@lilgoalieman Why? Axl admitted that his idea of moving forward was to create totally new material. He even said at the beginning he believed he had a band capable of making anything. But what song actually included dancers, horns or anything like that? Worse still, ALL of their 'best' songs were written as the original 5 including November Rain, Civil War, Patience, You Could be Mine.

But the absolute worst thing of all was making a Greatest Hits compilation with half the songs being covers.

If Steven stayed, There would be no "Use your illusions" , They would play stuff that sounds like it would be on "Appetite" , Thats what I meant, Well, they would still have a few "Illlusions" songs that they wrote with Izzy. I think that Matt changed Gn'R and went further with them than where steven would take them.

@lilgoalieman November Rain was in the making years before Steven was fired. Slash tells you in his book it was about 18 minutes long so was nowhere near ready for recording. There's also several online documentaries and interviews with Axl in 1988 and 1989 about how the new albums had to be in a different direction.

Chinese Democracy was supposed to hark back to the Appetite genre, but...it isn't is it.

@Ruicris22 don't sweat it too much. I saw GnR on the tour where they co-headlined with Metallica and GnR blew it big time. 45 minutes late, lousy sound, lots of self-indulgent nonsense... bleh. I could go on and on. I should've left after Metallica. From what I heard after from talking to folks who'd seen other shows, my experience was not unusual. I wasn't surprised to see the band implode after that tour.
