  • I'm offensive and I find this video very celtic!

  • I love these guys...So if you are not open minded then you won't enjoy the creativity and the artistry they bring to both sound and instrument.

  • Somebody get these guys some motherfucking A/C!!!

  • easy to see why Bela has been nominated in more categories for a Grammy than anyone else. What a master he is! How lucky we are to have this genius in our time.

  • I must know where Futureman gets his hats.

  • @PopcornBunni bet you he makes those too.

  • WHATS THAT INSTRUMENT IN THAT PIRATE NIGGA'S HANDS ?

  • @nemkarazak: People like you are proof America is an equal opportunity country; you are equally as ignorant as the next racist jackass. Get a life, dude!

  • @queenvme I didn't mean nigga as a racist expression I mean that like you call your friend 'bro'.

  • Anyone know what kind of bass Wooten's using?

  • Just amazing musicianship of the absolute highest order! Thank you.

  • Folks, you can't fault @CroissantOrange. Heck, 'Orange could have had that gig, but he turned it down to play with even more renowned musicians. THAT is why he is so judgemental - he is another one of them "temperamental artists". Or else he is one of those people who lack talent yet criticize everything - while contributing nothing. (but it is fun to watch - sorta like watching a really inept teenager learning to skateboard)

  • LOVE!

  • I don't know what is better in this vid ... the fleck's banjo, wooten's bass or the futuristic drum. hahaha'

  • So this is 'Michael' from 'The Music Lesson' !?!? :)

  • MrChadbag and CroissantOrange are the coolest... shut the fuck up and listen to the sick music you two dumb shits!

  • @xtralage You do realize you can reply while the videos are playing :)

  • Saw Bela at summer camp 2011- he kicked some serious ass- straight blessing to get to see him live.

  • Saw Futureman last night rockin the pirate gear! Arrrrr! They were awesome! If you've never seen the Flecktones.... GODS! All of them! Victor Wooten is the planet's Supreme Being of Bass!

  • Heads up! There's a pirate playing drum-tar!

  • VW is awesome!

  • That's another way to play drums.

  • 4:03 Victor Wooten lol =)

  • CA MON MAN OR KIDS get with the program. 4 letter words just make you sound like numb nuts. this not a fashion show. quit commenting on ones attire, shut up and watch and listen, and get on with whats important.

  • these guys are tripping their balls off! awsome!

  • excelent!!

  • Pardon my intrusion into this witty and lively "discussion" - might I just venture to say, "nice music!!" Thanks. Carry on with your witty and lively discussion.

  • funny how people fall for trolls

  • i didnt know guitar hero made a limited edition cosby sweater geeeetar....

  • Croissantorange, you need to settle down. Gettin angry at couple people tryin to enlighten you? I think you can take your stubborn pmsing to a different site so we can have comments about the videos instead of douchebags.. Banjos whats up though, as well as futureman and wooten.

  • This really appeaps to my Irish soul, but it`s just another great example of how international music truly is~ many thanks to Bela,Futch & Victor and of course Nevesh for the posting!!!

  • What a great band!!!

  • who has a problem with futureman and his personal choice to drum on this amazing contraption? excuse me while i beat your face in, without the use of violence.

  • @CroissantOrange hmm I could jst play drums like everyone else, or........invent my own instrument. Which sounds better?

  • better ?

  • The talent in this video made me piss myself.

  • so the pirate guy is playing what looks like a cross between a clarinet or a basoon with a bass and what looks like a terrorist bomb ?

  • @Asimo44 It's called a drumatar. It's actually really really neat. That's Futureman. All of these guys are really down to earth and love their fans.

  • wtf is that thing

  • Unbelievable...you 3 play so well as a trio!!! Thanks for the inspiration. Makes me proud to be American and to play banjo.

  • U can see the heat coming out from them xD

  • Don't take the piss out of Future Man, he's a legend.

  • 4:06 = orgasm

  • Didn't know Jack Sparrow played the drum... accordion... thing.....yeah

  • this one goes out to my main pa Bill Wright J.R.

  • Fleck and Wooten are tight all the way through. Excellent performance and collaboration of skills.

  • startrek lol

  • IT'S TRIPLETS, where do you people study music at? Best buy? CMON!

  • ITS TRIPLETS! Some musician.

  • Futureman's sick....

  • @CroissantOrange

Now? Dude, first off this medley was aired 17 years ago, second - how can you tell he's got a hip hop attitude - amazes me, third - seriously what does his drumitar's looks have to do with his performance, or let me rephrase - what does you comment has to do with music other than mindless ranting?

