Sonic was made weaker in SSBB because he would be too strong and that Nintendo wanted Mario to be stronger. Sonic was supposed to have his Homing Attack WAY stronger than that. I once faced 3 levels 9 marios and on my friends copy they team you even when they aren't on teams and i managed to beat them all after a few tries,but when i put them on teams i got wrecked(i managed to eliminate 1). And then after that it became easy facing level 9 without using my best characters(link,kirby,sonic,ma­rio,luigi, and Game and Watch)

The reason Mario wins in these is because Mario's supposed to be in the thick of it in Brawl. The CPU doesn't understand that Sonic is better suited to hit and run. A good sonic player can annihilate pretty much anyone.
