it better!

  • To use a clumsy metaphor, it is a seed that has sprouted. I'll be glad when the whole country blooms.

  • About time indeed! Course now that they're married, the sex will be non-existent. *hides*

    Congratulations To Del and Phyllis!

  • The sex may be over, but you only have to look at pictures and video from yesterday to know that the love and affection endure after almost six decades.

  • Mazel Tov

  • Indeed!

  • I had heard of this on NPR! Congratulations indeed. And lets hope CA does not go backwards now.

  • I think California is safely settled, but the rest of the country will take a long time.

  • wow,i think i have heard of phyllis!

if people are that comitted to be with eachother, they deserve some Legal recognition of that! :D

you look great! nice and healthy, and multitasking i hear :D have agreat day Phil!!

  • I feel pretty good, but I have been multitasking.

  • Oh that's great. It's finally come to pass that the gay community is treated with dignity and respect. Awesome

  • Hi Joy! Well, a measure of dignity and respect, under California law, still not recognized in almost all of the other states. It will take time. I will probably be as old as Del before it spreads to all 50.

  • lol, don't be so sure my friend
