love this album, reminds me of driving my mother to grocery store a year out of high school....joined the army 2months later! may she rest in peace!!!!!
Back inda day music 80s and 90s music in particular it was in my opinion just betta than what I hear onda radio now and Im sure da majority over 25 can agree it just dont capture me like songs during dat time period did everything mostly everything I cop now is olskool maybe its cause Im gettin older or da music was simply betta or I just know real music when I hear it and dis is what I call real music not 2 hate on 2days music but man dey just dont make songs like dey used 2.
Due to the record biz recession from fall 1979 to the release of THRILLER December 1, 1982, FACES didn't do as well as it should have because it was a double album in a single album world. Lots of good stuff on that album however. Future Tony nominee composer Brenda Russell (The Color Purple) co-wrote this gem.
This has got to be one of my favorite tracks by EW&F, and there are many, but it's something about this one. It has all of the elements you became use to when hearing this iconic band, excellent musical arrangements, an infectious groove, and their signature harmonious and soulful vocals. This track is nearly three decades old and it still touches me the way it did in 1980 the very first time I heard it, this is just simply high end music from one of the most dynamic bands in our lifetime, WOW!!
I never even heard this album before. I loved EWF from the time Gratitude and That's the Way of the World came out in the mid-70s, I've seen them 7 or 8 times (though sadly only once with Maurice), but somehow I never heard this album. See how much great music they made? I have several albums by them, including the Essential EWF, but I still find great stuff on Youtube that I've never heard before. This album and the Keep Your Head to the Sky album are the next two I'll be buying. Thanks EWF!
yes nicely put i played in a 7 piece horn band from 76 to 82 and we did a few of their songs, not easy to duplicate. but clearly nothing compares and it has the same magic as 80 and lives on and on. maurice white was terrific. each and every song on both faces and in the stone were magical and ingenious compositions.
Faces was the last great EWF Lp ... when Al McKay left, he took something with him ... they were never the same after this LP ... if Charles Stepney would have lived and guitarist Al McKay stayed, no telling how long they would have ruled ...
Such an under-appreciated album...although it does not have that "progressive" sound found in 1970-1979 albums, the MESSAGE of the song is PRIME EWF ! A LIFE-LONG EWF FAN...
Fantastic unique stuff this is. Typically EWF, but in this album they have again a unique sound. This has never been done again! I play it at least once every month for the past 28 years...
Thanks, funkproject for this rendering. One of my best friends back in the day had this LP and we played the grooves off of it. Phil on vocals, Virdine thumping the bass, Larry jamming the boards, Phenix horns laying down the awesome rhythm, EWF was from just this side of heaven.
It's the message that's alluminated!!

Check out Zanzibar everybody.

If you like Zanzibar, then you are a musician. That is one of the baddest songs of the 70's. It never gets radio play, though.

I know many will disagree with me but today's music just doesn't carry the same kind of magic of songs like this.
"...Oh I.." was one of my favorite parts to Imerica.
