  • Thank you! It was fun to film her every other day or so. She changed so much in 2 months!

  • this is just so sweet me and my 14 month old have not stopped awwww'ing at this <3 xx

  • do you have any cats in your neighbour hood

  • what did you feed her as a duckling? and are you feeding her peas?

  • @egtarheelfan Yes. she loved peas. I fed her chicken feed crumbles as well as finely chopped greens and hard boiled egg.

  • @egtarheelfan Yes, she loves her peas!

  • Can domestic ducks fly? Usually on farms they clip the wings but yours looked like they had large wings so I was wondering if they are capable of flight, but just choose to stay put.

  • @keithp They are capable of flight. I clip them usually. Now I don't have to because we built an aviary for them. It's nice to see them fly but they prefer to walk around.

  • Brilliant! and priceless! what a pretty adult duck she is too!

  • @NykaAriadne Thanks! She's still my most spoiled little hen. We had that bonding time when she was born the same day I had surgery on my arm. I got to spend my time on leave playing with her and filming her.

  • The way it yawned at 0:41..looks like she's really comfortable with all of you.. You're very kind.. :)

  • aww why can't they stay small forever!

  • i love this video i want a duckey soooo bad!.... didnt know how i was going to raise a duck! very helpful vid thankx!!!!!!!

  • WONDERFUL video! I LOVE Ducks, and farm animals in general. I helped to raise a Goose from 3 days old til 6 months. I was shocked at how big its feet were at 3 days old!!!! I found your channel through jxh0703 and the tree peas in a pod video. I look forward to watching your videos. Thank you for sharing.

  • @chihuahuabulldog Thank you! Welcome to my channel! I love geese. Never kept one as a pet. I bet they have big feet. That's one of my favorite things besides how fluffy baby ducks are. Their big feet and when they fall asleep all stretched out. too cute!

  • Have u broken your right arm?

  • @1TomAhs1 I had ulnar nerve surgery in 2007. Wilma was born the day of my surgery which meant that I was off work the entire time she grew up and I had the camera on her constantly! :)

  • Love this video :)

Wilma is a cute duckling that becomes a grown up duck. Loopy has a loud quack when little Wilma is trying to get out of the large tub of water. I can hear a Drake's quack in the background. The bills on a call duck are shorter than that of the regular sized ducks.

  • @kd4adv Thanks for loving this video too. Wilma is quite the grown up duck now. I wish I had posted it in HD but youtube did not have that feature yet. sigh...

  • beautifully filmed and wonderful memories. i love seeing happy ducks!

  • @mangaboy09 Thanks! It was good timing to be off work during that time and filming her while she grew.

  • Very nice duck.

  • Okay thanks I just bought my first batch of ducklings (about 7 or 8 hens and a drake) so I am just waiting for them to start laying! Right now most are 12 days old, and 2 are about 5 days old. Very cute babies

  • @Whitetigerlad Oh, that sounds very fun. The 5 day olds must be so cute! They grow up way too fast though.

  • how long did this entire video take place over? like the time period?

  • @Whitetigerlad We filmed approximately a two month period. She started laying eggs her first spring. About 6 months later.

  • I recently got a new duck because my old one had passed away. This new duck doesnt like to be touched. I spend about 20-25 minites with her everyday and handfeed her tomatoes but thats as close as she gets whenever i try to touch her she freaks and runs she wont even step to close she has a very happy envirment outside and is a only duck, which is sad. But, how can I get her to not be afraid of me and make her let me pet her. Every time I even try and catch her she runs. But she does follow me.

  • @berrykari I give frozen (thawed) peas as a treat. I also dig worms out of the compost to feed them. They love it. None of my ducks are as tame as Wilma. I was on vacation for the first weeks of her life and she is never afraid of me. That being said, I cannot just go and pick her up. I have to let her climb in my lap when I have treats. Also, the less time you spend with them or the more time you spend chasing them, the more wary they get.

  • @boombella My duck hates peas i dig up worms for her to. But she mostly likes tommatoes she gets like 3 a week

  • Now that was a really cute movie :)

    Enjoyed it :)

  • What happened to you? You seem to be in a wheelchair, and in a cast?

