  • Interesting how the Master's regeneration is very similar to the Doctor's. The both go from dour, serious, (somewhat or very) dark characters and regenerate into cooky, affable, and funny ones.

  • oh okay so when the master regenerates in the TARDIS nothing happens except a flash of light

but when the doctor does it the TARDIS almost explodes

    the bull crap man

  • His outfit reminds me vaguely of Sweeney Todd

  • the master was always my fave :)

  • i love how you hear the drum beat after he regenerates

  • @Mysticalwind72 I completely disagree with you. Let the 10th doctor's history be done, it's time for new things. Tennant's Doctor was serious, the Master was crazy, now Smith's doctor is crazy, I think his doctor should be serious.

  • The Doctor = Defeated by a deadbolt.

  • At least we're grateful that if John Simm is called back to play The Master again, he will seriously consider it (dunno how he's gonna escape the Time Lock). Ditto with John Barrowman, since he could have shown up in A Good Man Goes to War (Miracle Day barred him from coming though).

  • Loved the Master being mentioned in Time Crash.

Five: "Does he still have that rubbish beard?"

Ten: "No, no beard this time. Well, a wife."

    Five: "...oh."

  • From the moment I saw this scene, I was like, "I love this character." All of the immaturity and enthusiasm of the Doctor, none of the morals! xD

  • were the drums only a john simms Master thing, or did the Master always hear them?

  • @spidermanforever1

The drums were never mentioned in the series before John Simms. However, the Master claims he's heard them all his life, so we have to assume that the earlier versions of the Master heard them but never talked about them.

  • @zvermilyer3

Not necessarily. I think of it as The Master's personal time stream having been altered in End of Time.

  • @DWTWBLOGSPOT Thanks for putting up the video. I would have never been able to make my video without it. :) Check out my page to see.

  • This is why Tenant is the best, he captures my emotions, the look on his when the Master rengenerates and the way he speaks keeps me emersed but Matt kinda frustates me with the semi withdrawn attitude. Maybe its just me but thats how I feel.

  • @BatmanEvans

They have a lot of simularatys sure the master isnt a clown but he has the same level of obsession with the doctor as the joker does with batman.

  • Oh dear god, tom hanks is NOT the doctor nor will he ever be.

  • Comment removed

  • @btl2014

Funny you mention that. He was going to be cast as Doctor #8 for the TV movie. He said no because he knew having an American Doctor was a horrible idea.

  • @PaperRayman Thank god xD I can't imagine the doctor with an american accent, and I'M American xD

  • anybody else think that they somehow should get Johnny depp to play the doctor or the master?

  • @brightblueable dr who=british not american

  • @FrankLotti1

Exactly. Remember what happened when they got an American to play the Master? It wasn't pretty.

  • @FrankLotti1 yeah i know but it would still be cool though! :)

  • @brightblueable in that case, why not tom hanks?

  • @FrankLotti1 there are loads of actors who could be in doctor who, I was only naming one.

  • its fab they chose john simm coz he is so snappy fast funny and awfully cheeky and it works for a bad time lord

  • Holy shiz. Was the masters regeneration fukeeng nuts compared to the Dr's? His was crazy colorful. John Simms kinda looks like psychopath

  • 1:12 That guy in the front looks a bit like matt smith

  • lol it must be fun to play the master

  • John Simms was actually asked to play the doctor instead of David Tennant, but he declined.

  • @IronMarz52 I imagine he thought that this was more fun, and i can't contradict him

  • @IronMarz52 OMG

  • @ProudToBeNerdy Nice Reference :D

  • "Time for a biscuit, a brandy, and a bitch about the industry.

Who the FUCK is John Simm?"

  • John Simm was SO much better than that mustache twirling, cape wearing, tie-a-girl-to-a-train-track master from the 70's - 80's.

