Nice video...but too short! Why is The Netherlands called BOTH "the Netherlands" And "Holland"?  Holland is a beautiful country and word...but "The Netherlands" sadly sounds a bit creepy!

WHY have 2 names 4 1 country? And why use "The Netherlands" as one name for the country? Sounds like "Netherworld"....creepy! Why does a nice country like Holland have this appellation????

@UTAOUB It's called the Netherlands because most of the country is situated below sea level. 'Holland' is the erroneous name given to the Netherlands by a majority of foreigners, but is in common use now with many Dutch people as well (colloquialism). It's an area in the west consisting of the two provinces of Noord-Holland (North) and Zuid-Holland (South). There are 12 provinces in total.
