I play football in England and trained every day. One year after a really hard and physical pre season I felt as fit as possible but in my first game I tore my ACL in my left knee. I heard popping and clicking and so did the spectators nearest me. The pain was excruciating an knew it was something bad. Initially doctors at the hospital told me it would get better but I kept persisting to look at it properly (MRI scan!) eventually 3weeks later I had the scan which showed the tear to the ACL and
There are different grades of tears. If it's a Grade 1 or 2, surgery is not required; most docs will just recommend that you stay off it as much as possible, take anti-inflammatory meds (Advil, Aleve, etc.) and ice it throughout the day. A Grade 3 usually requires surgical repair. I had a Grade 2 and was cleared to begin rehab & strengthening my knee after about 6 weeks...
do you really need knee surgery cuz i im not sure what happen to my knee my acl tore but the doc wasnt sure, all i know is it hurts sometimes when i play sport and it sometimes goes out of place when i heavy lifting and fast movement, the doc told me not to worry it will heal in time but sometimes i get mad at my self that i cant play sports sometimes with my friends and i cant be doing to much rapid movements i just wana know can it heal on its own and be back to normal?
Oh, and if this was an ACL tear, what are the long term effects of it? My knee has been a major problem for years now, and I really just want to try to get it fixed.
about 3 years ago, I was playing soccer and I suddenly turned, and I heard and felt a pop in my knee. My knee had and still has a huge lump at the bottom of the knee cap. It hurt REALLY bad, but I kept going because it was a tournament and I needed to play. My parents took me to a physical therapist, but he said to just take advil and ice it, and that my injury didnt require physical therapy. I've been switching between sports, so I have had some off years. Do you think this was ACL injury??
I was playing basketball and all of a sudden, my knee hurt. Their wasn't a "pop", it just started to hurt evertime I shot or jumped. It wasn't severe enough for me to stop, I continued playing for about an hour. It doesn't hurt when I walk or run, it only hurts when squat, jump, or kneel down. I hope its something simple because I just enlisted in the USMC and am currently waiting to go to bootcamp, and I'm scared if it is severe, I would be deemed unfit for military. Let me know what you thx.
I had ACL surgery (using a hamstring graft) 14 days ago. I am getting a noticable increased ROM each few days and am now able to move with 1 crutch. My only concern at this stage is; What could be causing the pain and stiffness just below the knee cap and the tenderness/tightness/firmness of the skin and constant pain (which is getting a little less every few days or so)? Is all this pain 'normal' given what information I have described. Can you please help? Laurie
Thanks heaps for the information. My daughter has just torn her ACL and clear information is really calming to us. The different procedures were explained well.
