This just makes me think of all the songs by black musicians in the 50s that were covered by white musicians in order to capitalize on their popularity. Go look up The Crew Cuts, and you'll see that, much like Beyoncé here, they just didn't quite get it.

Rather than singing "Crazy" in a way that makes sense for the song and its meaning, she sings it like a pop star. Basically, she's using the song for its popularity rather than for any artistic merit it may have.