  • @Yaahooz First, he does. How? Observation. Second, his drumitar or whatever the fuck it is has a lot to do with his performance which doesn't have anything to do with music itself. If you play drums just play drums.

  • @CroissantOrange

Observation, oh right. I forgot it's obviously so spot on when you can tell someone has this or that attitude based on the way he's dressed on stage. Rofl, seriously dude, youre gonna go with that one?:) Second, no, his instrument has nothing to do with his performance, if you can play, you can play, if you can't play, you can't no matter if its drums, drumitar or whatever else. Come back when you have anything of value to add dude, seriously

  • @Yaahooz No? It's music, not some costumed Shakespearean. They don't dress so because of the needs of the performance or anything. Get some common sense before open your mouth. And what does it mean "you can, you can, you can't, you can't" bullshit? That's what corporate representatives came up with to sell you recorded noise from primates banging on random shit pretend it to be music? You wanna hear a triangle virtuoso for 2 hours? Get fucking real: your fucking value right there fuckwit.

  • @CroissantOrange Yea whatever you wanna troll about, go ahead:) I just knew you were gonna go with names eventually, kinda typical for people who have nothing to say:) You wanna throw stuff at Roy Wilfred Wooten, the guy who's been acclaimed as one of the best jazz drummers in the world, just cause he dressed up this way, you go ahead & be my guest:D Its you showing your ignorance after all, so I really couldn't care less:)

  • @CroissantOrange Oh and btw. yes, he did dress this way as a performer, has always been his trademark, and no he never had a hiphop attitude and never got involved into hip hop, he has always been a jazz person and not only a musician, also an inventor, hence his original looks and strange instruments and his nickname: Future Man. But you wouldn;t know about that, would you now?:)

  • @CroissantOrange Your posting is a clear contender for my personal "The ten dumbest things on the internet" list.

  • @Centigonos Please sand me your list!!

  • @Centigonos you obviously know nothing about music or jazz. Bela Fleck is someone who knows SO MUCH about jazz, bluegrass and world music. Each one of the musicians in this band are experts on their instrument including the one who created his own instrument (Future Man). I have seen the Flecktones 3 or 4 times and the Wooten Brothers twice. You are a fucking idiot. You are welcome. Kiss my ass.

  • @timnc99 I assume that you didn't read my posting correctly: it was supposed to be a reaction CroissantOrange's comment which ridiculed Roy Wooten as a "hip hop attitude pirate drummer" at which i took offense. If you had read more carefully before resorting to the ad hominem, maybe you would have gotten it right. For me not knowing about music or jazz: You don't know a tithe about me. Still you call me "a fucking idiot". And, no, I won't kiss your ass.

  • @Centigonos It is a big deal that a guy with average opinions just like everyfuckingone else got a list of random shit and my post is in it? Yeah, you had a little bit of my attention now go and bark at someone else. And for the little smartass who correct me "it is not a drum machine" give me a fucking break, it is a drum machine.

  • @CroissantOrange Right. And now back under your bridge, troll!

  • @Centigonos What's that supposed to mean? That you know internet culture of "troll lmao, lol, moare teh win so fail epic and what fucking esle" therefor you're cool and right? That I'm supposed to give you some respect because you're "calling me out" and "know the rule of the game"? Fuck you stupid narrow sound like everybody else opinions and fuck your internet ritual bullshit.

  • @CroissantOrange That's a nice accent you've got there. Where are you from? Vulgaria?

  • @CroissantOrange it is a machine that manipulates drums, but a drum machine is something that keeps a constant beat with no manual help involved.

  • @CroissantOrange Sorry, it is not a drum machine. If you had a clue what a drum machine is you would not say such ignorant things. It is a controller, a trigger, that triggers drum sounds from sound modules. It is a midi controller. A drum machine is a programmable "beat keeper" and "rhythm player" that will play and keep the beat for you -- once programmed without any sort if human input or playing. Totally different machines and for different purposes.

  • @MrChadbag Yeah so the difference is whether you input it real time or not.. Big fucking deal. Same shit goes to those "DJ" I guess? "No man, it's not a CD player, we manipulate it real time therefor we are artist". Fuck them, it's just a play button. A machine is a machine. Fuck machine users.

  • @CroissantOrange You are really clueless aren't you. No, the DJ analogy falls completely flat and has nothing to do with the issue. The Drumitar is not a drum machine. It is a musical instrument that triggers electronic drum sounds. Totally different concept and idea. And not the same as a DJ "manipulating" a CD. Your analogy would be someone who programmed a drum machine and then provided some sort of real time manipulation or changing of what the drum machine was playing.

