Masayuki Nagao of the Sega Sound Team recently confirmed that this act of Hydrocity was arranged by him. The original composer is still unknown, though.
I can assure you that it is by no means Drossin's. Drossin's contributions was the composing of the S&K main theme & S&K Knuckles Theme, in other words the tracks from the Virtual Sonic produced by Drossin that matched those from the game. It should also be noted that that album, though released in 1996, was actually recorded in 1993. Those tracks were basically sent to Japan, where Masaru Setsumaru arranged the two themes to create the corresponding five tracks heard in S&K.
Simply put, the tracks that can linked to him and his sound team are the ones that are replaced in S&K Collection, which amounts to ten (Carnival Night 1+2, IceCap 1+2, Launch Base 1+2, Competition Menu, S3 Act 1 Boss, S3 Knuckles' Theme and S3 Staff Roll).
Hydrocity being remade in Sonic Generations is ultimate proof that Hydrocity isn't MJ et al.'s b/c they're free to reuse it.
I think it's either Scirocco (who did cues for a "Stage 2" theme) or Sachio Ogawa (via The Hybrid Front
@kyubihanyou It really wouldn't have matter if it was MJ's because, on a technicality, Sega owns the rights to Sonic and it's music, thus making them able to implement it into newer games. So MJ could still be the composer.
@pornokrat meh this stage tries to be Chemicla Plant but it fails and you cant dissapear from screen in this stage you can however dissapear from screen in Chemical Plant!
@pornokrat Chemicla Plant is MUCH Faster actually since it has speed boosters ALL OVER THE PLACE and you can dissapear from screen at some point. In Hydrocity Zone though you can't i've tried but you just can't!
@bardhi09 Well, that happened on Mega Collection, where i Chemical Plant, Sonic got stuck in the loop (I think on Act 2) due to his insane speed in that level. Unfairly, this also happened in my custom tileset on Sonic 1 way too much, sadly. It makes the Genesis insane when it can't handle a little speed, yet it can in Sonic 3 and 2.
since i love this song i'm going to ask a totaly out of the blue question that know one would have guessed i would ask... did micheal jackson compose the music to this game?
isn't it possible that micheal didn't compose the music, but instead all the sound samples from the game moonwalker were used on this game? correct me if im wrong.
Michael Jackson didn't compose most of his own tracks, certainly not the most famous ones. Moreover, if he did have any involvement (which I don't think he did) with any of the music, he chose not to put his name on the credits; that means he either didn't think much of the result, or was too embarassed by having his name attached to a videogame. Either way, you know what that means? That means he gets no credit.
I think he did it in a cameo sort of way. He had a huge hand in composing the music but he with his fame I don't think a credit mattered to him. I think he did it for the sheer fun and pleasure of making music.
Sonic 3 is the game that brings back the most memories too me, still remeber me with my first game console sitting in the living room spending my whole day playing this
I wouldn't say no more 3D Sonic games, because there were decent ones, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 always come to mind but, still they had very bad glitches and problems throughout. I loved the running stages in Unleashed, what they need to do is use the same formula for the running stages they did in Unleashed and make a full game out of it with no stupid ass Gimmicks that Sonic Team is so fond of putting in Sonic these days.
@GiantSandles Overrated is in anycase, when you think something is getting more than it deserves. If you think it was a good game, then it's NOT overrated. You rated it different than the other people, that's all, and therefore it depends on tastes. So... you just said I was right, and that was precisely the point on saying that.
>If you think it was a good game, then it's NOT overrated.
Rating a game isn't as simple as black and white, you know. Games are normally rated on a 1-10 scale, not on a thumbs up and thumbs down rating system. So that line of argument is completely retarded in this case.
>You just said I was right, and that was precisely the point on saying that.
You seem to have missed my point. Juxtaposing the two statements together as I did, you must see that they completely negate each other, no?
@GiantSandles > I'm aware of that, thank you =) and that's why I'm saying... good gameplay, good music, good graphics (even more for the age and resources)... as much as I see it... it IS a good game and it's NOT overrated... you just didn't like it that much. Also... I'm not retarded and I don't make retarded arguments =)
> Not at all... you said what overrated was, and that's why I was saying I got that point before of giving my opinion =)
@Camposkpo You aren't getting it at all. I'll repeat my points. Saying a game is overrated is not the same as saying a game is bad - contrary to what you seem to imply. For example, I'd say Halo 3 is overrated. It's still a pretty good game, but not worth the average review score of 94 that it has.
Secondly, saying 'It's a good game' and then saying 'It depends on taste' is COMPLETELY self-contradictory. I really shouldn't need to explain myself on that one, so I won't.
@GiantSandles It's not... you're not getting mine. The fact that you like it or not, doesn't make it better or worst. THAT's why it depends on taste. If you think it's overrated is because you think it's taken better than it deserves to be taken. YOU're the one confusing words here.
@fatmanrock44 Yes, I think he composed for sonic 1 and 2 also. Sonic's sneakers would look nice on micheal jackson just imagine it. Do NOT imagine Mj's face, though.
Yeah Act 2 is so awesome, but the first part of the act is so hard, it's like you have no time to think, you have to run, or else you drown or get crushed by the approaching wall.
Can't really be sure which is which, however the sonic 3 Act Boss theme (during sub-bosses) is clearly a MJ track, however the stage boss themes don't seem to have any MJ influence... I think they tried to remove the MJ tracks from S&K, considering the Act Boss music in S&K isn't an MJ track, however, since S3 and S&K are two parts of one game it doesn't make a difference really.
Great choice. This song was great, despite my failure of levels with water in them. Theres just so much memorable sonic music in my opinion though, but nevertheless is one of the best old tunes.
