  • this video will get you there, but in no time you will not have an edge left and will need to cut your sidewall. He uses a file instead of a coarse diamond stone for initial sharpening of the side edge. At least he doesnt show doing the base edge like crazy like so many videos do, which is correct. But he also doesnt mention the grit he is using on the stone. 100-200 for thick burrs or for dings, then 400 for edge, and 600 if you want mirror finish, PUT THE FILES AWAY PEOPLE!

  • nice vid! thanks

  • should this be done before or after you hot wax the board?

  • @billyschurman Before.

  • I work at a shop and I find it funny when people don't take care of their edges and say they wouldnt tell the difference. I certainely can when i hit a big icy spot and my edges are nice and sharp and I dont fall on my butt. It gets icy out here in cali and having good edges is a must.

  • i like his apron

  • Burton is sick. This guy knows what he is talkin about. And my t6 is a rocket ship

  • lol sharp like a butter knife :P

  • What the fuck is a gummie stone ?

  • its a coarse rubber stone. use it to take off rust. i use a file to detune the gummy stone takes to long :D

  • im new at this...is one degree better for park than three

  • where can i get one of these tools

  • sharp like a butter-knife

    haha

  • u need to be dumb to laugh at that... get a brain

  • you need to be dumb to waste your time thinking other people are dumb.

    you lose.

    youre dumb.

  • grow up!

cause what you are learning now I've already forgotten.

    Ps: you will always lose

  • Irony ftw haha

  • i didn't even notice that ha ha

  • Hey, Is that Seriously Terje's Board I know he rides a T6 But is that acctually his board if it is then how come he isnt Tuning it himself ?

  • uh i dont think he has to tune his own board himself he s terje the man is a living legend so...

  • if you have sharp edges and try a boardslide you will fall right on your face but you dont lose any grip when raiding and you dont catch your edges so which one do you think is a better idea

  • it depends what you ride, for instance, if your a park rat and only ride rails and urban obsticals, id prolly file it round in between your feet

only in between, so you can still hold and edge for the most part, and if you can nose press or tail press a kink, then goodluck tuning your setup

  • just balance it and do what this guy says with the 1 or 2 degree angles

  • with sharp edges yes with rounded edges no

  • ur an idiot

  • sick. now where do you suggest i buy the tools?

  • I'm not a big boarder, but am a huge fan of the sport, so excuse me if my question sounds stupid, but won't all this scraping/shaving or whatever, effect the shape of the board after a while?

  • i round my edge and its a good idea for anyone who can boardslide

  • whoa doesnt that make it hard to stop?

  • WOAH but the guy said lol

  • Does the sharpener you just used to give the 1 degree side edge also do the 2 degree base edge at the same time?

If not how do you do the base edge?

  • that much...really?

  • i ride park, so how do i know how angled the thing shud be?

  • if u ride park 2-3 degrees base edge is good so when u hit the rails you don't catch an edge, if your an all-mountain type like me 1 degree is ideal

  • great vid, thanks....

i like how he sais stone ahhaha st00ne ahha

  • ahha where's part one?

  • Terje is the man. 7,601 anyone?

  • i think that guy was mean

  • Ya I'm gonna leave it to the snowboard shop to tune mine haha

  • rofl i agree

  • yeah. maybe next year i'll learn this lol.

  • what about putting the degree of the bevel up? whats the purpose of this?

  • 1:37...thats what she said

  • lol "i like it a little wet, it creates less friction"

HAHA thx man wouldnta spotted that w/o you xD

  • "thats what she said"

  • exact same thought my friend

  • That was really helpful!

Now I know why Ive been catching edges on the boxes...coz my board hasn't been tuned! lol

  • uh i have a burton air 150 im not sure if that would fit

  • lol wayyyy too big.

    im 5'1" and i use a 142

  • your suppost to have a boardsize the same size from the floor to your chin, if your heavy for your hieght go next size up, and vice versa, im quite tall so it worked out i needed a 154, which was hugeee for a lanky 8stone guy like me so i got a 149.

  • exactly. which proves that the chin thing really dont mean shit unless you are a complete noob and dont know anything its a matter of prefence and foot size so you dont hang toes or heels off too much. im 6 foot, 180pounds and i own a 160 and i even have a 139 for thrashing when i feel like it.

  • any help would be nice

  • some of u guys are pricks. . .jeeze he's just tryin to help thnx for the help. . .but i just bought a brand new reccon-wide and on rails the base seems like its sticky as . . . .sheeit

  • you never explained how to put 2 degrees on the base, you used your hand as a guide. hows that 2 degrees?

  • Hey i just realised there's a subliminal message at the start of the video where it says method tv. Somebody please take that voice and play it backwards i wanna know what their trying to make us do!? Lol plz.

  • where you can buy all this stuff?

  • oh I dunno a snowboard shop maybe :P. Now that wasn't to hard was it.

  • this video is all fine and dandy if you have all these tools. On that table alone he has close to $100. Thats not very practical for any modern day snowboarder to have.

Why do they use a Burton? Their horrible!

  • ur a fucking idiot.

    1) Burton created and revolutionized the sport.

    2) In the long run its cheaper to wax and sharpen your own board and all the stuff he was using isnt exspensive at all the most exspensive thing was the vise and technichally you dont need one. Learn shit before you talk shit dumb ass.

  • true

  • I DO agree with you but I have to admit that Burton has really gone down the crapper. Especially with their lower end stuff. Rome ftw!

  • well, your'e right when it goes about boards, because they are horrible...

all the other burton-stuff as bindings or boots is really great, but if you buy a new board, then you may get a Nitro...

nothin' better then those, and i know what i'm talking!!

  • where would u get a diamond stone

  • anyone know anything about base-tuning on grindrite machines? i know how to operate the machine, but my art is horrible... any kind of help is appreciated

  • lol sharp like a butter knife... err..

really good! helped a lot thanks

  • these videos are great, but i dont want to screw myself over by messing up my edges horribly. ive never waxed or tuned/detuned before... i think it'd help alot more to have somone actually teach you how to do it than try to learn from videos. no idea what the heck to do from here

  • its common sense. just dont go crazy. you'll be fine. SHOULD wax your board.

  • yeah, my quick edge tuner (burton) is pretty crappy, cramped my arm up a bit but i think i did an okay job... i just sharpened the base edge to i think 88 degrees. dunno how to get the side edge or how to bevel it differently... not quite sure... but i need a gummy stone to smooth out the burrs from the couple uses.

  • hmm so for the side edge i need a file guide.. and a decent file.

  • would it be better to just send the board to a shop so they can tune it for you or just to wax and tune it yourself ive never waxed or tuned it before should i do it myself or what?

  • when did he file back the base edge? all is he did was clean up the base edge with a diamond stone, but that doesnt file the edge angle back.

  • thats a t6 it has pressure distributed edges... 1mm out where the bindings are, wont that file just fuck it up? any one filed the outer edge of a t6?

  • Swix website caries all that he uses. Also, go to your local ski shop and they will definitely have file guides, gummy stones, and diamond stones.

  • where we can find your tools?
