This is full of wrong, this was hella impressive for 1939 and it along with Fleischers other work is still quite impressive today, especially the little effects (lighting), the high amount of detail put into the backgrounds and the very ahead of its time use of rotoscoping, which the Fleischers also used to great effect in their Superman shorts.
Gulliver's Travels was a hit at the time this came out. It was the next Fleischers animated feature "Mr. Bug Goes to Town" (which flopped at the box office) that cause the Fleischer Studios to go out of business.
Mr.Bug Goes to Town was released the second week of December,1941-when we had just gotten into WW II.few were in the mood to see funny cartoon movies then.
the Fleischer brothers had already been well known for, like, Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, and Popeye. but, i didn't realize Paramount didn't really promote Gulliver's Travels back in those days. =S
Anyone else want to play the Song of the Roustabouts when they're tying GUlliver up?

Start your torch, mount your horse!
Screw your courage to the sticking place!
We're counting on Gabby to lead the way!
Through a mist, through a woods,
There exists a massive giant
Which is something that you don't see every day!
