  • Haven't we always known how brilliant this man is?

  • Take it easy guys, there was a guy named Zappa who was producing records when Pat was still in diapers. He did some amazing things with a synclavier you should be familiar with by now if your as hip as AmericanDiaz

  • are you fucking kidding me thus is the most amazing thing I have ever seen

  • Wow...midi

  • Forever alone made a band!

  • Pat Metheny is without a doubt the musician with the highest level of knowledge and talent of our time. He is the greatest of this era. If the great master Yoda where a human and played the guitar, he would have an afro kind-of hair style :D

  • This is the first time I've seen this and what he did on this project. I have always believed Pat Metheny is a genius who writes the most beautiful music. BUT...I still love the songs and music he wrote and played with PAT METHENY GROUP and Pedro Aznar, Nando Lauria, Steve, Lyle and all the brilliant musicians he played with. Nothing like a bunch of talented men getting together to play with their hearts and passion into it. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS PAT.

  • For the interested, you can see many Orchestrians at the House On The Rock in Wisconsin. They truly are amazing. Makes me wonder if Pat has visited it.

  • If you look at these days, you can state that everything has been done and played with and about the guitar.

This attempt sounds like Pat Metheny's will to put the gap between him and the rest of all modern guitar players, saying: "I'm a top guitar player, but I'm also a complete musician, a mind devoted to the music, a genius".

Metheny can be all he wants: a real bebopper, a traditional jazz musician, a rocker, fusion, acoustic music...

    Unique.

  • @alexianblue Prople thought the same thing until EVH came along and revolutionized everything. Someone will come along and do it again, someone whose approach is totally different and slightly skewed that will make people say "why didn't I think of that?"

  • Wow! Pat is amazing! He is really showing his genius. I've to get this album!

  • i hear billy joe from green day has been giving pat lessons for the past year. this is why his chops are at their best now.

  • @bitcheznhos

    can't stop laughing...love sarcasm!

  • @bacanito I also hear that pat has been practicing smells like teen spirit from nirvana to help his ear training.

  • this guy is like the musical version of edward scissorhand`s father :O

  • dude what the heck man?!!! Pat Metheny is a genius.

  • It's concerning that during these times of economic difficultly Pat is laying off musicians:-) Just kidding, he's a genius and one of my favorite guitarists.

  • He's on a whole other level most guys, even the other greats will never reach. Saw him in person on the Austin City Limits taping and it was like he was from another world.

  • Harry Potter of the guitar. That's magic, guys

  • lol, what an egomaniacal asshole.

dude is good though, I like his trio stuff better.

  • fake

  • @rekingooo good one

  • The way jazz makes me feel takes me back to my childhood. It makes me think of Christmas time...(when I get to spend it with my family). Pat is just so amazing.

  • Pat RULES! Still pushing the envelope after all these years! Beautiful!

  • es el mejor aver quien es capaz de meter el video con la traduccion!!!!

  • Great! Great! Great!!

  • what is the song he's playing at the very beginning?

  • @unwashedmime orchestrion.

  • this man must be LOADED...how much did it cost? any idea?

  • I want one

  • What is it with guitarists and their crazy hair? All of them...they all have wacked out hair. haha

  • @jessfancher LOL Pat Metheny hasn't changed his hair in the last 30 years! He looks exactly the same, just a bit older, as he did when I saw him in concert back in 1980 in my student days.

  • im 16 i love jazz like lenny breau and tal farlow but i hate this electric robot shit

  • @AgentZeroForTheWin This is a vision that was first introduced in the late 70"s but could not be done because of the lack of technology...Pat Metheny has a full orchestra and band, this is something he wanted to try once...It is not electric robot s**t, he's fullfilling a vision that once was deemed impossible...Do your research o this man before you pass judgement young one...

  • @AgentZeroForTheWin cool that you know who lenny and tal are, but try being a bit more open minded

  • the most expensive one man band ever created

  • he controls other instruments thru a midi pickup? seems like hes brought a guitar synth to life. i dont hear any wind or brass instruments. I'll bet hes gonna find a way to get a sax in there somehow.

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful work !

  • someone should make an orchestrion application for mac. I'm sure it's possible and less expensive =) Pat is amazing by the way!

  • 5 suckers dont like this

  • jesus this music is bad.

  • i love this mo fo since th first time i heard the first song by him have u heard and them through with jaco til seret story to all th albums but this is AMAZIN!!!!!!!!!AND M A GIRL I WISH TO C HIM LIVE ONCE IN MY LIFE!! GOD BLESS U AND YR T SHIRT WITH STRIPES!!!!

  • He's got it all. Magnificent playing, composing, concepts, nice guy,[ tons of hair], musical originality. Most jazzers are a bit out of the run of things; he's an icon. My favourite soloist on any instrument [tho' I'm a guitarist, I'm not biased]. His signature Ibanez guitars are excellent too.

  • what is it for a picking technic?