  • @berrykari I had surgery on my arm that year. The chair was an outdoor camp chair.

  • Loved the duckling jumping out of the cup. Thanks for sharing this video with us!

  • I Love ducklings. I used to have one and it would always follow us haha. then it grew like 15x bigger and we couldnt take care of it anymore so we let it go into a lake with other ducks. it was the biggest there with white feathers but for some reason lost its quack. you could only hear a blow from the nose D:

  • 1:37 FAWKK

  • A really nice little film...........

    Ducks are so cute.

  • That is so funny my daughter was born exactly 1 year later thats her bday too lol

  • That's so cute....

  • what kind of duck id that send me a message

  • she is a call duck.

  • 1:55 - 2:00, was so cute!

i love animals, and ducks are one of my favorite animals!

  • nice film :) id like to keep ducks as pets one day. good to see people being kind to animals.

  • Okay, thanks! ( I wouldn't want my ducks to fly away! ) :P

  • Boombella, I'm not sure if we should chip our duck's wings when we get them. i don't want me duck to fly away. Should we? We didn't clip our chickens'.

  • You should clip the flight feathers of one wing only. It's enough to keep them close until they learn where home is. Unless they are in an aviary and then you won't need to clip. The feathers grow back after each molt so you can decide then if you need to do it again.

  • Boombella,

Do you clip their wings? I always wanted call ducks, but I heard that they are very loud and can fly quite well. I bought Cayuga's and Khaki Campbell's instead.

  • Yes, the hens are loud. Since they are in an aviary I'm letting the wings grow out. It's fun to see them fly. Not fun when they don't want to go to bed in their house.

  • are they guna eat them? or do they want duck eggs :O

  • They are pets but we do eat the eggs. It's as if the hens are paying the rent. :)

  • Is there any difference about the taste of chicken eggs and duck eggs?

  • There is a difference. Duck eggs are a bit more tough. They are best used in batter or hard boiled. They make awesome batter for fried chicken.

  • Haha, but ducks only lay eggs when they had sex right?

  • no ducks lay eggs regardless of males present or not, thats why my mom got mad when i got some males for my females, they sat on their eggs to hatch them and they stopped laying more for a while

  • duck eggs have a richer yolk as well, fried duck eggs are so good, me and my mom both prefer duck to chicken eggs thats why she use to get mad when id let them sit on their eggs because they stop laying for a while when they sit on them

  • Ok thanks....

  • You are very kind person........I also have a duck and I love it like you love yours

  • Thank you. They are so irresistible!

  • wonderful film, love ducks.

  • Great video. My parents had a pair of call ducks that lived for 12 years each. They died of natural causes within 6 months of each other. I can't tell you about the joy they brought to our lives. Best pets ever.

  • That's absolutely adorable!

  • do they fly away?

  • do they grow large fast? and when they are older do they become less tame?

  • They grow large way too fast! Yes they are less tame as they get older unless you spend time with them every day. Mine get more tame the more I spend with them. Unfortunately, I don't see them enough.

  • what happened to your arm?

  • OMG she become so beauty

  • Comment removed

  • But agian you take awsome care of them!! What beautifull pets! God bless you for keeping them so well! 5 stars from me!

  • happy ducks

  • heyb boombella howd u get it so tame?I HAVE TO NOW MY CALL DUCKS R TAME BUT NOT TAME ENOUGH!HAAAAAAAAAALP

  • Wilma is tame because she had me with her every day spoiling her with peas and worms. It's hard to do it if you can't be with them every day. I have to tackle her sometimes but then she calms down in my lap and eats her treats. I don't spoil her every day like I used to. Now we have three new babies stealing the attention.

  • hey do you know where i could buy some call ducks . i have been searching everywhere and cant find any.

  • :D ~ARMORED~

  • Great video. Hopefully you have some Pekin duck video loaded in future.

  • soo cute! my goodness ^-^ i loved how u could c how big the duck got over time amazing!

  • super cute little ducky!

  • great duck's hehehe

  • your very very god duck

  • Loopy is very good mother to Wilma!

They are so cute! Your ducks are smart and very cute...Watch out for those bad hawks!

