i had 3 weeks of boxing practice and my trainer makes me sparr this guy whos wayy more experienced and he doesnt even tell me before the sparring session turns out i got my ass handed but i felt this whole thing was planned out i felt like he used me as a human punching bag for his other more experienced student.. pissed me off
@BekBud1 Give him a low kick. Bullox to treat beginners like that. In any sparring match there are 2 parties that need to learn. If somebody would do that over here he'd be doing push ups on his eyeballs till the end of the year.
On-topic: great vid as usual! Please post more :)
I agree with "SouthpawJonJon" ... I appreciate you technical tutorials as well and I am also a Muah Thai practitioner whom recently start formal boxing training!
I sincerely appreciate your technical tutorials. I'm predominately a Muay Thai/MMA practitioner and have never had any formal boxing training, and your videos are immensely helpful/simple. If I may make a request, perhaps tips for southpaw fighters? Given you know of any :) thanks in advance and much appreciated.
@Manveet My thoughts exactly. Thanks to the more experienced cats who pitch in to the newer guys with advice. I'm glad this resource exists. I wish I had had it when learning.
haha You're in my head Albert pope thanks a lot for the video.
Just in the last training i sparred with a friend who pointed out i cant slip to the left. I spent 2-3 hours this week in front of the mirror to learn the move and it started making some sense. I got a bit used to the footwork but i can't really tuck my chin in my right shoulder consistenly.
(should i train static or always with the left step forward , what's your opinion?)
@albertpope Say i train with a guy with mitts. Should i train the slips statically (feet not moving, mayweather style) or always in a full motion with stepping out of the punch as well (like you show in the video). Whats the best way to turn this move into a habbit?
@arikat1 It really depends on you. I do both. Often it will depend more on your exact position with respect to your opponent. Your feet should adjust in order to put you in the right position to land the counter punch. Sometimes you won't need to move, sometimes you might a tiny adjustment, sometimes you have to take a step-replace. It will all happen fast. Your hand speed is limited by your foot speed.
@albertpope hey albert, i've been going to a couple different gyms (LA Boxing franchise, just different locations) and one of the trainers at one of them teaches to block/fade over slipping. I am taught to slip at the other locations (both statically and with a side step) but when I was sparring last weekend, I noticed with some fighters I am not fast enough to slip their punches, even when i read the shoulders for the cue of the next punch. Do you find it effective to keep (continued....)
@albertpope ...(continued) ...a high gaurd on your face, and go for block, with a fade, or shift of the hips just enough to miss that punch, at the same time? I just find that i'm not yet quick enough to try to slip straight punches, or bob and weave hooks, when it comes to sparring with good fighters. thanks
Do You have some kind of gym or training facility where you offer classes?

@arikat1 what do you mean by left step forward?
Practice slipping to both sides.
Stick to the left foot forward if you are right handed.
