"Barely 50%" is rather a lot, don't you think, when it comes to making political decisions that affect the lives of thousands? Especially when the person making those decisions (the 14th Dalai Lama) cannot be questioned and anyone who questions him gets falsely labelled as a Chinese sympathizer? Religion does indeed play a prominent role in Tibet -- it is entirely mixed with politics in a theocratic throw back to the middle ages. And I am not a Chinese person saying this, but a Westerner.
this is nonsense. the Dalai Lama relies on these oracles barely 50% in terms of governing his people.this is just one of the many religious rites that have existed in the tibetan society for decades long. and if u know much, u'd prolly be aware that religion plays a paramount role in tibet.relating this oracle system of tibet to the us presidential elections is just meaningless.you sound like just another shugden follower with the intentions to turn more americans against the dalai lama.grow up!
I would rather have Sarah Palin than the DL for VP, and that is really saying something, as she would be the most hopeless, scary VP ever. But at least she is not being hypocritical, pretending to be a champion of human rights abroad and persecuting her own people at home. The Dalai Lama, on the other hand, preaches tolerance and religious freedom and then bans a 400 year old religious practice based on the mutterings of an oracle (seen in the video).
need to rule out mccain too.. he is from panama... but i'm guessing we probly based there .. US likes to make bases every where...surely thats why the exception.. i dont know... or maybe you can buy the election after all..
The U. S. gave up The Panama Canal territory while under Pres. Carter (Carter, who got spanked by Reagan). Was McCain born AFTER this fact, or was he born BEFORE this? (duh)
duh right back to you =P from my comment i mention the possibility panama may have been in US control at the time.. you only confirmed it... so i see no point putting the "duh" it should be left for someone else =P
The Dalai Lama has relied upon the strange mutterings of this spirit oracle shown here to decide that many thousands of his own Tibetan people can no longer practice their religion! He has banned the practice of Buddha Dorje Shugden -- a bit like the Pope banning the prayer of Saint Francis. He has expelled monks from monasteries and caused widespread ostracism and human rights abuses in lay society. Dalai Lama, lift this ban. Practice at home what you preach in the West -- religious freedom.
Indeed...WAKE UP AMERICA! God's name has been invoked from the inception of our great nation...Sarah Palin doesn't want "oracles" leading our nation...nor do we want a US Senator who has accomplished NOTHING in his term as Senator, believes that killing babies is acceptable and wants us lay down our nuclear weapons (look up the video on you tube) Vote for Obama at our nations peril!
Both comments written by a nonShugden Tibetan woman: "Until recently I thought, the more we talk about this conflict, the worse it becomes. I have changed my mind. I know now that it is wrong to remain silent. All genuine Tibetan democrats must speak up in the political debate over Shugden. When a few are forced to take on the view of many, were going down a dangerous path. It is our duty to speak up. Our young democracy will remain in bad shape if we let this happen without a reaction."
The way Tibetans have been handling the Dholgyal/Shugden issue says quite a bit about the state of our democratic values. We Tibetans are okay with dissenters being forced into obedience. We see nothing wrong with this political style. We have no issues with the Dalai Lama exerting pressure on dissenters by using secular government organs and tolerating oaths and signature actions in his name. Some even believe it is their duty to expose Dholgyal/Shugden supporters and slander them.
The Dalai Lama doesn't have any actual power in Tibet. It was overthrown by the Chinese more than half a century ago, so blaming civil rights violations on the Dalai Lama is disingenuous.
The Dalai Lama relies on spirits in a trance to make important political decisions, including his repressive ban on Buddhist Shugden practitioners. This is crazy and it is wrong.

Dalai Lama is a good choice for VP, but I do not think he is a U.S. citizen, so we have to rule him out.

1: He's a religious leader, so of course he's gonna use religious practices.
2: That's a lie, he hasn't banned any kind of religious practitioner. In fact, he couldn't even if he wanted to.

Perhaps this is the same thing Palin wants for the USA, but from a Christian perspective??
dprague 3 years ago 13
Except that the Dalai Lama is already a Bodhisattva. The equivalent in Christian theocracy would be if Jesus was running for office.
uberjim83 3 years ago 2
Good point. However, it appears that Christian Americans believe that Jesus will come back soon.
dprague 3 years ago
Yeah, but has there ever been a generation of Christians who DIDN'T think he was coming back soon?