I hate them when they killed the mourning doves in my backyard!

How big is Wilma now? (your video was in 2007)

  • So cute!!:)

  • I love vedio ♪

  • I like your duks so much.

  • Cute video. Wilma's adorible.

  • absolutely beautiful :)Love'em when hes in the tea cup lol

  • Such a good mother.

  • SO precious. :)

  • How adorable :)

  • I had to raise two ducklings this summer for the first time and they are a lot more work than I thought it would be. Granted, one of mine, I had to check up on every so often due to his head being pecked by a chicken but it was worth it. Now they both will allow us to hold them and we hand feed them so that they wont randomly decide to hate people!!! I love my ducks!!!

  • u filmed day 1 on my birthday. i luv ducks =)

  • Lovely film. Ive been thinking about getting a couple of ducks but not sure what the neighbours would think of the noise. Do you know of any other small ducks which are less noisy than calls but still have an amusing disposition? Thanks.

  • I don't know all duck breeds but I doubt you could get a duckling that doesn't make a lot of noise. The only thing that I found with ducklings is they are very messy (I mean poop and food everywhere)and they cheap like crazy when you step out of the room for even a few minutes. But if you can deal with that then go for it, I hope to never have to raise ducks again, I only did it cuz they were abandoned.

  • I have the same baby ducks just three days old, its nice to see how they will grow up.

  • i so want a baby duck. but my dad said no. :( they are soooo cute. did they just like appear in your yard one day, or did you buy them??????

  • We bought some and have raised their babies every year. It takes a little work to keep ducks but they are great pets. you want to have a safe house for them.

  • why didnt the mother hatch the egg?

  • The white duck, Loopy is the only one of the bunch that gets broody. The other hens are only too happy to let her do the work.

  • where did u get the bedding or the hay thatare in the cages?

  • America's Choice Pine Bedding. Sold at feed, hay stores. Any pine bedding will do though. Straw also works.

  • lmao at 1:27-1:24

  • im geussing your ducks like peas?

  • I got the idea from another youtube user and it was a winner. I should have known though because my ducks will devour the pea plants that I try to grow in my garden. I have to protect them.

  • Again, Another Very Nice Video, Its Amazing How A Cute Little Duckling Can Grow Into A Big Beautiful Adolescent Duck In Just 2 Months :)

Wilma is soo beautiful, It looks like youve done a terrific job of looking after these lovly ducks, All the best, And keep on making more videos! :)

  • Thanks for your kind comments. I've been swamped lately but will probably post a little more video of this year's baby, Junebug. She's starting to feather but still very 'baby' You can see Wilma again in the 'What Makes You Happy' video. I've got her very tame with the use of those peas!

  • Sometimes i wonder if there are any good people left in the world. Thanks for being one of them.

  • That's a nice thing to say, thanks.

  • You are very welcome.

Great movie of Wilma by the way.

  • So cute! I've raised birds of various species (finches to African Greys), and always wanted to hand-raise a duckling.

    Adorable!

  • thanks!

  • Were did you get the ducks and how long did it take to be an grone up and wut duck?

  • The pekin was really mothering the baby mallard. Funny.

  • I love this video!They're all soo cute!Thanks for sharing!:~D

  • Wow!!! I loved the vid!! I get my new pet baby Pekin Duck tomorrow :) If you have any good advice I would love to hear it!!! :)

  • Thanks, my first advice would be to kiss the baby duck often. It's good luck for both of you;)

Check out backyardchickens dot com. They have great advice for keeping ducks too.

  • what do you do to keep hawks away

  • We are working on a solution. Right now, they get supervised outings. They have a 4X12 foot run attached to their house but they want to go out and forage. We would love to put a lid over out whole garden but have not figured out how to do it.

  • so the hawks wont bother them if your outside ps did you check out my vids of my call ducklings

  • We are pretty vigilant while out there. The hawks will come check them out and that's when we herd them back into the run. If I was at one end of the garden and the ducks on the other, I don't think I could keep a hawk from grabbing one. Listen to the crows and bluejays if they live near you. They will sound the alarm more times than not and even chase hawks away. Saw some of the vids, your going to have quite a flock! :)

  • yeah i have seen crows chasing them before here i was surprised but yeah i started out with 20 calls i gave three away and 5 died:( i wanted just like five but i guess i will have to keep 9 oh boy im uploading a vid here in a sec of them outside just look over dad lol he's crazy

  • What Color of calls where in this video? What color is the duckling?

