This may be a dumb question, but does amount of power from the stereo matter? I have a big 200 watt receiver and I plan on trying to go directly from the receiver speaker wires to the relay and so on. Will that work if the volume is cranked up (to play music on other speakers) or will it damage the relay?
Specifications:Input Circuit- Control Voltage Range: 3- 32V DC- Control Current: 15mA Max- Min. turn off voltage: 1V DC- Input Resistance: 2.2kohm min. Output Circuit - Max load current: 3A- Nominal Line Voltage: 240V AC - Load Voltage Range: 24- 280V AC- Min. Blocking Voltage: 600V AC - Max one- cycle surge current: 80A- Min. Load current: 50mA - Dimensions:10(D) x 42(W) x25(H)mm.
if i put more amps on the circuit (say a 10 amp relay) then would that destroy the line in source of were the music comes in? If i hook it up to my ipod does that mean that im getting 10 amps coming into my ipod of 10 amps going to the christmas lights? Please help i dont want to break my ipod or anything valuable!!
Can you tell me how to add own music to Mr.Christmas with the 6 plug outlets with lights and sounds of Christmas with 20 songs? I'd like to play own music off from a stereo tape recorder. I tried to connect wires while playing tape to and extension speaker, but no luck. ca_gibbons@msn.com . I'd really like to play Boney M christmas songs on my Mr.Christmas lights and sounds of Christmas.
An easier (and safer) way to do this is to simply cut both ends of a light strand, solder one end to speaker wire, and hook that end up to a stereo system.
Using my home stereo and a string of 110 Christmas Lights (small sized bulbs). I cut off the male end and connected to the two speaker wires on the back of my stereo. My lights did not light at all. There is not enough current coming from the speakers to the Christmas lights.
If you wanted to do this manually then you would use a switch to turn the lights on and off to the beat WITH YOUR HANDS. The relay (big black part) is a switch that uses the music signal (where used to be the speaker) to decide when to turn the lights on or off INSTEAD OF YOU WITH YOUR HANDS. So the excess power cord sends electricity to the relay and the relay sends that electricity to the lights.
i love the idea but i do plan to modify a bit like using an outlet socket instead of an adapter, using only one power cord by adding a second circuit to the original cord powering both the speakers and lights, and working on a way to leave the working speaker in there as well. wish me luck =^.^=
this is kinda a unsafe way of doimng it- first the relay you have isnt rated high enough (amps) to hadle a large load- so at most you might be able to do like 1-2 stings of lights- second- you need to cover your connetions- instead to the adapter - use a extention cord end- third GROUND THE DAMN THING!!!! When ever you are dealing with mains electricity always ground EVERYTHING! so instead of using a 2 prong cord use the 3 prong (the 3 prong is GROUND) and then make sure it is all grounded...
can i use normal speaker cable send to splits so i can run this and my speakers?
i wouldn't want to loose sound quality and assume the power for the lights are taken from the wall outlet and not the speakers themselves and that they simply work as a trigger, am i correct?
How do you do this for a car? Because I was not smart enough just to buy the sound sensative lights themselves and was wondering if there was a cheap, fun way to make any light sound sensitive with 12 volts. please help...maybe it is exactly the same just using 12v power instead of 110v???
I'm curious why that D2W203F is a 2A when the ones I've seen are 3A. You can also use a KB20C03A which is pretty much the same thing. 3 Amps is the draw you would get from 900 standard 2.5v mini-bulbs. Most strings of Christmas lights have 100-150 bulbs for about $15.
Also, the circuitry from the speakers is pretty much only working as a pre-amp. Most line-out jacks are only about 6v at best and headphone jacks tend to give no more than 2.85v, but the relay takes a minimum of 3v.
This is great for Halloween too. If you have one of those cheap light up jack o lanterns hook that up and get a sound file of talking or someone telling scary story so that the jack o lantern will light up with every word so it looks like it is talking.
You could burn your house down. That relay is too small only 2A. Second it should be soldered to a board. You need a RIB relay rated for at least 15A. You can buy kits that use microprocessors to control it. Don't listen to that dude. People with a little knowledge are dangerous.
@BlasterMaster5 And is that like 36 gauge or something wire he's using on a household 120v circuit? Scary!!!!! Wait till that relay goes south and burns up his stereo/computer ect...
Im having a few problems...i have it all setup and working, only problem is the lights dont flash constantly to the beat. the volume is turned right up on my laptop and my speaker...both power cords are plugged in and turned up. i have a 3amp solid state relay...dont you think i need a bigger wattage amp to power the lights as these speakers i have have gotta be like 10 watt?
You just need to look at the relay and see what its rated at. Add up all your lights wattage or amps, and keep it at or below that! Basically a relay is a electro-magnetic switch. It will fail if you pull too much current through the switch side of the relay. Trial and error works too. just buy some extra relays.
(i hate to sound mean but i just want to point out somethings) another thing you might want to add to it, or to find out is, does it matter whether the pc speakers have the ampliflier circuit built into it, or is a pc speaker that gets the power from the computer... it does make a difference!
also you might want to add some heat shrink tube on the exposed soldered leads, and to the power adapter. 3A max, i think for the triac. I do give you a great deal of credit though! Ive seen diagrams explaining how to do this, and youve just made the video so easy for a person with the least amount of knowledge of electronics or electricity! Ive added it to my favorites!
