I appreciate the conductor's technique. He's obviously absorbed in the experience of the music - as he should be - but he keeps his feet "on the ground' maintaining precise control. All the musicians are attunded together as well - more than just being "in synch". What a rush it must be for them! Bravo!
I hate to look at him, because his movements seem silly to me... But he does a great job. I love how he doesn't nerf the winds. Most conductors will let the strings dominate and totally stifle the winds, especially the horns, but Vengerov lets them shine.
For those of you who haven't played in a symphony before, conductors each have their own style of conducting. It's unique and personal, like a signature. It also depends on what he has to do to lead the symphony or, alternately and preferably, how far his symphony will allow him to go. The better they follow him, the more free he is to use his own expressive style. This conductor is able to express himself through the music because this symphony is willing to follow his lead. I hope I was clear.
i love watching him conduct. So into his music, as it should be. Lot better then watching some one just waving his arms around . U play with a lot more feeling.
@wildthang347 while it is true that he moves around while conducting, I definitely listen to the piece by the ears, not how much he dances around on stage.
thanks for posting this video great symphony

I like him as well! I'm so jealous of the musicians in that orchestra! Definitely a fine ensemble.

Woohoo! Vengerov is great as a conductor! He's usually so expressive, and this is fantastic as a conductor's quality!