  • continueing my last comment. Think about it. Delgado was the 13th but I count him as the first master because thats who we see. He aged into the second master. Stole anouther body for the third master did the same again for the forth and was 'resurected' by timelords for the fith. Simm/master no.six is the only one we've seen to come from a regenaration

  • I think The Master should have a partner named The Bater.

  • Simm is my favarate master. He's so funny. The master needed to move with the times. With the show. With so many cold villians like daleks we needed a diffrent kind of enemy thats what Simm's master is.

I don't understand the arguments that he doesn't behave like the old masters. If that were a real argument than why don't you all moan at the 10 versions of the doctor after the 1st as he changed personality too

  • @firmuspiett THANK YOU! By god people, if he was exactly the same as he was in the old series and totally unchanged after a regeneration i don't think it would have worked: He isn't ALWAYS going to have a beard, his personality is going to change..because he's a TIME-LORD.

When a time-lord regenerates, they change not just physically but also in personality: Hell, look back at the first doctor and take a look at...any doctor after that! Are they the same? NO! So stop whining.

  • @infernai and THANK YOU. I loved Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley. I did. But mustache twidderling villian practicly crys 'BOO ME' is just not going to hit the majority of the audeince. It may please lots of old who fans but I'm sorry it just won't make the moden cut.

I've worked something out. We never saw a huge change in master's personality before this and I think I know why. HE NEVER REGENIRATED. So his personality wouldn't change.

  • I did not care for John Simm was written. It was more like they wanted to make the Doctor an equal foe, so they decided to make him as goofy and energenic, which the master simply shouldn't be. The Master never gave out Candies and acted stupid during the fourth Doctors era, so why the tenths? And for that "insanity" everyone sais he brought to the role, well, I think Anthony Anieley actually brout it that. Just watch the scene in Castrovalva where he is trying to open the ZeroRoombox. Amazing.

  • "The Master... Re-born... into this gay little randome jumpy thing that wont shut up and has absolutely no resembelence to the Master and seems more like a David Tennant-wannabe."

  • @OttselSpy24 Not all the Doctors are the same and neither are all the Masters. Physically and mentally.

  • @Simpuramafampark but in the same way Colin Baker is considerd haing being written wrong, I'm just saying that Mr. Simm was written worse.

  • how many times can a timelord regenerate.I herd about 13 and some can do it as much as they want.

  • @aabbccddd009 13 times, but the High Council of Time Lords can grant a Time Lord another life cycle (another 13 regenerations)

  • Say my name, bitch?

  • i want to like this a million times, just for the last bit. ♥

  • would be great to think that jacobi's master is antonly ainleys masters, turned human e aged

  • @MyAdam91 I think he was trying to play an Older version of him

  • @CMPunkLiddell4LifeO9 Yup he made the best out of the little screentime he got.

  • hello younger master!! :D

  • I got John simm's autograph!!!!!!!

  • @KoolMovies1001: HOW!?! D:

  • @KoolMovies1001 Oh MY GOD I envy you sooo much... did you meet him? how was it LIKE? *drools*

  • @tribble608 my parents saw him at a play in london and got his autograph for me

  • @KoolMovies1001 wow...

  • @KoolMovies1001 I am so jealous

  • John Simms is a great Master, he brought the psychopath element to him. He did to the Master what Heath Ledger did to the Joker.

  • @auro1001 oh you're so right.

  • @auro1001 The moment I saw Simm bouncing around the console room I wondered where he was in 1996 when we were forced to watch a hammy American B-movie actor in the role who wouldn't have understood the role if a manual fell out of the sky and onto his lap!

  • @auro1001. I liked Simm but Delgado will be my favorite. Would've liked to see Hugo Weaving as the Master too.

  • @auro1001 john was first

  • @auro1001

.Ledger toned down the Joker, from an over-the-top maniacal clown, into a more serious psychopath.Simm did the same thing in reverse with The Master. Making him more insane.

    So guess you're right,in a way.

