Probably is going downhill. There is no other explanation. I have 2.0 HDI it can go on 3,2 l/100km but only if the road is horizontal with no uphills and if the speed is constant.

Lupo is still faster and more efficent. 196 km/h (GPS) with 7.5 l/100.

The Pedal to the metal..... our fueloil (like diesel is blue) but I burn normal diesel -the compagny pays ;-)

As you say your real average is 5.2L/100km which is pretty good for a family car. My father has the same engine in his 307 1.6HDI but rarely gets better than 50 mpg. And one of my friends 2 year old Picasso HDI just had a head gasket failure which cost over £1000 to repair. So far the PD VW engines are more economical but noiser than HDI.

I have been beating this car (not when cold) for 125000 kms now and have´nt had any technical problems at all. I once had a Citroën Jumpy 1,9 TD everything was wrong with this car !!!

I am for modern diesels like the HDI. But i don't accept as accurate the indicated consumption figures displayed. The only way to truly test consumption is to measure number of litres added at filling and make sure next trip is filled the same. Then with km driven you get a true ltrs/100km or MPG.

That´s right ! I normally fill up the tank (55-60 litres) after 950 - 1100 km -quite good.

- Fantastic.... Dieselcars theese days are great ! I must admit that my general average is about 5.2 L / 100 km - But it is also my work-car so maybe the accelerator is pushed a bit more than normal !
