1. The RIFLE (a gun is an artillery piece you tool) would have a SUSAT (standing for sight unit small arms trilux) instead of an iron sight fitted, if they were para.

2. There should be a BFA on the end of the muzzle, standing for blank firing attachment.

SUSAT has 4 times magnification, and you don't have to line it up perfectly, because after basics, and Pre Deployment Training, your skills and drills are good enough for the weapon to sit just right in your shoulder, and it becomes natural. And it is known as a rifle, hence why troopers are known as rifles or guns on patrol. And my 6 months on the frontline can tell you that.
