I find it works better if you curl your hair like she shows, but when you take it off the iron, slide the hair off the iron and hold it in your hand like that until it's cooled down, it holds the curl better and it's very bouncy!

The first curl looked kind of weird :p I saw a video where Taylor Swift herself said she opens the barrel of a one inch curling iron, wraps it around the inner barrel and then clamps it. I found this technique works amazingly well, and much better than other techniques I've seen. The heat gets all over the strand of hair so you get good hold, even without hair spray.