  • i love how the master laughs like dr Betuger in doom 3!!!

  • @CMPunkLiddell4LifeO9

I thought the same thing at the time. "Oh no this guy is good now he's gone".

    Thankfully Simm was awesome.

  • Ooh, new voice Hellooooo HELooo! xD

  • As many times as the Master has died you know he is coming back. More than any other character in Doctor Who history other than Rose I so wish they would bring back the Master playing against Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor. What would really be great would be if John Simm played the part. Now being Tennant is gone they will probably find another actor to play the Master to go up against the 11th Doctor but I just think Simm and Smith onscreen together as nemesis would be spectacular.

  • @mysticalwind72 I'm not sure wheter I want him to return. On the one hand, I absolutely LOVE the Master, and 11's personality would work better in a frenemyship situation that 10's did. (nothing against 10 or the brilliant DT playing him) on the other hand, they finally gave the Master the sendoff that was always intended for his character (Heroic sacrifice), and I don't want that to be ruined/invalidated.

  • John Simm looks like Thom Yorke

  • If they decide to go back to the classic Master, they should get Sean Connery to play him

  • @Bladerunner93 1. Connery is in his 80s. 2. Connery is no longer acting.

  • ! THE MASTER FOREVER !

  • AINLEY FOREVER

  • wow, the doctor who crowd is REALY diferent from others lol.

much more...civil. i don't see people arguing over wich master was the best i just see people saying wich one they liked and stuff like that.

I'm a new fan to dr. who.

tennant was the first doctor i ever saw and simms was the first master i saw.

im working on watching the whole thing from as early as i can. but so far i can only find stuff from as far back as the 9th doctor.

  • @MrCheckersmcgee There are some old serials on Youtube you just need to search for them, even the BBC has uploaded some

  • @MrCheckersmcgee All the actors who have played the Master were great in their own ways even Eric Roberts Master was not bad but I do think Simm....Delgado...Ainley are just three stand out classic wonderful villains.

  • @MrCheckersmcgee There's a person on Dailymotion that has all of the classic Doctor Who episodes from the 1st Doctor to the 8th Doctor called tardismedia.

  • I preferred it when The Master was like this, not all skeleton-firing-lasers-always-hungry-and-blonde, like he was in The End of Time.

  • @PS3Worshipper Oh I dunno, I rather liked him in The End of Time. Plus he saved the Doctor's life :) but he is pretty fantastic like this.

  • Derek Jacobi = AMAZING ACTOR.

  • Why does the Master have waaaaay cooler regenerations than the Doctor?

  • @PS3Worshipper Because he(the Master) could control his regeneration better then the doctor who was always random with it. Romana could also control her appearance when she regenerated in Destiny of the Daleks.

  • @hamanu666 Maybe because Romana graduated from the academy with full marks on her first go while the Doctor only scraped through with 51% on his second attempt. He is very touchy on that subject though.

  • honestly, I would have LOOOOOVED to see John Simms as the new doctor instead of being the new Master.

  • To be honest, I prefer Jacobi.

  • End of the universe, Have fun BYE BYE!

  • "use my name."

    "Master."

    ohhh that's hot!! haha

  • @lilsister2 Master gets excited when The Doctor says his name lol

    I like it ;)

  • @lilsister2 - Oh, you dirty little master.

  • 2:09 - 2:12 = HOTT! lol i'm such a fangirl

  • The master is going to walk out of that pandoricle next week or the following week...

  • I liked Derek Jacobi as the Master but John Simm is twenty times better.

  • i am the master reborn

  • I agree they should bring in a new Master for Matt's Doctor. But Simm and Tennant were great together.

  • @Kryptonian250 I'd like to see John Simm continue for at least another episode before regenerating.

  • brilliant episode

  • OK, I know it's just me, but John Simm looks kind of like a younger Derek Jacobi :)))

  • @librag no he totally does!

  • wait...

Martha said I know that voice.

