In my mind if there is any level of doubt it is a no no, and as this tool is unnesasary anyway, I would always put the fish first.

If left alone they get big and live to be 20 years old, the aint like carp, they aint that tough and have a much shorter life.

You all seem to have missed the point here, these things are no good for pike, due to the pikes body shape, and size, even holding a large pike in the air by its gill will do it internal damage, but dont worry as long as you get to use your little toy, and you see the fish swim off !?!

Always thought lip grips were brutal till I used one and having landed dozens of pike with one I realize my thoughts were misguided just like some of the comments here, they are in fact very fish friendly so those negative comments are made in ignorance.

I've been pike fishing for over 30 years mate and never had to use any tools to hold my pike And all of them have gone back in as good as they were before i caught them !!!

Ok, before you get ignorant, and start jumping to conclusions, that was a BogaGrip, not a gaff. A gaff is used in saltwater and salmon boats, where the fish is too far to reach due to the boats height. A BogaGrip, is a tool to grab the lip, without hurting the fish (Unless they decide to shake around violently) and, it also protects the fish, because It doesn't remove their protective coating if you touch them. Learn your facts before you be a complete jerk, dumbass.
