@Mik3Nobl3s I dont know if you noticed, but that was a 5 tier cathedral. Do you really think we used a 5" knife for the whole thing? no! obviously not. We used a smaller knife for demonstration purposes. So not everyone who does this can understand how to, and have a little more control over the finish product.
Great job, and even better presentation! Young lad reminds me of my son, whom has been by my side learning since he was 9! He is now 16 and trains my guys how to do such work! Again, great job! Thanks for posting!
I think it looks great, but man have you heard of a knockdown knife? It is pliable, 2' wide and made of plastic. Time is money, and you get the same finish, just a bajillion times faster.
its sad that the people are commenting about the look of the worker does it really matter? looks like he's doing a great job. I have been a general contractor over 10yr and some of the best workers I ever had looked like gansters straight out of the hood but I have never ever had a call back because there shingles blew off or there work did not pass inspection. BE GLAD A YOUNG AMERICAN IS WILLING TO DO CONSTRUCTION instead of some illegal and leave it alone.
@scottsgeneraltrading Well yes it does matter! If your goin n2 customers homes anyways. If there was an 60 yr old couple livin in that house his appearance would probably freak them out. I suppose it doesnt matter for new construction, but its not very professional. I have tats and 4 piercing on my face but i take them all out & cover the tats b4 entering some1s home. Half of the work i get is from references & i dont want to scare any1 walkin n all tatted up with jewelry all in my face ya know.
The first room was a little "thin" on the amount of texture I used but came out just fine.. I used a 24" clear lexan knockdown knife (kept it wiped clean after each pass)..
I used premixed 56 lb green top buckets of mud (thinned down to a pancake batter thick) I also bought a "Wagner Power Tex" gun, worked like a champ even on full rooms.. Glad I do not have to do this every day :)
If you want a better idea on how to do a knockdown feel free to watch our tutorial video listed on our videos.
It shows pretty well everything. Just spray with a white drying mud, and wait and test every now and again to see when its ready to knockdown. You don't want it to wet that it will leave lines in the finish.
Ok, so I am working up the guts to do this myself.... I have already cleared the "popcorn" .. any recommendations or advice on "what to use" to spray the new plaster up before knocking it down?
Excuse the "Haters" youtube tends to allow some pretty immature people a sounding board
im a pro.. a for effort but use as wide of a knife as you can 2 knock down, this poor guy is killing him self, spray a large area, let sit for 10to15 min and knockdown with a 12in to what ever size knife.the bigger the better u can buy a 24in plastic knockdown knife i promise it will litterally be 20 x as fast
No, you would probably hire the guy dressed in Polo's and kaki's then wonder why your 3 days behind on your project. But damn, your guys sure look good, huh.
He's friggen drywalling. Should he be wearing a suit and tie? Dumbass.
omg please get a bigger blade

Well I have 8 of the 9 rooms done.

Aaron looks like the head elf dude from the movie "ELF" with Will Ferrill. Check it out.

thats shitty for you to say that about your guy and your doing it in the name of a superficial impression.
he is fine and probably better at it than you are.
your response about "simply a laborer" means that you try real hard for an impression and really don't get it.
you would get "knocked down" if i was around you for 20 minutes with your ignorant attitude.

Hi skidz4500.
The typical name for this type of ceiling is a knockdown or a California style ceiling.
I have heard some people call it an orange peel as well, so I felt it would be a worthwhile mention.
Also you are right about Aaron, he did not look professional at all i agree. Aaron was not a taper, he was simply a labourer for Precision Taping.
He happened to be very good at doing this type of ceiling however.
Thanks for your comment.