Oh if she knows that voice she must watch life on mars.

    Lol

  • OMG I know that voice!

ya thats the guy from life on mars!

  • Simm= FAVE MASTER EVER!!

He and David just bring a whole new dynamic to the relationship between the Doctor and the Master... damn they are good. I wonder, if they get a new Master for Matt's Doctor... will it be possible to one up the Tennant/Simm epic awesomeness? I dunno seems pretty unlikely... :P

  • Roger Caesar Marius Bernard de Delgado Torres Castillo Roberto

    01/03/1918 - 18/06/1973

    R.I.P.

  • I wish Derek could have played the role for at least one full episode, I adored John Simm as well though.

  • Brilliant, Faviroute moment from New Who.

The fact The Master is still alive shows how great he is at cheating unavoidable death. All the time.

  • Tom Felton for the Master's next Regeneration.

  • @Kryptonian250 He's a little young right now, but I could definately see him playing the Master in the future.

  • I really liked Derek Jacobi's portrayal and wish he had been able to play the role longer. The way he speaks when he's ticked off reminds me so much of the master from the classic series, just the same master with an older face and a shave. :)

John Simm was very good in the role too, but I didn't see much of the classic master in him until the end of time when he's trying to bargain and make deals at the end. Then he reminded me of the master from the five doctors.

  • I agree.

  • I'll bet that Bruce from Doctor Who the enemy within is Professor Yana in the future.

  • I like the masters regeneration because its all rainbow and the doctors is just gold

  • This john simm versian of the master must be the masters 3rd regeneration because when the time lord resurected him im guessing he gets his full cycle back.

  • that could be correct. tho, his DNA could have been rewritten through the chameleon watch. and the reason he used the watch was to hide from the time lords, and in the End of Time, the doctor could smell the master. so i believe he did get his full cycle back

  • Some regenrations are better than others in the Matt Smith trailer it looks like he spends is first episode running all the time.

  • Why does the Master adapt so easily to his newly regenerated form? During Tennant's first special, he spent half of it unconscious and expelling energy.

  • @flamingopuree Because the Doctor absorbed the energy from the Time Vortex, and was expelling it throughout the episode, rather than just getting rid of it all when he regenerated.

  • when tennant first regenerated he had a space of time in which he got the tardis back to rose's estate, then he rested etc. I expect the master did the same, he did go far enough back in time to get married and build up a political party, i'm sure he squeezed a nap in somewhere :D

  • In that case, I think the doctor put it down to him absorbing most of the time vortex which caused him to regenerate in the first place. It was that which caused all those ill after effects. But still, nothing a good cup of tea couldn't solve!

  • Right after a regeneration The Doctor is full of Energy, it's only after a while that the fatigue starts to kick in.

  • @flamingopuree; also, the Doctor had a brief moment of action before collapsing, as seen in the "Children in need" special... The Master could have done the same and spent time recovering on Earth. :D

  • @flamingopuree there are lots of different kinds of Regenerations. The one where the 7th turns into the 8th is particularly overwhelming to him.

  • or, as it says from many sources, some timelords handle regeneration better than others (see the beginning of "destiny of the daleks", see what i mean).

  • @flamingopuree Oh, that's because the Regeneration from 9 into 10 went somewhat wrong... The Doctor is simply not too lucky with the whole regeneration business, (see, for example, the Debuts of Doctor 5, 6 and 8) I guess it varies from Time Lord to time Lord. I think we can take the Master's reaction as the average one - and the Doctor even traveled once with a young Time Lady who seemed particularily gifted at it. She could even decide what she's look like

  • christmas special THE MASTER WILL RETURN

  • i wonder if the masters powers as the keeper of traken still exist.

  • "Oooh new voice...hello-HELLO!"

  • when i first saw the master regenerate i missed the scene were Chanto shot him so i belived he regenerated willingly by using some Time Lord trick

  • Does the Master control his regeneration then?? That sentence " if the Doctor can be young and strong...so can I..." makes me think he controls them.

