There's a reason why the right to bear arms is the SECOND Ammendment. The Founding Fathers were thinking about how citizens could protect their rights in the First Ammendment and what would be the best way. Then they remembered the colonists protected their rights from a tyrannical government with guns NOT laws or politics or talking it over some tea and cookies.

I don’t own a gun; however I will like to have the right to have one. To me is the same right to own anything else, because is a free country but you can’t use a dangerous thing without the proper training, (cars, explosives, hazmat trucks, radioactive materials, viruses, etc) so I will like to have a system that provides you with that training before you can use that gun. Look at the real history and you will see that the Nazis allowed concealed carrying of licensed handguns to its citizens, who, in 1919, had been denied the right to own any weapons. @0olon By the way, tyranny doesn't always come in the form of something like the Nazi Regime. Take a look at Mexico, and the way that the police operate there! They take whatever they want from whomever they please, with no consequence, because they know the people can do nothing without guns. A person's feelings about guns stem from things that happen in their lives. I've been a victim of armed robbery twice in New York City where it is nearly impossible to obtain a gun permit. The only way to protect these innate rights is written of in the Second Amendment. Without the Second Amendment, the rest of the Constitution might as well not even be there.

there are only 50 kid related (under 10) deaths a year from gun accidents. A child is more likely to die from drowning in a bathtub, or pool. Or playing on a parents bed or riding a bike. Guns are only scary in the hands of criminals, if you ban guns then only criminals have them. Countries that have totally banned guns have seen spikes in their crime rates, while states with easy ccw laws and defense rights have relatively low crime rates.
I hate to say this, but don't bother. These anit-gun liberal zombie whores cannot do anything beyond understand what their paymasters in the media tell them. We can shovel documents with the truth in their face all day long and still they will swear guns are bad in the hands of citizens.
They forget that a disarmed populace led in significant part to the totalitarianism of Nazi Germany. I don't think American wants to follow that path, but it appears that is the direction we are headed.
You can make a correlation like that from more or less anything. If I wanted to I could state the link between corn and Nazi's (i honestly could) and I'm actually pretty certain corn played a bigger role than armed civilians. You people will look for any possible link, you really will.
I guess it cuts both ways then, when the hard-number evidence points to the fact that a weapon in the home does far more good than presents hazard to kids, people still swear that it is unjustly bad and should be banned.
I respectfully ask one thing of you: do not force your belief on myself or others. Just because you do not believe in civilians owning guns does not mean you are justified in disarming us. For people like me, who live out in nowhere-ville, a gun is the only defense I have.
There is always exceptions, you are one of them. So I don't see why USA can't be like the UK in that respect, apply for a special licence to own a gun. It's much harder over here to own one legaly and I think the US should follow the lead. People like you, yes admitedly, could benefit from a gun. But a father in the suburbs does not, a security alarm is proven a better deterent in the suburbs than a gun. It's a risk to his children on top of a million others.

There's a reason why the right to bear arms is the SECOND Ammendment. The Founding Fathers were thinking about how citizens could protect their rights in the First Ammendment and what would be the best way. You'd be wrong. At the time that the Constitution was ratified, until 1934, civilians were able to obtain BETTER arms than were issued to the infantryman. Those Revolutionary War rifles were CIVILIAN weapons.

I don’t own a gun; however I will like to have the right to have one. To me is the same right to own anything else, because is a free country but you can’t use a dangerous thing without the proper training, (cars, explosives, hazmat trucks, radioactive materials, viruses, etc) so I will like to have a system that provides you with that training before you can use that gun. There are far more voters alive today than were involved in setting up the constitution, and the voters today have the added benefit of not being dead. @0olon The point of the Constitution is not to play a leadership role, or to tell what is legal, it's to set a bedrock for what humans' rights are, not only as "non criminals" but as HUMAN BEINGS. Hitler was elected by the people of Germany. His first order of business was to take away the guns from the people. Therefore, the only thing jews could do to try to end the terror was to comply with military police. Do you want your government to have that kind of power over its people?

Thanks for the timeline correction, but that FIVE YEAR difference doesn't change the fact that Hitler was the first regime to ever impose gun registration on its citizens, which eventually led to confiscation. Okay, so five years after taking power, Hitler disarmed NOT ONLY the Jews, but anyone who wasn't a part of the Nazi military. Are we in agreement about that much?

@outkasst88 You claimed it was the first thing the Nazis did. Not even close! It wasn't even the first thing they did AFTER getting rid of all opposition parties. Wrong. Big time. It wasn't even the first GERMAN gun restrictions, those began in 1919. Britain was licensing guns from 1870 and many other states had earlier laws restricting weapons. Hitler did not disarm ordinary Germans, no, Nazis could keep weapons easily but other Germans could have them if they registered.

It removed rifles and shotguns from regulatory control completely, lowered the minimum age to own a firearms permit from 20 to 18 and extended the terms of the permits from one year to three. You have been lied to. Ask yourself why it would be in some people's interests to associate gun control with Nazis. This information is not hidden, just look beyond propaganda sites.

@outkasst88 There is not divided information, there is accurate information and there is deliberately spread disinformation. Look at the real history and you will see that the Nazis allowed concealed carrying of licensed handguns to its citizens, who, in 1919, had been denied the right to own any weapons. They disarmed the Jews and those they conquered, the reasons why are obvious, but you can't use that as a precedent to say all gun control is a preliminary to tyranny, that is clearly nonsense.

