I totally agree with the concept, but let's not generalize... Not everybody is mad, some are just misled and have no "physics degree" or other knowledge. When your parent tell you stories and answer questions with god, it's hard to accept that your parent were wrong about something so important.

An uncle of mine had schizofrenia and he believed he was god lol, but he decorated his house all white, allowed nothing black, but thankfully he's better now but still believes in god. Its also common for epileptic sufferers to believe in god because they think what they see during fits are real, i know a couple of people as examples, but they also have no education to know any better whats really happening to them, shame really, cheers.

But you are 100% correct that as children we are programmed to listen to authority figures. As Richard Dawkins said, children do not get a second chance to question a parent's command of "don't get to the edge of that cliff!", it's either obey or plunge to your death. Erm, no it's not. We have the natural sciences to explain natural phenomena. Life is included within this definition of natural phenomena, therefore positing the supernatural - for which there is not a shred of evidence - as an explanation for natural phenomena, including life, fails miserably in this argument, and any other argument for that matter.