  • @MrChadbag Should I take a guy who put the words "concept" and "idea" back to back with an "and" in between seriously? Besides you don't know what you talking about so please don't try to be a smart ass.

  • @CroissantOrange Sorry you are so ignorant. I know very well what I am talking about. You seem to be the one having problems on the comprehension front and to be talking out his ass. Any serious musician would laugh at you and mock you for the dumb things you have claimed here.

  • @MrChadbag Ooh, the "serious musician" excuse again. Are you gonna cry too? I shit on "serious musicians" on a daily basis with my job.. those insecure fucks who jump on the same wagon of terms, you know, stupid terms (like concept and idea) made up to mask the fact that they are all talentless subhumans comparing to their predecessors. And to say "you're ignorant, i know very well about that" on the internet is totally serious you ape. And yes, you can only deserve to talk to my ass and shit.

  • @CroissantOrange You have serious psycho problems. I suggest you seek professional help. You have been proven wrong by multiple people and all you can do is call names, attack, and say stupid things of which you have no idea. Do yourself a favor and get some help.

  • @MrChadbag How about you get some help with your "concept" and "idea" of using dumbfuck words? "Proven wrong by multiple people"? yeah, internet is full of genuine, insightful people that i should listen too. Like you? Who can even tell the same meaning of two different words? And those little egocentric insecure pieces of shit of drummers fucks who like to use 2 word for one thing to feel good about their worthless role in a band just because it's Hip? You all can die and I could'nt careless.

  • @CroissantOrange The expression is "couldn't care less." "Careless" is a different word.

  • @MrChadbag You want to sniff out my underwear too little doggie?

  • @CroissantOrange You've lost, ese. Face it.

  • @CroissantOrange No, it is not a drum machine. It is a set of drum sound modules triggered in real time, live, by the custom drum controller you see called the "Drumitar."

  • @CroissantOrange u might be an idiot...

  • A drumitar - originally Lee Ritenour's synthaxe - a midi controller guitar synthesizer co-opted by FutureMan to produce outstanding percussive expressions electronically - and with STYLE

  • 1:60 : what is ... well , who is that guy , what is he playing ? 'cause he totally rocks !

  • i just realized the drum machine-er guy (whatever he's playing) is wearing a starfleet uniform, a pirate hat, and a black kilt. lol so awesome.

  • What instrument is the pirate playing?

  • That's Futureman, and he's playing the drumitar. an instrument designed by himself

  • One word ....incredible! Must have been damn hot in there!

  • When was this footage shot? This looks like 1990ish.

  • @TheHimalayanGorilla its from 1993 :)

  • so awe..some the sound of music.

  • going to see them this weekend in vancouver! sooo excited!

  • Is futurama guy wearing a Star trek uniform ?

  • @Bartendertastic yeah fucking space pirates.... we dont take kindly lol

  • Bela and the Flecktones operate at an energy level most of us only dream about - like jon Mclaughlin and Mahavishnu you leave the vibrating noticably.. Note that the Wiltern is the perfect place to see them!

  • these guys can really play but i dont think any one showed them how to dress!lol

  • Oh my GOODNESS!!!!

  • @tvrulesnation, @jagedmonkeyz, FWIW, it´s called a Synthaxe. Originally designed back in the late 80´s or early 90´s, one of the major users was Allan Holdsworth, who primarily used it as a guitar synth controller. You fret with the left hand, and picked or plucked on 6 strings that were not connected to the neck at all. Futureman grabbed one, and put his special touches to it...and the rest is...history?

  • Comment removed

  • fucking solo at 3:34 makes you wanna go buy a banjo and learn it. goddam

  • ... did anyone else realize that Futureman is wearing a Starfleet Commander's Uniform? lol #nerdgasm

  • At 3:35 through the song, I started really watching the bassist and listening for the sound of his instrument. Why does talent like that go unremarked in so much of mainstream society, while whiny washouts like Bitchney Spears draw the media like maggots to a carcass?

  • @taterandmatt The people who know Victor Wooten's playing , and that would include pretty much every bass player in the US and Europe ( at least) love and respect his playing. when I am about to tell another bass player who my favorite electric bassist is, they usual just finish the sentence for me with "Victor Wooten, right?" And I am sure he is totally satisfied with that love and respect, and could care less about how many people don't know him.

  • Bela's dripping more sweat than someone who just went on a ten mile run through the Sahara.

  • LOVE THIs!!!!!!

  • I have just discovered Bela Fleck and I am so pleased that I did! I just wish I discovered him earlier in my life, truly amazing works!

  • I listen to this almost everyday driving to work. too fun to watch

  • WoW! Bela and the bassist have just way too much talent... amazin'!

