@jrichca most local group have loaner armor you can train in until you build your armour. You can get armoured up for less than $500. Build up your kit piece by piece. Before you know it, you wont have any loaner gear on you and will be fighting in your own kit you can make most of the armour.
This is SCA combat a full contact sport. I'm 35 now. When I was 16 I dropped all regular sports in favor of this one. The kinds in my highschool thought I was nuts. Now they are in their late 30s and the closest they get to their sports is perhaps pick up games until their fat asses get too winded or watching men more than a decade younger than them in tight shiny pants chase balls on TV. Their chance for glory is gone. I pitty them.
SCA is recreation of historical medieval warfare. There is no wizards, or fantasy world. It's a huge camping event where we beat the fuck out of each other until we can't take it anymore purely for entertainment of medieval warfare reinactment.

4. SCA is NOT a LARP. Larpers use foam swords. Even though the ones used in this video are not metal swords, they will hurt you all the same.
