8,000hp is 3 years ago. Just like muscle cars, there has been huge advances in produceable, useable power in the last few years. The last meet i was at this summer, the top cars claimed to be producing 15,000hp (August 2008) - i did not independently varify this, so it might be wrong. But i did varify that none of the 3 second cars were running 4 banger import engines. Didn't see any nukes either...

Grand Nationals are great you can pull so much power out of them with half the work you'd put on other cars,they really respond to bolt ons,there turbos a great,my friends charger only did low 12's but sounded like it,lopey idie and lopey idle at slow cruising.
The 87 Grand National was the fastest car GM built in the '80s. And if you don't think Turbo Buick V6s make any power, talk to the guy that supposedly built the engine in this car. He's famous for his work with Turbo Buicks.

no the cars original engine is long gone. Its a dettwiler built twin turbo V8. Comparing the twin 6 to this engine is like compareing a piper cub to concord.
And its mostly hype that the old V6 turbos were that fast. They where fast but not that fast. My uncle had both a WE2 and a WE4 for a while but he couldn't keep up with his brother in law's hot rodded mustang. Of course the vets they were producing at the time were pretty much crap so maybe there is some truth to the claim.
This car CAN cruise just like your 13 second srt-4, 12 second 350Z, or your 11 second Evo, then it will just shit on you in a drag race. That's the point...

i never said displacement is a horrible way. its more efficient to make it in a smaller motor. The last meet i was at this summer, the top cars claimed to be producing 15,000hp (August 2008) - i did not independently varify this, so it might be wrong. But i did varify that none of the 3 second cars were running 4 banger import engines. Didn't see any nukes either...

never seen a 3 second car. must be new too. and the number of cylinders is irrelavent. and your a fool if you believe they have 15000hp. i did a research paper on them a few years ago, and they didnt have the technology to put down anymore than about 8,000hp. in fact they had to reduce it a bit. they have the technology to run well over 8,000 but they dont need it. not when half cant get down the track without slipping. im not saying they COULD make 15,000hp but they dont need it.

You don't seem to be getting the point. Anyone can build any engine to produce a lot of HP, but if you want big HP that is civilized and will last, it does not come from an import. Ever seen an import on Pinks All Out? No, cause they don't last three runs down the track if they are 900hp. It's almost entirely BB Chevy's. BB Chevy dragsters make as much as 15,000hp - they are not what I'm talking about - they do not last and can't be street driven.

If you're talkin about top fuel NHRA dragsters, you're way off the reservation buddy. Those cars make more like 4000-4500hp, and all those motors are hemi's. People say they are Fords or Chevys but that just depends on the body shell(if it's a funny car that is). All NHRA top fuelers and funny cars sport a Hemi under the hood.

How long will a 200hp gsr run? try 5,000 miles, then throw it in the garbage. Its not even remotely in the same league. There are 15,000hp big block Chevy's that only make three passes down the drag strip before rebuilding. For actual car driving its high horse big block chevy or nothing.

My Mom has blinkers. The difference between a 1.8L that puts out 900hp and my 8.9L (540) that puts out 900hp+ is that I drive my Chevy35 miles to and from work every day - it's reasonbly civilized. are you saying a guy with a honda with 800hp cant drive to work also? you do realize that with a turbo, if your not spooling, then the car acts like the power output = to n/a. so a 800whp civic not spooling would drive like a 230hp civic. it could be tuned to get over 30mpg on normal driving, and still have a power to tw ratio = to 2 times your horrible breathing v8. you dont need 8 cylinders to make power.

no the cars original engine is long gone. Its a dettwiler built twin turbo V8. Comparing the twin 6 to this engine is like compareing a piper cub to concord.
And its mostly hype that the old V6 turbos were that fast. They where fast but not that fast. My uncle had both a WE2 and a WE4 for a while but he couldn't keep up with his brother in law's hot rodded mustang. Of course the vets they were producing at the time were pretty much crap so maybe there is some truth to the claim.
