i have an earlier post on here...re the 45 given to me in the late 60's.... I find it interesting that a search on here or google...reveals no single interview with Mason ??... i would greatly appreciate anyone who could direct me to such an interview..thx....P.S....i found the vinyl 45...my god..unbelievable...all i need now is a turntable ....
i was given a 45 of this way back in the late 60's by a friend..who was learning violin .. remebering the music of that era, i remember saying to him ..What the hell is this ?..anyway, i played it on my old turntable ..and was blown away.... thx to youtube i can now watch Mason do this song over many performances..just Greatttt....
" cheers" - yeah i have workd on a few show with Doc (hardrockvideo , Sonicvideo) he's my father, he works with Mason often and i have had the pleasure to have a drink with the guy- Mason is a blessed man ,i love his stuff -Pyker
I first saw Mason on the Smothers Brothers show...then I saw Glen Campbell play this on his show, and he tore it up. Unbelievable piece...stands the test of time.
I have listened to this song my entire life. I still love it. It is classic and even though the others around him in this clip may not be as talented had to have been thrilled just to have had the chance to play with such a legend.
Been trying to master this piece for 37 years now; didn't know these videos existed. Every time he plays the part I want to see, the cameras show the friggin VIOLINISTS!! Sweet chocolate MOSES!!
The very least some of these so called muscians could have done on this piece was take their prozac on time . And kept up to speed with your man !!!!!!!!LOL shame they ruined it hey ?
LOL :) Just realized, Mr Williams is practically sitting on the drummers knee. Naturally, his mics will be swamped by the snare drum. Poor stage layout but still a brilliant piece of guitar work.
:) It wasn't dust bin lids, it's hammering coming from the car repair shop next door. By the way, I think they gave the flute player the wrong sheet music!
Amazing, already 40 years in the air ... Potts6919: Yeah the drums, I don't know, I find it pretty good, although perhaps a bit too dominating. I am trying to play the guitar section and it gives me a lot of pleasure.
He's a guitargod, no doubt. Insane. Must be the most melodious piece of work I've ever heard. No wonder so many people make covers of it. You can only invent the wheel once.

@globalgirl13 Try a thrift store, most logical start, then maybe estate sales.
Good luck.

I found this by accident, Craig! Great job!
I got to play this on drums with him in Eugene and Portland many years ago when we opened for the Smothers Brothers.
Is that my old partner in crime, Michael Hatgis, on bass?

The drumming doesnt sound good. It needs that original 68' feel. They should have gotten Mitch Mitchell or somebody.

IN all versions I've heard Mason Williams playing, it's amazing how much the drums contribute to the overall feel.
Every rock guitar player's no. 1 'classical' piece.
Stevieboy130664 4 years ago
I absolutely agree with you about the drums. Back in the 60's they knew how to drum. Nowadays ... sighh ;-(

Just to make sure I am clear on it: this performance has excellent drum!
