@galvai yep.... a magica das trocas de nomes no brasil tipo opel astra com gm vectra gt....... entre outros........ mas PRA MIM eh Quantum anos 86+ ;)
this is pretty good for the 80s. The chassis remains pretty well intact. Add airbags and wear a seatbelt and this car is probably safer than most of its contemporaries.
Um that is not true!!! I crashed my Passat 1.6diesel 1982 hatch back in a road sign with 60 km\h without wearing a seat belt and the only thing twat happend is i changed my fender...
@vwolop except...all the crash energy is deposited INTO the driver, not around, like in modern cars. You'd have too many internal injuries and bleed out in your shitty passat.
@Mieden hmm not necessarily, you're being quite bias it seems haha. yes, you could have many injurys, but it is survivable, and when you compare this to other crash tests of the time, it performed very well. there is not much intrusion into the cabin, the only real risk is the steering wheel and seatbelt .... and is you live life following by safety, i tell you now, you will have many regrets.
@vwolop nterestingly enough, Im a VW head like you. My bias is only because these cars were so shitty... I currently own one of the cleanest MK2 GLI 16Vs in my region and can also attest to not wanting to wreck that on account of it folding-up like a piece of aluminum foil! Back-on-topic... These vehicles featured no advanced crumple-zones, airbags or belt-tensioners/force-limiters. While the driver would sustain minimal injuries from the first two impacts... continued
@vwolop continued...impacts (the car impacting the object, the body impacting the seatbelt), the third impact (the internal organs impacting each other) would be significant enough to rupture organs. The secret to crash survival is to slow this third impact down the most. This is done now with belt-tensioners and force limiters that literally "give" so the occupant can decelerate at as slow a rate as possible. Not to mention the hot-ass engine that would be sitting in his lap though...

Actually, this "Passat" is a Santana Quantum. And another note, 1985 "Passat" > 2012 BRASiLiAN CAR, this is the reality, wake up people.

Wear a seat belt and you'll be fine. Shame about the car though.
HFLanciaStratos 2 weeks ago
Wold have helped if the seat belt was used. He (it) just flew forward into the steering column with nothing holding him back.

What is the point in this test? If you hit a tree without putting your seat belt on you will look a cunt. Thanks, I will make a fucking note of that.

the steering wheel barely even moves! good old vw's, you could survive this easily, if you had a belt on..
