Right, he's half Scottish, half German, from Queens. His Glasgow-born mum died just a few years ago, she was in her 100s. He still did a bad Scottish accent in this skit, but chalk it up to the character he was playing has lived in the US for many years.
A guy I work with remembers his father's bakery in Astoria, Queens; which he still operated for quite a few years after his son became famous
I spent a week circa Christmas/New Year's/Hogmanay in the Garnethill area of Glasgow in 1997/98, at a hostel full of drunk Aussie/Kiwi backpackers. I remember that I was terribly sick with bronchitis, flu, or something nasty, constantly coughing yet smoking pack after pack of cigarettes, and just drinking, drinking (something I didn't do at home). I was 27, had never really traveled much on my own and I traveled for about 6 weeks around Britain after losing a job.
@mj0sefs0n Most Americans don't know anything about Wales except sheep shagging and being England's retarded neighbour. (At least, that's the stereotypes we hear over here.)
@mj0sefs0n lol, perhaps so. I'm also American, but I watch a lot of English/U.K. movies and tv shows, so my info on Wales comes from those. Never been there, though.
How does he do a great Scottish accent in Shrek but a crap one here? Walken is one of my very favourite actors, but he was obviously reading autocue or something here. Too noticeable. Still one of my favs tho.
Brings back memories of the men in my family. After a few bevvies, they'd be arguing and ready to pick a fight. Then all of a sudden, they'd be singing together, spouting how great each other was.............great times!
The sketch is too long, which is probably why it was canned, but it does capture the the binary emotions of many Scots [I'm Scottish]. Myers grew up in a place with Scots migrants and he's nailed the phrases if not the accent. Check out his film 'So I Married An Axe Murderer'. He based the main characters on people he knew back home. Christopher Walken's mother was Scottish, even if his accent isn't and his 'Wee Man' rings true. I wouldn't essay a Queen's accent so well done by him.
@joeblow238 If it's a prime example of an archetypal Glaswegian accent that's required to study, the perfect model is perhaps spoken by the character "Rab C. Nesbitt", played by Gregor Fisher. As a Scotsman, I must admit that is uncannily good!
If you watch enough of Mike Myers' sketches, and his movies, you see how he tried bits out on SNL and reused them in the movies. The joke about Scottish cuisine being based on a dare turns up in "So I Married an Axe Murderer", too.
@theBaron0530 I've noticed that too. On Netfilix that you stream, they've got all of the 90's Saturday Night Live's, and I think it was the Wayne's World opening sketch when Micheal Jordan was hosting, and Mike Myers said someone had, "A huge melon! It's so big its got its own weather system!" (loose translation), which, as you probably know, he later used in "So I Married an Axe Murderer".
Does anyone know if this ever aired? This is the exact same script that was done with Kyle McLaclan because that one did air around '96 or '97. I can't imagine they did the same script twice.
What is Christopher Walken looking at the whole time?
captainironears 1 day ago
This is like the exact same skit they had in the 1990 season. Except with Kyle McLaughlin instead of Christopher Walken.

I just remember being sick and drunk and sitting in that hostel's lounge, watching the Teletubbies.

Some people want young white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very small sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.
If you click on my name “awhitesoul2012” highlighted in blue below this comment, you can watch my video.
Thanks.

Hey, Rich,
this dress rehearsal didn't air, but indeed this skit was retooled, the script
was brought down (there was no excessive flirting between Angus and Hillary),
and it was done with Kyle MacLachlan in 1990 (Mike Myers left SNL in 1995)!
And thank God for MacLachlan for making this skit as memorable line-by-line
as Monty Python's "Argument Clinic". Walken is a great actor and he performed
the accent well, but on this particular one, it just didn't work.