@0olon Of course tyranny hasn't happened in every instance of gun control. My point is that gun control is definitely necessary for tyranny to occur. Also, why shouldn't an individual be allowed to defend themselves? As I mentioned before, I was cornered by three guys in a subway station, and if I had a gun with me, I definitely would have been able to fend them off. Instead I got tazered and they beat the shit out of me.

@0olon I agree with democrats on some issues, but it's so painfully clear that the they're using the general public's lack of knowledge, and/ or fear of guns to make ridiculous laws which make it impossible for an individual to defend him/ herself against an attacker. Isn't it obvious that a crazed man with a gun is less likely to attack a group of people he knows is armed, and that that same man would only be encouraged to shoot in a "Gun Free Zone", knowing that everyone there is helpless?

@outkasst88 America should abolish the second amendment and face up to the reality, that it is a culture which has grown up with guns and is safer with guns than disarmed. Guns are a part of America and they are not going to go away. The second amendment should be replaced by a modern right for the citizen of good character to own weapons appropriate for personal use which does not imply or state that they should be able to go toe-to-toe with the government and police.

@outkasst88 I have one view which is different from yours, on the second amendment, you see it as the source of everything wonderful in America, no other country has ever decided to copy it despite countries copying almost every aspect of your constitution. I do not seek to abolish the second amendment in order to ban guns but in order to replace it with a better worded and more effective right to own weapons without reference to militias.

@0olon By the way, tyranny doesn't always come in the form of something like the Nazi Regime. Take a look at Mexico, and the way that the police operate there! They take whatever they want from whomever they please, with no consequence, because they know the people can do nothing without guns. Mexico is actually a great example of government tyranny that could be decreased if the people were allowed to have guns.

A person's feelings about guns stem from things that happen in their lives. I've been a victim of armed robbery twice in New York City where it is nearly impossible to obtain a gun permit. Therefore I was unable to defend myself. One was by three men armed with knives and electric tazer devices. Perhaps if I had a gun I wouldn't have been assaulted.

@0olon @outkasst88 (...continued) The constitution doesn't "give" you the right to bear arms, or to freedom of speech, etc. It is there to remind the people of the innate rights that we already have as a human beings, that should never be taken away by the government. The only way to protect these innate rights is written of in the Second Amendment. Without the Second Amendment, the rest of the Constitution might as well not even be there.

@SpannTV Reagan used to be a Democrat until he realized the Democrat party had strayed from America's founding principles. Nixon never banned guns to my knowledge. As for Guiliani, I like the guy on some issues (Nat'l security) but he's a RINO on others. @mwernimont I'm aware that Ronald Reagan used to be a Dem. But he switched to the GOP in 1962, and as Gov. of California he signed the Mulford Act of 1967 which banned open carry of loaded firearms in that state. He was a Republican when he signed that into law. In 1991 he said in a speech that he Supported the Brady Bill and urged the Congress to pass it. Granted, Nixon didn't ban guns. But he is on record calling gun an "abomination"

there are only 50 kid related (under 10) deaths a year from gun accidents. A child is more likely to die from drowning in a bathtub, or pool. Or playing on a parents bed or riding a bike. Guns are only scary in the hands of criminals, if you ban guns then only criminals have them. Countries that have totally banned guns have seen spikes in their crime rates, while states with easy ccw laws and defense rights have relatively low crime rates.

They forget that a disarmed populace led in significant part to the totalitarianism of Nazi Germany. I don't think American wants to follow that path, but it appears that is the direction we are headed.

I guess it cuts both ways then, when the hard-number evidence points to the fact that a weapon in the home does far more good than presents hazard to kids, people still swear that it is unjustly bad and should be banned.
I respectfully ask one thing of you: do not force your belief on myself or others. Just because you do not believe in civilians owning guns does not mean you are justified in disarming us. For people like me, who live out in nowhere-ville, a gun is the only defense I have.

There is always exceptions, you are one of them. So I don't see why USA can't be like the UK in that respect, apply for a special licence to own a gun. It's much harder over here to own one legaly and I think the US should follow the lead. People like you, yes admitedly, could benefit from a gun. But a father in the suburbs does not, a security alarm is proven a better deterent in the suburbs than a gun. It's a risk to his children on top of a million others.

Licensing is registration and registration is the first step to confiscation, im 18 years old and i own 7 firearms and the only license i posses is the little pink card saying im allowed to conceal my pistol anywhere i go, and i live in the suburbs myself, a security system is just bells and whistles with the police 15 minutes away, ive used my pistol to deter violators near my home, yes a system is beneficial but its sure not a fail safe, no offense or disrespect was intended here

Gun control kills kids....They are kept from guns and thus, gun safety. This causes curiosity wich leads to accidents. If your cousin was taught properly , he/she would certainnly be alive now! Kids in school are killed all the time, because it is simply illegal to protect them from criminals, and illegal for them to protect themselves... A criminal could easily shoot the guard at a metal detector, or run through it shooting many many people most shooters dont expect to or want to survive anyhow

you make it sound like thousands of kids die every year from accidents. the reason there are some accidents is because people dont properly secure their firearms if they have kids and secondly kids are not taught about guns. they are told they are scary and not to touch them. anyone that knows kids knows that if you tell them not to touch something the first thing they do is go and touch it. kids need to be taught about guns and what to do if they see one.

I'm a Soldier in the US Army and we have guys that sometimes clean their guns and forget to unload them. Sometimes there is friendly fire in war as well. So you're saying we should ban guns in the military because of an extremely small statistic of accidents? More training, more care, not an outright ban. Our rights, heritage, history, liberty, and freedom is at stake. The Bill of Rights is too important to me to advocate the destruction of it like you do. God Bless America