  • Haha! Go Captain Futureman!

  • @madgameman1 dude he is MAJOR Futureman!

  • and there's Cleveland Brown again playing bass like hell

    Victor Wooten RULES!!!

  • geiler sound!

  • W Polsce może mało znani ale dla mnie to magia, fenomen muzyki, coś wspaniałego........

  • It is called the Drumitar Synthaxe and Futureman (Victor Wooten's brother) designed it.

  • Great Job! Bela ! and gang.

    Re-invetrers, Real talent, Real entertainment.

    What it is

    in my opinion

  • Comment removed

  • @shaungates Those aren't frets, they are lines on the fretboard

  • @shaungates you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to bass

  • @shaungates you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to bass

  • @shaungates ...Use your ears, not your eyes

  • i officially love irish music

  • Love it, but man would this jam benefit with some coffin sax. I can hear it in my head. Would really be able to place significant emphasis on certain notes throughout the the main riff of this song. Would make the whole thing sound much fuller and complete, but still sick.

  • @gitfiddler90 studio version has coffin in it, and yes I agree, having him in here as a little more of a dynamic to the song.

  • @gitfiddler90 Holy shit, I'd love that.

  • Madrigal at best! *****

  • wow, this is amazing

  • sickest jam ever

  • It really really really hurts everytime I recall how I just missed out on seeing this genius at Sydney Opera House a few weeks ago! Woe is me! Please come back Bela!!

  • it's nice to see victor play a 5 string bass you hardly ever see him with a 5 just a 4 string most of the time

  • Damn this band is so great, I need to get one of their records, but I wouldn't know where to look. Can somebody help me? Preferrably studio.

  • WOO Futureman's HAT

  • Bela Fleck-the John Tesh of bluegrass

  • Ma ould guitar....that you punted........

  • Best bass player

    Pat savage

  • could someone have gotten the gentlemen some towels...dripping. Wonder what the tunes were before this one...

  • super cool !!!!!

  • MY GOD those tripollettes at 4:59

  • @slickrick134 Agreed!

  • @slickrick134 It's spelled triplets

  • @slickrick134 It's triplets, please if you are learning music, please learn vocabulary first.

  • @orionzuhr1 Before harping on someone about vocabulary, you should get your shit straightened out as well. Your sentence should look like this, "It's triplets. Please, if you're learning music, learn musical vocabulary." Any problems? No? Good.

  • @GingerTheDrummer you sound like an ass too, grammar aside.

  • @spiderveloce I know, but your sounding like a hypocritical ass.

  • @GingerTheDrummer I think you meant "you're".

  • @spiderveloce My bad. You're starting to type like an adult now. I golf clap in your favor.

  • @slickrick134

    Tripolettes?? Triplets, you ass!

  • @slickrick134 Those would be sextuplets in the time they are playing in.

    :D

  • @slickrick134 Lol...triplets..

  • did bela actually compose this? the word 'medley' is throwing me off..

  • who dat gay azz pirate HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • futureman

  • the bass player is ictor wooten bro

  • The pirate is victor wooten brother, that i cant remember name right now! lol brutal his instrument! His invention... :) - Great musicians!

  • Futureman!!

  • fuckin idiot

  • lol The pirate is victor wooten (bass player) brother! lol brutal his instruments!! His invention! lol

  • victor is so insane with that fretless!

  • can someone for the love of God tell me what the crap the pirate looking dude is playing??!!!

  • custom drum machine!

  • @pntballfreek it's an instrument he invented called the Drumitar

  • @pntballfreek They called it the "Synthaxe Drumitar." Roy Wooten's persona was "Future Man." Check out "Flying Saucer Dudes" for an excellent example of the Drumitar at work. Saw them live in Lawrence, Kansas, back in the day, and they sounded exactly like the CD.

  • @pntballfreek It's something of his own creation called (I believe) a Drumitar. Coincidentally, that pirate dude is Victor Wootan's brother

  • @pntballfreek look up synthaxe drumitar

  • i saw them in Dublin last year, they were amazing!

  • Amazing... Victor brings the shit out of fretless basses too... jawdrop

  • Freaking amazing genes in that family! :)

  • That's RoyEl - Roy Wooten the Futureman

  • That drum-tar Victor's brother made is crazy... its definitely the most unique thing i've ever seen...

  • That's Victor's brother? I had no idea. But, I think he's got multiple ones. I've seen him in some other shows and I think he different ones, which just makes it even more awesome.

  • much of the wooten family has musical talent from watching interviews with victor, he's the youngest and all his brothers play something ... anyone correct me if i'm wrong i am by no means a wooten expert
