This is from late 1972, when Miles Laboratories reintroduced Speedy (again with Dick Beals' voice, produced in stop-motion animation) with a new "Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz" campaign. These days, Miles' successor, Bayer, has done it again, with a computer-generated Speedy and a refrain of the jingle.
My father sold this product for (then) Miles Labratories (now) Bayer for 25 years. We always had Alka Seltzer, Flintstones Vitamins, and 1 A-Day in the cupboard. Even have Sammy Sings promo from Miles album. . . those were the days. . .
I still use Alks-seltzer to this day and I am 49 years old. I even sing the "Plop-Plop, Fizz, Fizz" jingle while I am waiting for the tablets to dissolve. It helps me sleep at night and reduces my foot pain.
I took some Alka-Seltzer and now I see this little kid with an Alka-Seltzer body, standing on my bedside table, singing.... What do they put in those things??
"What a release it is..." This product kills seagulls by expanding their stomachs until they pop. Wonder if any suicidal ones took this commerical too seriously...
Sound lkike Gumby? That';s because it is, a par ttime Gumby. Dick Beals was SAkSel, Davey of D&G, Gumby for a time, and Ralph Phillips, a Looney Tunes Charlie brown type.
I'm only 23, so the only access I've had to these classics was on TVLand and here on YouTube. I think they're great. I'm majoring in Marketing and I have a real theory that if we were to make ads a bit longer and to bring back the catchy tunes to ads, they'd be more effective. My grandpa's 73 years old and I catch him whistling and singing songs to old commercials more than anything else. I say having a consumer remember a song from a commercial after 50 years is effective advertising!
Doesn't Speedy know he is advocating the destruction of his fellow Alka-Seltzer tablets?

@DNSKansas don't you see he has a magic wand and can create new tablets at his whim...Speedy rules!

It's good to see that Alka-Seltzer had brought back good 'ol Speedy for today's generation to see.

I'm thinking that this was sometime in the 1970's with the "Plop Plop Fizz Fizz" jingle.
I always thought that jingle was a tad... well, er, scatalogical.

@mtgcnv67 yeah, there's something amusing and charming about Ol' Speedy. Probably why they keep bringing him back. They're using him in ads again
