  • great setup, perfect habitat for the turtle.

  • You realy dont like that fish LOL

  • i have the same turtle but i know they bask but mine wont

  • @TheRogueReptile

Vets use the name chelonian, or something like that, basically it means all turtles because people can be so specific

  • you need a basking area.

  • snapping turtles are not turtles there lizards but with shell

  • @KNUCKLETHEHEDGHOGXX thats like saying snakes arent snakes, they are just lizards with no legs.

  • the long claws means its a male.

  • Look at the claws on that thing!! :-O Geeeez, looks pre-historic. How do you remove the turtle to clean out the tank?

  • LOL at all of the bickering. Makes for interesting reading.

On one hand, I am inclined to agree that a snapping turtle needs a dry basking spot. On the other hand, this turtle looks completely happy and healthy as it is. So you are obviously taking good care of him/her. I hope my snapper grows to be as pretty. Is yours male or female?

  • Wow, yomommabutisbig or whatever, that was rude! Um guessing you are a sad and miserable person in life. I think the vid is cute

  • MrCoryjohnson1, dude really, grow up get a life and you are probaly a 12 year old that has never even got to touch a girls pussy before so ha you and your damn gangsters can go f somewhere your baggy pants and all fucking retards you know that baggy pants statred in jail right to let people know they were gay no body has any sense these days

  • For all you "experts" out there that know everything, he something else you should know. Snapping turtles do bask. If you disagree with me then take a drive down a country road with a pond or lake nearby. See that thing laying in the middle of the road not moving anywhere? Well that would be a snapping turtle. You can run your mouth on youtube all you want but i want to see you go tell that snapping turtle to get back in the water because he doesn't need to bask or even get out of the water.

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 I totally agree with you. But, talk about "experts"...I can say one thing. I am an expert at eating pussy. Thank you very much and have a nice day...yee-haw!

  • @zcg3 If your such an "expert" put up a video so we can judge for ourselves :P HA HA HA

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 A video will not do justice. You'll have to wait till I get my bitches to make comments...

  • @zcg3 you sound about 12 when you talk like that

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 Actually, I'm 16 & I get lots of pootang. You seem to be intrigued...

  • @zcg3 No actually i'm sad because your a little punk who runs your mouth about crap on youtube, the world would be better off if you and all your little ganster buddies grew up. That is all i have to say to you kid, have a good day.

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 Thank you so much for those kind words. I feel sorry for your wife/girlfriend when they have to be around an insecure person like yourself. I say that only if you don't suck dick...which you probably do...fag!

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 no because i live in the city

  • How big is that tank?

  • haha awesome, subscribe to me sometime! love the videos!

  • you definately need a dry spot thats just mean thats like putting you in water and making you swim forever build those rocks up a couple more inches or so so he can chill out when he wants to breathe

  • @northeastatc dont talk when you dont know. adult snappers live underwater, they take a breathe every few hours. they only need a spot to stand on their hind legs and breathe for when they sleep. snappers are not red ear sliders, and they can float on teh surface.

  • @wyattthompson1 - put some rocks under his ass.... man if he gets tied he needs to breathe and relax....

    assholes

  • @wyattthompson i do know what im talking about, look at the baby snapper i took care of on my vid, he had a spot to sit and always did, just because yers hasnt died doesnt mean he wouldnt like a spot, im not trying to be a dick im just thinking of the animal, personally i find it gross that people take wild animals and slave them into pets, the one i found needed help and in the spring was let go to do what turtles do, your tank is clean ill give you that but thats all i give you credit 4

  • @northeastatc babies do need spots to rest, thats why i have multiple spots, when there adults they can hold thre breathe for around 4 hours. and while a rest spot wouldnt hurt, they dont need it.

  • @wyattthompson1 right on like i said i wasnt tryin to be a dick you obviously know what yer doin later mang

  • HE NEEDS A DRY SPOT TO REST OR HE WILL DROWN ASSHOLE

  • @coolcruise dont talk when you dont know. adult snappers live underwater, they take a breathe every few hours. they only need a spot to stand on their hind legs and breathe for when they sleep. snappers are not red ear sliders, and they can float on teh surface.