  • @BeatBay Yes can someone explain technically why does he use the pickup in that way ?

  • @mayorc Sorry I meant the pick not the pickup ! :)

  • @mayorc yes, i read a story in a jazz mag about it. And it was "an accident". :) In his town the only have this some sort of picks and he never learned to hold it the "right way" (ok, there is no right way) and he wanted to change his style at berklee but it was "too late". So he just played the way he played :) Also, there is no special technic :)

  • @BeatBay Great infos, thanks :)

  • @mayorc no problem! :)

  • where's his T-shirts with stripes ?? LOL

  • Now he doesn't have to pay his band members anymore, LOL!

  • Pat Metheny is so far ahead and so far behind his time. What a genius.

  • this guy needs to take lessons from CC DeVille, of POISON! ROCK ON!!!

  • @johanivanovic Pat Metheny does not need lessons from any other guitarist.. he's a master of his own

  • @bryan757 FAIL. way to go having no sarcasm detector.

  • such an amazing musician.

  • im not impressed

  • @InVINCEab13 HOLY SHIT, InCINVEab13 ISN'T IMPRESSED. SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE

  • @InVINCEab13 Why?

  • @InVINCEab13 wow, tell me, who do you listen to? this is by far the most impressive thing pat metheny has ever done. and metheny has accomplished a lot in music.

  • of all the metheny-tours the last 18 years I only missed the orchestrion concert 1 month ago in Cologne and I am still so angry that I missed it. Once again Pat showed with this project, that he is not only the best technical guitar player living, bus also the most creative musician i know (and this is not limited to jazz-music!). Hope he shares with us many more creative years!

  • @majoe68 hey I just went to see that concert at the strathmore in bethesda maryland IT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!

  • Amazing idea. He's my favourite musician of all time, but still managed to surprise me...

  • been out 3 times to hear Pat, Secret Story was great. such a distinct player.

  • Man has no boundaries!!!

  • Man has no boundaries!!!

  • INCREIBLE...MUY BUEN ALBUM

  • Just saw Pat perform last night in Denver....awesome...amazing....

  • Saw it in Vancouver Saturday. I am still floored, words are so inadequate to describe the show and Pats genius.

  • Finally, I saw him in person, last Saturday in Berkeley, CA. It was wonderful, but definitely, I would have loved to hear him play my favorite of his, "Are You Going My Way?"

  • @Elin48 "Are You Going My Way?" lol

  • @eysikal Pat Metheny - I love what he's done with his music, he's evolving it. He could have stayed content as so many musicians do, with what had already become a successful career, but instead he's moved on. He's a brave musician, most likely a genius.

  • @Elin48 Yes, I agree. I was merely poking a little fun at your mistake in the title of your favorite song of his. "Are You Going with Me" is the correct title.

  • @eysikal ...lol, I see, I must have been very tired when I wrote it. That happens sometimes. I guess I was confusing Pat Metheny with Frank Sinatra.

  • Really amazing...like the old steam fair music attractions we had in UK, takes me back to childhood. A visual treat as well as aural. Now, here's an idea how would this concept sit with Buckethead ???

Pat / Buckethead / Roborchestra .. the mind boggles...

    Peace x

  • I saw the gig last night, and HOLY COW, that was EASILY the most fascinating, musical and entertaining gig I've ever seen or expect to see.

  • Pat's maturity and growth as an artist never ceases to amaze: Thanks PM for sharing your gift.

  • I am a visual artist - but As the timate music consumer-Pat Matheney's sound is practically magical! It is poetic and memorable. Thanks -Tsvetana

  • As a musician in my headphones for about 30 years. Whenever I want to turn someone on to good guitar playing I always"entertain" them with Vai, Satriani and alike. If they're still following i move to Gambale like stuff which is where I am in my playing. Then if they're still hanging on I drop Metheny on them. I've lost MANY before this point. Maybe i need bigger circles, or maybe people that listen to metheny aren't big circle types.

  • Que le pasa a este negro... cada vez es más raro jaja... groso!!!

  • I went to this concert at UNC last week. UNREAL! PHENOMENOL!!!! I've been a fan of Pat's for over 20 yrs....but to see him live, for the first time, and on this particular tour will be unforgettable. I really hope a Blu Ray DVD of this tour is released.

  • Hoy lo vi en vivo en Miami ,y estuvo grosisimo, muy bueno !!!

imprecionante la maquinaria musical q se mando

    Aguante Pat !!!

  • I'm a huge fan of Larry Carlton and Robben Ford and related bluesy players, but Pat Metheny just keeps blowing me away. He is truly a musical genius who just happens to be playing the guitar.

  • @martinstender Yes, in contrast Allan Holdsworth is also a musical genius but who also not just happens to play the guitar but is the greatest jazz guitarist.

But musically I also prefer Metheny.

  • This is amazing.

  • yo i want to know the 2 people that dont like it ...............you guys can go to hell

  • This is another reason why he is the absolute best.

