Best thing about being a lifelong Beatles fan is the odd surprise now and again. Like this gem I never heard before right here. Seems there is enough great long lost stuff to last me well into my old age.
The true test of greatness is Time. What was definitive to ourselves, we find out was not, by watching one after another generation discover and identify with what we thought was ours alone. Simply because in one way or another, we happened to be there at the first... No. It is great. And it is timeless. It will last for always. Because they were great. They will always live, and will forever be beyond the shackles of time. Peace out
I grew up being a Beatles fan, or at least I thought so. I heard Beatles all day long for years and I still can't change the station or stop a cd that plays Beatles. Unlikewise many other great bands, I never had enough of Beatles songs and words. I now believe I am not a Beatles fan: I am still learning to become one and everytime I hear them it's like the fist time I ever heard them. After some 35 years of listening I feel I'm only starting.
I just can't get enough Beatles!!! Since I was in diapers I was a Beatles fanatic! But because I'm from the digital generation I've been able to hunt down these lost and forgotten treasures to share with Beatles fan everywhere..
All these lost songs should be shared and not forgotten!
@menoziinrevoltado If you watch the video clip of this scene, you'll see that McCartney says 'Obviously not' because George seems to ignore the question and carries on playing. It was a prompt to get him to answer rather than a bitchy comment.
It's from a bootleg called "Through Many Years" which consists of demos done by George, Ringo and various other musicians. As for a session name... I have no idea?
It's surprising...there's anbother clip pn youtube from the 1994 sessions where George talks about the song "DEHRA DUN" in front of Paul and Ringo. And they seem not to know the song.
@frankie1138 ....it's not a fake...the person who posted this video spliced video from the anthology with the actual outtake that George made on a different date.
@frankie1138 He started working on it in India shortly before the White Album sessions but didn't really finish it. He recorded it on his own sometime after he had already left the Beatles. That's why they didn't really remember it well...because they never recorded it with him.
@frankie1138 I think it's a good song with a catchy tune although toward the end it just kind of tapers off as if he hadn't finished it 100 percent. What do you think?
@pathoftruth1 Honestly, I think it's not his best song. In a full Beatles production with backing vocals, etc. it could have unfolded its full potential.
@frankie1138 I agree, it's not his best song. He had dozens of other songs that were better. It really sounded to me like he wasn't finished with it.
you are wrong the beatles ac tuallty did this song for the white album it was all electric guitar and proof of that is paul making the sounds of the electric guitar on the beatles anthology when george is singing it,u dont hear it hear cause he cuts it off before u hear paul do it but watch the video for proof.
Folks! That's my hometown, The beatles visited Dehradun during their trip to Rishikesh and wrote the song, as they were quite impressed by town's beauty and culture..thank you George for making my hometown immortal with a great song indeed... :)
this is interesting.. which album is it taken from - given that George said he had never ever recorded this speaking in 1995 on the Anthology, when did he actually record it?
George said in "Anthology" he had some unreleased songs and some that he had never recorded! - His memory failed him As we can hear here...
As far I know is Dehra Dun was recorded at the Abbey Road studios in 1969 and that George started writing it during the 1968 pre-White Album sessions in Rishikesh.
Playing on the track are George Harisson and Ringo Starr and It is believed to have been recorded just after the beatles break up and is still unreleased officially to this day....

This is fantastic. I think it's one of Harrison's loveliest songs. I really don't understand why this didn't make it on an album.

If George didn't remember recording it yeh I would say a 26 year old demo then in 95'
