  • They could re-make all their songs and they would no doubt be twice as great, oranges and apples!

  • I It's like my 5329085 time listening to this!!!

  • Ahh Thats better.

  • Any of the extra instruments that people think they're hearing are a side effect of using a slide with high distortion. As you're playing and going a little crazy, your slide touches strings that you don't mean it to and it sets them off in the background. Kind of like white noise.... White noise that's saturated with sexy..... Jack "White Noise"...hmm was that too much?

  • @CopperCasque depends on your sexual leanings!

  • I'm pretty sure this could definitely be the live version, I don't think there's a bassist in the background, even during the distorted bits, Jack's just using his Big Muff distortion pedal, a MUST for anyone who wants to sound like this.

  • Turns out George Carlin was wrong, for once...

  • woooooo

    WS you nailed it

  • Perfect.

  • He's sooo badass at covering songs and making them his own

  • Jack White is a guitar god. Meg is cool too.

  • Jack White is a guitar god.

  • woodconnie20, this is on the 1st disc of the b-side collection

  • Nicely done, daddymouse, with the review. I think there's a future in reviewing music for you. Jack totally goes apeshit in this tune. ..haha

  • i love this song, both in its original robert johnson format, and the white stripes take on it. the whole song is great, but from 3:08 - 4:17 .... epic fucking rock and roll guitar god just going apeshit. when the ancients first built their early, primitive versions of a guitar, this is the sound they were hoping would some day be achieved. then when he slows it down like it's going to end with the typical blues outro, 4:50 he eargasmically steals your soul ... and you love it

  • I actually prefer this version to the one they did on the s/t. Even though it is pretty much a straight cover of the original.

  • i'm serious. i need this. where can i get it? it has to be available somewhere.

  • @woodconnie20 use youtube to mp3 converter software found on cnet.com.

  • where can i purchase this??

  • AWESOME! Thanks for posting!

  • The blues, mutherfuckers. I will blast this through my speakers in my car.

  • better than original version

  • @iamredjohn Yeah no shit. Youtube has seriously improved what I thought to be a decent collection of tunes. Its only gettin better.

  • yes.

  • WHOA!!!!- like always:)

  • I love the drumming here. Probably the simplest drumming ever, but it just works perfectly.

  • I will miss The White Stripes. But someday, they will do a reunion tour. They will. They must.

  • @JamesBeam420 they shall

  • This is an eargasm if I've ever had one. :)

  • i watch this video every week. and now they broke up :[

  • certainly busts my little brains out every time I hear Jack start to kick it

  • does anyone know were to find this song to download?? The only place ive ever heard it was here on youtube

  • @timtomin umm..... Jack doesn't use ANY fender equipment at all

  • @plumbercorey uh dude what are you talking about? He uses a Fender Twin Reverb amp along with his two silvertones. I'm pretty sure that's called using Fender equipment.

  • It pretty much comes down to bad ampage, he's got talent but it never shows up when its time. I wish he actually PLAYED.

  • @timtomin Bad ampage? People kill for that sound. It's so broken up. If you played acoustic with him, just sittin down, you totally think differently. You'd say something like, "Holy shit. He's good."

  • @timtomin For any douche that thinks Jack cant play his ass off, search for "Raconteurs Blue Veins (Holland)" and then shut your mouth

  • @timtomin Jack sounds amazing? you sir are dumb

  • @timtomin you are a bad person

  • @timtomin I dont really know what you mean, dont know that much about guitar playing.....

But i personally really like his version of death letter @ blackpool.. He shows some nice skills there.

  • @hansTowns I agree with the performance of death letter @ blackpool

My favorite stripes songs are always the blues. They are also my favorite to play.

I once played death letter for 30 minutes straight

  • Play this to anyone that hates on the White Stripes, they will change their mind

  • for some reason i love it when Jack White mentions his own name in his songs

  • great version

  • Can you imagine the first time Eric Clapton heard this? Smile.

  • you struggle along in your life and then you find something that makes you feel as good as a little kid getting a big beautiful lollipop - thanks Jack and Meg - its a nice present to get to hear your musical lollipop. Tasty.

  • I just love his voice

  • Fuck that is good.

  • jack white never fails to give me multiple debilitating eargasms....

  • @jaggerlags HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! you clearly have not heard enough white stripes to even realize what you're saying is sooooo out of the intelligent world.