  • The doctor usually regenerates into someone young, plus the Master is older, so middle-aged seems young as well.

  • Time Lords always get a younger body with each new regeneration. Some appear to have a better control over their regeneration.

The Doctor has little to no control.

  • @theO2guy Nah, the Doctor usually ends up looking a little younger, too, and he's pretty bad at controlling his regenerations - He always ends up complaining about his appearence afterwards XD But then again, the Doctor once traveled with a young Time Lady (Romana was her name - look up her episodes, she was awesome) who could pretty much choose what she'd look like and it was once hinted that most time lords have at least a moderate ability to control how they'll turn out....

  • GREAT DEREK!!!

  • "ignorance is a bliss" he's mad wouldn't you be?

  • would any1 agree that he's breaking the 4th wall wen he says the master..reborn

  • No, not really, he's just a little mental. Kinda like Deadpool but without the 4th wall breaking.

  • No. He's only talking to himself. Most mad villains tend to do that.

  • "Ooo.. New voice!"

  • best doctor who regeneration ever

  • More time than they had doing the RG from 9th Doctor to 10th Doctor.

  • Maybe it is more painful to regenerate from being old to being young or it could be the pain of all his memories coming back to him.

  • hahah new voice hello HELLO anyway ...

  • what exactly caused the master to regenerate? was it through force of will?

  • The Master got shot by Chanto.

  • And he perhaps accelerated the process by choosing to be younger :)

  • The Master got shot by Chanto

  • OMG how sexy is it when the Doctor calls him by his name.

  • Absolutely XD

  • @narbularity

I think the Master agrees with you XD

(I also think he has a not-so-subtle Doctor saying his name fetish...)

  • good vid

  • I think that Derek Jacobi was the last of the "classic" Masters. He just had those characteristics. Whereas John Simms is definately a new brand of The Master.

  • The character still acted very much the same though, didn't he?

  • @OTimeMasterXO

Last of the "good" Masters more like!

  • I think that there's some elements of Eric Robert's camp master in John Simm's potrayal, to a degree. Although in "End of Time" he seems a bit more like the Peter Pratt/Geoffrey Beevers "corpse" Master, with a touch of the more primal version of the Master that Ainley played in "Survival".

  • Also to add to that the Master's skeletal "X-ray" appearence is very close to the Pratt master, with the bulgy eyes and the skull, plus the hood he wears when approaching the burger stand.

  • @OTimeMasterXO

I haven't seen a lot of the classic Masters, since I was introudced to Who from Eccelston and on. But I kind of agree.

Then again, you can't deny that Simms has definitely made the role fit! =D

  • i agree with davijoBoy, john simm is brilliant as the master!! life on mars was just as brilliant!

  • Derek Jacobi was so much better than John Simm

  • agreed - Jacobi made this episode what it was.

  • you're an idiot, John Simm is a legend !! Life on Mars FTW !!

  • can you not spot a thesp when you see one..?

    make room for Master Jacobi.

John Simm was awsome in Life on mars, that doesn't make him a good master.

  • Say! this is awesome! In Australia we're like 10 or so episodes behind this. :) We haven't even got Jack back yet. BUT NOT TO WORRY! And also this is great now The Doctor and his Timelord "BUDDY" Are similar in age! Teehee. But David's so much sexier. WOAH. :]]

  • In America, we haven't even gotten to the 2006 Xmas special.

I look forward to seeing the Master. Derek Jacobi absolutely looks the part.

  • On Scifi, Doctor Who episodes wasn't that far behind their original airings. Now BBC America, we won't discuss how slow that is. lol

  • Nonono! You stopped it right before the wibble! Noooo! *cries*

  • john simm is a sexy beast....i sure hope his son dosent see this comment.....*shudders*

  • You spelt Simm with three m's

  • That was hot...
