I think the line "mother i cant help think of you" is about Rob's wife, Jan, who was pregnant with their first child when he died. Keorz, maybe that's what you meant?
I am reading "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer about the Everest expedition that ended in Rob Hall's death. This song definitely captures the sad, lost feeling that was felt that night. It's a beautiful tribute sung in an achingly beautiful voice.
this song is actually about Rob Hall who died on Mount Everest in 1996, not about neil himself or his mother. Im assuming "mother i cant help think of you" is what he thinks one of Rob's last thoughts were. Beautiful song.
A special tribute to a great Man =)

And so he came, (at the end- Eddie Vedder); who wouldn't?! Playing with Neil Finn's a rare privilege! The Climber's another excellent N.F. song.