  • how the hell have i lived this long as a white stripes fan and never heard this!!!?? AMAZING

  • nice guitar solo!!!!! first person in this millennium to really rock it!

  • I was so depressed 2nite ... this cheered me right up. So amazing ... i think this is easily the Stripes best cover performance.

  • what tuning is this? Emaj doesnt do it. I know the KEY is in A7 but i'm not sure what tuning hes using to play it this way

  • @sartin07 try it in open g, He uses this tuning for Death Letter, Little Bird, Catch Hell Blues, and others so he can use his slide.

  • @saturnelf411 No he uses open A which is Open G a step higher

  • @jaggerlags Your comment sounds like total nonsense.

  • Comment removed

  • @jaggerlags Congradulations! You've successfully singled yourself out as a complete idiot :D

  • @jaggerlags you must have no knowledge in what music is then. You might be the dumbest person i've ever come across.

  • @jaggerlags my response is: lol

  • @jaggerlags I can see where you're coming from. I still love it, though.

  • This is bananas ..... I love bananas!

  • i like this version better than his first album one and better than the rolling stones.

  • jack white is the COOLEST MOTHERFUCKER AROUND......he can cure cancer with those riffs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BangOfBO If only!

  • @chase14

You wouldn't know good music if it kicked you in the balls. kill yourself.

  • Great song! Cool band.

  • Godddddddddddddamn

    Bow down and worship

  • there is two guitars in the song?

  • no just one

  • nah dude, Jack White is just one pickin motherfucker

  • hahaha, solid

  • @lexduex wait no you're right! in the solos there are two! this can't be live

  • @dirtycoffee22 hes using a memory man pedal for the rhythm during the solos

  • @plumbercorey are you sure? he's never used that pedal. it was probably pre-recorded

  • @skooleskool could have been prerecorded, or added in after the live performance I dont know

  • How can i get this!?!?!?!?!

  • erase the "Y" in the youtube in this url, and add a 3. press enter

  • fuck yeah the best fucking thing i´ve d heard in my life

  • one of my favourite songs...

    totally awesome...

  • Comment removed

  • Favourite version of the song.

  • I'm talking about the WS version and the original version.

  • I like both versions, and people who say this one is bad just lie to themselves, like they have to prove that only old music can be good.

There is good music and bad music, no matter when it was made.

    Love you White Stripes

  • Haha, good comment. ;)

  • is there an album of the BBC session?

  • no album that i know of...but with some good searching you can find it :)

  • I think Mr. Johnson would be pleased

  • Robert Johnson is smiling somewhere down at the crossroads, methinks.

  • @ericevans93 Yeah RJ would get it, love it, be right there with it. You know he would. I guess you can do the "music critique" thing but it sure ain't about that ....shit man can't you feel that!? ... don't that send a chill down your spine, no? .... get a defibrillator on your heart right away cause you just about dead .... rebel tonally my ass .... who cares ...

  • It sounds live to me. The "bass" you think you hear is from a foot pedal. Watch the Blackpool videos to see how he does this stuff.

  • thank you so much for posting this. kudos!

  • Amazing blues. I love hearing young musicians play the blues with their own unique twist to it. Good stuff.

  • The Black Keys... Try Out "Your Touch"

    Just Amazing!!!!!

  • dont compare that shit to this. actually that songs pretty good, but dont compare it to this

  • @estertitol totally agree, absolutely amazing

  • that tears me apart

  • INCREDIBLE

  • tha blueeeeeees baby yeah

  • Hi, Meg.

    Not bad, Jacko !

Vocals are ok... groove is good, but the feel is RIGHT !

  • I love Baby Boy Warrens version!! Its nice to see the young bucks love this music, too...

  • They put that raw edge back on the blue...lots of inspiration for garagers that's what them blue is all about.

  • The White Stripes need to play more blues. They're fucking incredible at it.

    -Crow

  • ...and this is a live performance. I totally agree. The White Stripes are incredible blues muscians.

  • i agree all there blues rock songs are amazing

  • I love the heart they put into this tribute to Robert Johnson.

  • was this played in open A on his kay hollowbody? Sounds like it

  • sounds more like an open G to me

  • bah, I guess it is in A......im drunk

  • suave

  • It is amazing!

  • Awesome rendition! How the hell can just two people create such a massive sound?