  • @sry110

The Orchestrion is is genius, but it seems a waste of its potential to makr it sound like a smooth Jazz band. No doubt Metheny is a good guitar player, but it would be cool to hear the Orchestrion manned by somebody with a more intense imagination and creative vision.... something more cinematic and dynamic that tells a story and takes you on a sonic journey.

  • @availablelight1

What are you talking about? Pat has an intense imagination and creative vision... He does tell a story, wtf are you talking about...

  • @availablelight1 .....are you kidding? Pat is pioneering something. Who else has gone to this extreme and could even pull something like this off?

  • @sry110

Another reason: Pat is the only guy Chuck Norris will not mess with.

  • this guy is space age...

    this is magical,beautiful!

  • Hey everybody! is it me or is pat holding his pick sideways in the very beginning of the video?

  • @InHomeGuitarLessons thats how he holds it. he talks a couple times in past interviews that when he was younger in his town they only had huge picks at the one music store they had. so growing up playing he learned to play like that also he plays it that way cause it mimicked the sound of wes montgomery's thumb on the strings.

  • Wow Revolution...

    I Liket!!!

  • Thank you Pat for all. For your music that you play with love. Thank you for the straordinary work.

  • his hair is a bird. your argument is invalid.

  • PAT you are not human and this will give you immortality!! Thank you for all your work.

  • Это просто класс,талантище...

  • This is revolutionary!

    I just discovered, this... gosh

  • my question is how all the rythmic patterns were created? is it the same simultaneous response as with the piano?? amazing!!!!

  • Really beautiful

  • tonight in dortmund. yeah!

  • tomorrow in Warsaw, im in.

  • @LyleMays;Let cool yourself down!! cool down!!!

  • I saw the Orchestrion live last week in Bordeaux, France.

It was a great show, for the ears and the eyes as well.

  • Ive seen him yesterday in Valladolid (Spain) and he was excellent, i couldn't ever imagine something like that, its impossible to describe it, you jsuthave to see it.

  • @tehvirisken Did he play any of his older songs with the new equipment? Please tell me !!! Im going to see him in May, i can't wait - thank you

  • I saw him recently live in concert Tivoli, Copenhagen, performing the entire new album which was great. He also talked about the project in a humorous way. Among other tunes performed were "Make Piece", "The Sound of Water" (piccasso guitar) (love the sound he get's on that guitar (as well as the synth guitar), "Antonia", ended with "Stranger In Town" and "Sueno con Mexico", in all a great great concert from a great man/musician.

  • Ah - now I know what the last tune was supposed to be. In London we didn't get to hear it because the orchestrion gave out. We got unaccompanied Phase Dance instead. And Sueno went wrong as well. Poor Pat.

  • @fendweller What happened to the Orchestrion during the show? What failed? Broke? What did it sound like then? What did Pat do? Very interested!

  • He started the last tune with a riff that was doubled by the bass. He said 'something's not right', fiddled and tried again. Someone yelled 'turn it off and back on again,' but same result. So he played Phase Dance acapella. Then he started Sueno on the acoustic, creating a loop to play over, but this also cut out, so he did the tune just on the Ibanez.Pat remained gracious throughout but was clearly crestfallen. It later emerged (see Yahoo grp) it was his fault - user error.

  • The title track, Orchestrion is my all time favorite Pat Metheny Composition EVER! To think that this is 100% Metheny makes me so happy. He's mind blowing! I learned how to play that melody on the bells cuz I can't stop listening to this tune!

  • I'm a dedicated Pat Metheny fan and I love every record he has produced! Still I found it hard to think of this project as a great musical experience, but now, after I've heard this I have changed my mind completely! This is amazing! Can't wait until he's coming to Norway the 6. of February!

  • @KristianVangen This music is Magical! Orchestrion is right up there with with some all time Metheny favs. Facing West and Have You Heard are 2 of my favs!

  • Yeah I know! The more I listen, the better it gets. The concert was, as you said: "Magical"! Have You Heard, Understanding and Homecoming are my favorites! Any favorite on Orchestrion? :)

  • @KristianVangen I love the entire Orchestrion CD, but the title track, Orchestrion is my all time favorite!

  • My Orchestrion CD arrived yesterday, and I've listened to it, but I think I'm going to reserve my opinion until I see him perform this live at the Walt Disney Concert hall.

Spirit of the Air is the tune I really want to hear live. I'm certain I won't be disappointed.

  • Holy god.....unbelievable.

Is all instruments controlled in MIDI?

He don't need player except him!

  • @taku221 AND it's all 100% Metheny compositions! And he plays everything in one way or another. Pat is on another level of operation. Just look at the guys drive, energy level. He's the Lance Armstrong of music.

  • WOW ! I Don't belive it ! Pat lives in the futur... that's my explenation.

  • I am a great PM fan but I am not sure he convinced me. I would have tosee this stuff live.
