The 2009 TED conference is happening in Long Beach - registration there is $6,000. The simulcast Palm Springs event costs $3,750.

Doing this conference in a poor town that needs the money would benefit everyone, just like the Olympics did for many poor cities.

TED is about ideas, not enviroement. Although obviusly it is one of the ideas it is not the main theme.