  • more than one Amp turned out really loud

  • I see...

Seriously, though, any old bunch of morons can turn their amps up to 10 (or 11, which is one louder), but how many people can sound like the White Stripes? Anyone?

  • great shit

  • I disagree. It's about the 'Stripes stripped down sound, or Clapton and his more produced sound. I like the stripped down 'Stripes way better. This is of course merely an opinion.

  • better stones' verison!!! ciao

  • Shiz! you want to see this song stripped down and really rocking... search for G.Love breaking down. It will blow your mind! G.Love is the MAN

  • MERELY, YES, INDEED.

  • i like robert johnsons version the best.

  • did you ever hear Baby Boy Warren.. Its the shit!!

  • One of the best things about the White Stripes is their clever simplicity which is put on full display in this song.

    Absolutely wonderful rendition...

  • Holy crap. Now that's music :D

  • hey yall stop breaking it down

  • The tension is what makes anything by the White Stripes beat down anything by ZZ Top. It sounds like Jack is going to f...up any minute, but he never does. It's that raw quality that will keep the Stripes alive long after they are gone.

  • best version

  • Im a white stripes fan but i have to admit i prefer zz top's version. smoother, more original...bluuusier

  • Comment removed

  • *yawn* at zztop snoozefest.

  • Why are ya breaking down on little jacky white?

  • My oh my, what an absolutely filthy Delta blues song

  • wow

  • Why didnt they put this on the first white stripes record? it so much freaken better than the other recorded one on The White Stripes

  • yeahh.................no

  • hey i know the other one has its perks but it does sound clean on this one and better recorded

  • thats one of the things i like better about the album version. its got that raw vintage sound to it

  • i suppose your right plus it sounds a lot more punk and metal than this

  • yeah it just fit better with the album. Who knows if this version was even in jack's mind back then. I agree, this version is better. Not taking away from the other one, which is righteous.

  • Amazing version of the song. If you fancy a wee play, stick your guitar in open E tuning, get a slide and go nuts ;) Oh I would also recommend an acoustic as it sounds fabbydoo :D

  • I like Jack better, too, but I don't know about the humility thing. I pretty much think that when someone else tells me they want me to be humble it's just code for "stop being better than me" and telling me about it. Humility is for altruists and people who believe in human sacrifice. No thanks.

  • I disagree, humility is important, as is altruism, people who exhibit selflessness and humility are more likable people!

  • were can I get this on a cd? "what cd is this on?"

  • It's on The B Side Collection.

BTW, it's 2 discs of absolutely incredible music. You, and every WS fan need to find a way to get it.

  • Damn, The white stripes need to put that in the US

  • Just download it dude :D Or i can send you a copy lol

  • I've got it on vinyl,

B-side on Dead leaves and the dirty ground UK vinyl single OH YESSS

    HAHAHAHAAHHA

  • This is the best version of this song ever recorded, and they did it live on the radio! Jack is a genius and Meg drums with innocent primal power. It's like going to church without all the crosses.

  • no one can touch RJ, but this is a close second, i'll admit.

  • is there a way for u to offer the audio for this video as an mp3. i am doing a project on robert johnson who wrote this song and i would love to include this version of the song

  • i want more of these bbc performances.......post more if ya gotem

  • god is it just me or is the ws the best out!!!

  • some asshole said John Mayer was better that Jack White on another video. My point here is that video shows how talented Jack is. He one of the best if not the best modern guitar player. It doesn't mater what style Blues, Rock, Metal, Shred or what ever. He is beter than John Mayer! I kinda came out of nowhere with that but of well its not opinion its fact.

  • Mayer sucks balls

  • Not sure if he's better, but definitely cooler.

  • I prefer Jack over Mayer but that's just my opinion; plus Mayer is so conceited it's ridiculous he should be more humble.

  • reminds me of Stephen Malkmus when he just let's go.

  • well if that be the case.....Fuck John Mayer!

  • so cool.long live to THE WHITE STRIPES..God bless them..

  • HAAAA TABS (or Sheet) FOR THE SOLO OF THIS PLAYING STYLE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FOUND.

    And i need a whammy :'(

    AWESOME SONG.

  • try by ear : D

  • Raw. I freakin' love this performance.

  • Stop Breaking Down with Death Letter guitar? HOLY CRAP!
