True! In my country if you want visa for the US you have to:

- call embassy on premium-rate line just to get an appointment

- wait for hours (literally!) just to see some low-rank moronic bureaucrat

- pay them quite large lump of money just so they look at your papers (no refund if you get rejected)

- then you get... not visa - only "promise"

- after you travel to US you meet another bureaucrat in the airport who may send you back home (on your cost) just because he doesn't like your face

I don't see how i'd be able to go to another country if I currently have work commitments. Something about not being guaranteed that i'd return, despite paying for enrollment into the next semester of uni.

When you receive a fax, it prints the fax number of the machine that sent it into the header or footer of the page. They wanted that to verify that the documents weren't forged. A half-retarded forger could replicate that, though.
