  • I am having problems with the web interface. When I try to restart the hard drive it doesnt restart. The progress bar freezes when it is close to completing the restart. Any tips?

  • I just purchased this today from Currys for £39 :D

  • @waynetravis That is a bargain :)

  • @waynetravis i just purchased it with $3

  • Thanks Dave for accepting my video of iomega NAS as a video response.

  • @geekyranjit It is a great video, very impressed.

  • @davomrmac: thanks again for your words of appreciation...... I watch a lot of your videos, nice to finally chat with you :)

  • Nicely done, definitely considering getting one now.

  • I have the same thing but it's 2T instead of 500 GB!! HAHAHA!! good review though! Thanks!

  • cont... and it creates multiple folders on Facebook, all with the same name, each containing one picture!

    4. The torrent client is very poor. No-one would want to use it.

I'm going to return it as unfit for purpose. Won't buy Iomega again. Pity, because earlier NAS products were excellent.. someone hasn't thought this through and the software testing is obviously non-existent.

  • I jkust bought one of these... it has to be the most flawed and bug-ridden product I've ever seen. It is hardly fit for use.

    1. No spindown when inactive.. it is running 24/7, wating power and wearing out the drive. Needs wake-on-LAn implementing. Has to be switched on and off manually when wanted for use, defeating the purpose of a NAS

    2. iTunes server takes ages to actually serve new files added to the active folder, giving the impression that it is broken

    cont..

  • good review

  • @Naulton Thanks.

  • I Have a 1TB one of these hooked up to my BT router and another Iomega 1TB hooked up to it using the USB connection,i use for storing music, movies and photos which can be accessed through my 2 sons XBOX's and any of my 2 PC's and my laptop all wireless, very quick file transfer ,I also have another 2 - 1TB and 2 - 500 GB external HD's all Iomega in my opinion the only external HD's i would use

  • I have this one. The only problem is, when i try to transfer files from my computer TO the harddrive it takes ages... 32 GB takes like 3 days.........

Does the netspeed count? I have 30mbit, but i dont understand why it can take THAT long.....

answer would be appriciated ! =)

  • @Kakataeh Your internet speed doesn't, but your network 10BaseT, 100BaseT or Gigabit connection does.

  • Comment removed

  • @QUAY1E Thanks for your comment.

  • how do you use this hard drive?

  • @rosyrose711 Connect to your ethernet network, maybe a router.

  • Thanks for the excellent review. Now I want one!

  • @ronknights Thanks for your comment.

  • @davomrmac You're very welcome.

  • Go for western digital alot better nas drive..........

  • do we HAVE to install the software? We can't just access it or what?

  • @titanicdbog Just access it.

  • @davomrmac so all the computers will automatically see it?

  • @titanicdbog On some you might be have to install a small app to find it on your network, once you know the IP address of the device though it is easy.

  • I bought the 1TB for £99 at Staples :]

  • @videogaga999 Very good price, congrats!

  • @davomrmac Same here, and apparently now according to the packaging, the drives do indeed support torrents. If yours does not, then check out the software updates.

  • can't get it running on MAC OS X 10.6 - won't find the drive but I can see it on the web software - please help!!!

  • @Rodskin744 same prob....

  • Second one I've tried configuring, Iomega themselves through their online chat say both units are faulty.

    Avoid like the plague.

  • does this support bittorrent client? does the 1TB version has bittorrent client? If you can asnwer me it will be great.

  • With the latest firmware update, as far as I know, it now does support bittorrent.

  • Thanks for the info mate.

  • i had one of the earlier versions of this with and it caused nothign but trouble i had to replace it as the print server went wrong it. Iomega where good with there support i must say.

  • anyone know which brand make better exterior hard drives? iOmaga or Western Digital?

  • It's a piece of absolute rubbish.

After seven hours - 5 resets, upgrading the firmware, reinstalling the Home Manager three times - still my Mac will not see it.

Maybe it's OK for PC machines - but it ain't compatible for Macbook Pro machines running Leopard.

    Useless paperweight at best.

    Don't buy one.

  • yeah, don't buy a mac.

  • Does it support Esata

  • No, not this one.

  • UK pc world £130 1TB

  • Yup. That'll be with the early firmware and the badly coded Home Storage software.

    Avoid like swine flu.

  • I have the IOmega 1TB USB External HDD.

It is really a fab piece of kit.

  • i like how he says aluminum

  • yea it's how we say it here in the UK

  • @FlamingJoker112 The way you say it is technically the strange way. The more accepted spelling is Aluminium. Look at the Wikipedia page. : )

  • I guess it is also that in the UK we always think of aluminium as foil, that you use for cooking. Just a thought, but probably why I said it in that way.

  • Very good value. Nice vid.

  • Another Great Review Dave.
