She accidentally pokes a dancer in the eye when she´s performing this. It´s that guy in the tree, when she is grabbing the tree.. Short after you can see that she gives the dancer a kiss as an apologie.. Haha, it was probably more than an apologie..
is that black and white material on her skirt the same the studio use for a dress made for something got to give???? chip studio after they made so much money with her. glad she opened her own production company.
Yeah people need to stop being dicks. She was supposed to have the image of a dumb blonde, but she wasn't happy with it. She was talented, don't you dare say she wasn't. She had it all.
@sugarbarre You are seriously uneducated about her then. I always thought she was overrated, primarily because of her image constantly everywhere and little teeny boppers constantly quoting her. However, because she was female as well as gorgeous, she was constantly used and did what they wanted her to do, until she finally left and started her own production company.

come on Lydia, Marilyn, slept her way to the top and she was a sex symbol... I like her but she was not a great acting talent. It was what it was, but she became an icon, in spite of it.
@Beatrice4664 Have you actually seen any of her films? Because it seems you don't know what you're talking about. Especially if you watch Bus Stop or even Don't Bother To Knock, one of her earlier films you can really see her talent.
@Beatrice4664 You must haven't seen Bus Stop or the Misfits then? Marilyn had the acting chops, that stuipid Darryl Zanuck didn't want to give her a chance and kept her in these cheesy musical comedies. She actually got tired, left hollywood and studied at the actors studio and made Bus Stop. Which to me is an excellent dramatic performance, rivaling many actresses including those like Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly who won an oscar for the country girl. smh Monroe was intelligent, her IQ:168
@Beatrice4664 do you know for a fact that she "slept her way to the top" or are you just so envious of her that you have to put her down to make yourself feel better. Marilyn played the character of a dumb blonde very well causing her to be cast. it does take a good amount of intelligence to play a dumb blonde because you need the right comedic timing to go along with it. also Bus Stop was amazing and she showed an incredible amount of range
@ClassyVintageBroad Having a cd of Marilyn's many self-sung film songs, I don't believe that she didn't sing this "Heat Wave" title song: her signature is all over it, only her voice and vocal mannerisms could have produced it. Can you post any "Dolores Gray" singing? If this is DG singing, she must have been a genius fast mimic of MM.
@JudgeJulieLit WHY INSTANT ? SHE WOULD HAVE HAD MONTHS TO PERFECT HER MONROE ISIMS. FILMS WERE PLANNED YEARS IN ADVANCE WITH RECORDINGS DONE MANY MONTHS BEFORE THE FILMING OR EVEN CASTINGS COMPLETED. IN FACT FILMS WERE PLANNED FOR MONROE WELL UP INTO 1966 INCLUDING THE ONE WHERE SHE AND DEAN MARTIM WOULD HAVE PLAYED HUSBAND AND WIFE IN THE ADVERTISING BUSINESS AND THE ONE WHERE MACLAINE KILLED OFF ALL HER HUSBANDS. DORIS DAY TOOK OVER MANY ROLES PLANNED FOPR MONROE
An absolute Genius is Miss Monroe! She knew when to play dumb, and knew when to show her brains. Her beauty was and is incandescent! All her film work is wonderful, from her fun comedy roles to her trumphant dramatic achievements. I will love her forever xx
Marilyn Monroe is a magnificent talent, a beautiful siren, and an inspirating muse with brains and charm, but she is also a mystery. I just wish i knew what happened to her, was she murdered, and if she was who did it and why? She was much to young!
I loved this movie and this scene! And Lady Gaga totally ripped it off for her performance of Alejandro on American Idol. The set design is a complete knock off.
compare this to betty grable doing a similer dance number in "Three for the Show" marilyns legs look fat and flabby, Marilyn just shuffles aound the stage were as Betty Grable dances with superior dexterity and Betty's Million Dollar Legs outshine Marilyns.
@gregwallasey You're blind if you think Marilyn's legs look flabby. Enjoy the talented Betty Grable all you want, but don't be insulting Marilyn. That's classless.
@b1kfd by the social standards of today.. marilyn monroe WOULD indeed be considered fat. Personally, i think she has a great figure, but I don't speak for the masses of sheep demanding "beauty" in the form of women who starve themselves and are still called fat.
Marilyn played a couple of excellent dramatic roles and she was astonishing in them! She is so breathtaking and gorgeous in this clip, generally in this film. It would be a lie for any female to say she wouldn't like to reflect a little of Marilyn in herself. Monroe is the ideal woman standard of all times! Wow!!
It makes me so desperately sad to see people insult Marilyn Monroe's acting abilities. 1) She was cast in cheesy, not-necessary-to-have-talent roles because the studies wanted her to be perceived as a dumb blonde, during the beginning of her career 2) Anyone who actually knows something about her knows that she left 20th Century Fox in 1955 and started her own production company because she wasn't happy with her career 3) Watch her last few movies. The Misfits is wonderful. She WAS talented.
@lydia232 Marilyn is my favorite actress! Bus Stop, The misfits and The prince and the showgirl were amazing! The reason why some people don't appreciate her as others, or see her talent, is because she was type cast. I bet alot of ppl posting comments don't know anything about her roles away from the dumb blonde.
@lydia232 Don't let HATERS get you down. They don't know talent if it fell out of the sky and landed on there heads. While Marilyn was alive Hollywood never appreciated her either. When MM was alive people on the 20th Fox lot made fun of her as MM walked by. Monroe got the last laugh though. I lived in Hollywood in the 1980's and 1990's you can't go anywhere in California especially Hollywood without seeing a Picture of MM. Anyone with any IQ can see & hear what a rare talent she was. MM =ICON!
@lydia232 I agree with you 100% Lydia. However, only shallow, jealous people who aren't comfortable with their own life have to find fault with someone else's to make themselves feel better. The good Lord gave Marilyn beauty, talent and an incredibly warm heart. My favorite movie is "Let's Make Love" because I love the character she plays in it, however, all her movies are thoroughly entertaining. Embrace your good feelings about her as she smiles on you when you do.
@lydia232 I love her performance in "the Misfits," to me that is the ultimate motion picture with one of the greatest and most talented casts in the history of film and cinema, but I absolutely loved her performance in "Bus Stop." She was sweet, charming, vulnerable, strong, and emotional at the same time and her close ups had such brilliance of depth. Also, have you seen "The Prince and the Showgirl?" Monroe practically wipes the great Sir Lawrence Olivier off the screen.
@lydia232 I would like to see those negative people do what she did. is not that easy to acquire the acting skill. Marylin was talented and beautiful stop hating ugly asses.

Marilyn Monroe's interpretation of Ethel Waters "Heatwave" is immortal. Lena Horne also took another Waters original song, "Stormy Weather" and made it immortal. Ethel Waters who began her career as Sweet Mama Stringbean introduced such classics as "Dinah" "Am I Blue" as well as "Stormy Weather" and "Heatwave." Remembered now for her immortal "His Eye Is On The Sparrow," when she was well into her 50's. People forget how many classic songs she actually originated. She was one of a kind.
Would you really have preferred to see Ethel Merman in that dress singing that song??? LOL Marilyn did a FINE job here. Ethel was well Ethel. Sought of like my mom but not as sexy,
Okay, as much as I love Ethel Merman, this kind of role wasn't meant to be sung particularly well. :p lol And... Ethel wasn't all that sexy in my opinion, but a damn fine singer and actress.