  • They are mostly mixed. There is a white call and the baby is chocolate but she has a little white on her neck. I don't think I have any pure colors. Let me know if you have any ideas!

  • Yeah I thought that the duckling was a chocolate too with a mix of something else maybe, The others look like they could be snowy, magpie and black.

I have white and mallard color(grey) calls and some mixed. I can tell you really like them!

Very cute video, Call ducks are just so cute!

  • I've never had duck (eaten it) because it's weird to eat something so cute. Now, I'll NEVER eat duck!! NEVER!

  • ducks are awesome

  • why don't u let the real mom/hen sit on her own eggs.

  • Good question. She's not interested in sitting on them and will lay her eggs in Loopy's nest. Loopy gets "broody" and will sit on all of them though.

  • Thanks, for your reply. They tend to lay eggs where they see them. My guess is if u made her her own nest after she laid all her own eggs she would sit."Loopy" my guess is also Dom. over her reason she wont push her off the nest. I have pekin ducks they look kinda like call ducks ,but with out the noise. lol

  • Interesting, we notice that Loopy gets the cold shoulder from the ducks in the flock during a certain part of the year. They practically chase her back inside the house. I'm not sure what it means. Oh and Caboose will drop her load anywhere! LOL even in her swimming pool.

  • 5 star! adorable!

  • EXCELLENT Video. Thank you for sharing, 5 stars and Faved.

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you :)

  • Five stars for sure in terms of rating and defintitely because of the one big star of this show : Wilma! What perfect casting. She is amazing!

  • Thank you thank you! She stole my heart and also helped me heal after my surgery.

  • I think this video should be featured in the Pets & Animals category :) The shots were perfect and it seemed very professional. There were some really funny moments in there too. 5 stars.

  • Thank you! How nice of you to say. I have no clue how they pick vids to feature though. However, I am glad that you stopped by and enjoyed it. I like all your videos! :)

  • Hi Karen! I'm sooo behind on seeing your fabulous ducks; they are simply adorable and if you tune in before I see you tomorrow, Beanie Boy is being a perfect guest and misses you terribly. See you soon~~~~

    Gae

  • Well that is good to hear. I miss my Beanie Boy too! See ya!

  • where did you got yuor first call ducks?i love these ducks i would love to breed my own.

  • I got them from a neighbor but he is a breeder and has a website. jacklongbirds dot com

    They really are characters.

  • Really nice video with some very very good, moving cuts (zoomed ones), almost like a professional documentary :) Good work. And the duckling is sooo cute:)

  • Thank you so much! It was very hard for me to not re-use footage from Wilma's First Big Day!

  • Hmm I thought I posted a comment. This video is adorable. What a sweet kid. They grow up so fast!

  • Thanks for coming back and checking and posting another comment:) Yes, they grow up too fast if you ask me!

  • Love it Karen...makes me want a duck but...I don't think my 4 dogs would like it...

  • No maybe not. That means you should come for a visit :)

  • oh whoa wilma grown sooo big and fast!

  • Yeah, too fast for me. I miss the baby peeper.

  • Wilma looked so comfortable as a baby. You guys took great care of her:)So cute watching Wilma rest on her moms back. This looks like so much fun to be able to care for these ducks. They are SO cute!! What a wonderful video to watch.

  • Thanks, it was fun to make too!

  • Wilma is soooo cute! Watching her be loved, grow, learn "duck" things, etc., I thoroughly enjoyed the video, plus Louie (my African Texas Grey) started making duck sounds while watching with me! Some of the duck noises even sounded like laughter. :-)

  • I agree! I sometimes imagine a group of grandmas sitting around a table playing cards and cackling with laughter when all the hens go quacky. Thanks for the visit and comment!

  • Great video and great "owners" :-)

  • thank you very much.
