  • And to think that sometime I worry about making the pit from the 40 board...

  • god this jump is beautiful

  • 18.29 en 1995

  • That was massive!

  • He almost jumped over sand field. :D

  • I remember watching that jump and was like WTF just happend there.

  • The fact that no-one has even gotten close to Edwards' best, is testament to how awesome he was. Argualbly a better record then Bolt's 9:58 in the 100m.

  • Hard to think the 0.4m over made enough difference for this not to be the longest jump in history by a mile if the wind was legal.

  • @MatttHa its a 13m board sooo its like 42'10

  • johnathan edwards. legend. end of story. guy took the event to new heights. and proved it was no fluke

  • king of triplejumper!

  • Wind assisted jump.

  • WTF?? How the hell did that happen....

  • the line should be taken furter back, so that his second phase can go another meter or so...

  • @raffyownage, yeah. but 40 ft boards are the farthest that high schools, colleges, and pro levels go from.

  • @MatttHa no in my city, our university uses 36, and 42 foot boards...

  • @raffyownage I know it looks like he's cutting into his second phase to make sure he doesn't land in the sand, but I can assure you that he isn't. I'm almost certain that 40 ft boards are NOT the limit to the distance they can jump from. His bringing his leg down like that was just part of his own unique form.

  • @raffyownage a meter is a long way so thats sayin alot

  • 6.50m hop, 5.60m step, 6.33m jump (from ATFS Annual)

  • Perfect form, just beautiful

  • All his phases are sick lol

  • Wow, amazong jump! But why isn't this the world record? too much wind?

  • @adistarhj too much wind :*(

  • @adistarhj illegal wind aid

  • @adistarhj yea I believe it was a 2.2 or 2.3 m/s wind and of course the allowable limit is 2.0 m/s

  • @RoStGePe 2.4 to be exact

  • @adistarhj yep thats what commentor says

  • @adistarhj wind assisted

  • @adistarhj Yes, sir; the wind speed (when Jonathan Edwards jumped 18.43m) was 2.4 metres per second - if my memory serves me correctly. That is marginally over the 'legal' limit, for the purposes of official records (national, continental, world, etc). Nevertheless, it was patently obvious to knowledgeable athletics pundits - in June 1995 - that Mr Edwards was destined to break the world record for the triple jump. As a matter of fact, he broke the WR three times (later on that summer).

  • @adistarhj Mike Conley beat the record.

  • @jojo24love Mike Conley did NOT beat the record and never held the record

  • @adistarhj i assume it was a foul jump.. he put his hands on his head seemingly in despair

  • His first phase was SICK. Wow.

  • I can imaging if there was a 15metre board now!!!