  • Nice little snapper. You may want to set up a place for it to bask. They don't do bask often but they do climb out of the water occasionally.

  • @kevinmccrty I had one for my Common snapper and he never went onto it. I had one in the tank for more than a year, different types too. With a light. Males only come out of the water to go to a different water source. And females do the same thing but also to lay eggs.

  • A dry spot is ok and i have one on top of my 125 aquarium that is homemade. There is a light to bask in too but they hardly ever use it. Snappers and mud or musk turtles that i have stay in most of the time. Red ears painted and softshells spend a lot of time basking.

  • i wanna have hot sex with your turtle

  • Comment removed

  • Snappers dont' really need dry area's like other turtles. Other than laying eggs, they will spend most/all of their entire lifetime lurking in murky water with lots of hiding places for ambush. They surface to breathe and that's about it. Snappers don't -need- a haul out or dry spot.

  • @1verstreate1 yeahhh they really dont. mine always destroys it...

  • @1verstreate1 i have a common snapper and he basks. A lot of people don't think they need them but they come out of the water to bask every so often, they don't come out to just lay eggs. They come out more often when they are young.

  • @tbeaver12, plus, snappers can, and do float on the surface to bask. If the water is warm, it'll induce basking behavior. If you have a good UVB light, and its not too far, then he'll get some UVB when he beaches the surface. UVB is needed to make vD3, which processes calcium.

  • too much water! Where is the dry area?

  • hey does anyone know where i can buy a snapping turttle around the inland empire or riverside county? in california? i know there illegal but i wana buy one really bad?

  • @TheTokyo1 There's an idiot right now on CRAIGSLIST selling an Alligator Snapping turtle. Actually I bet he's giving it away for free because he knows if he gets caught that that is a 6000 dollar fine and right now judging from the picture he posted that his Snapper looks to be about a good 20 plus pounds.

  • @TheTokyo1 Dude I'm near the IE if you need some turtle info just ask me. Also I'd say just get a European Pond Turtle they hunt with the same vaccuum swallowing mechanism snappers have but they are smaller. There is one currently for sale at a pet store in UPLAND off of BENSON its right up the street from BOOMERS mini golf course.

  • how old?

  • great aquarium size...nice turtle. Is that a feeder fish?

  • My florida and common snapper both bask. The common is about 1 and 1.5 inches and the Florida snapper is a hatchling. I house them along with a red ear and all 3 turtles bask regularly. I think as snappers get older they bask less but they DO bask so hopefully this clears up that misconception.

  • hahaha i remember when i was with my older cus and he said hey look a snapping turtle im like where he said there when i saw it i was like holy shit it was a young baby turtle so i picked it up and its head went all the way back and bit my finger thats the last time im touching anything in the wild

  • Also, you have a very nice setup. The water is some what murky which is good because it's a snapper and it can resemble it's natural habitat. You know what you're doing. :)

  • I did the research myself finding that the only turtles that bask are box, wood, spotted and painted, cooters, sliders, and maps. The turtles that don't need to bask are mud and musk, snapping turtles, almost any soft shell turtle, and side-necked turtles.

  • @RedEaredSliderCare how big can snapping turtle gets and is it good idea to put slider with snapper , i mean snapper are very aggressive and have toughest bite

  • I haven't come across a video on youtube showing any snapping turtle having a basking area which proves that almost all the owners of snapping turtles on here actually do the research, knowing they spend most of their time under the water. It's extremely rare for a snapper to come out of the water to bask, and UVB rays don't penetrate through the water, so it's a waste of time and money to use them.

  • he has no where to sun. I hate shitty pet owners

  • @Reptoyd actually, snapping turtles rarely if ever bask. they don't need a dry spot.

  • @Reptoyd i hate idiots who make stupid comments like that snapping turtles dont need a place to sun

  • cool, mine was passed down from my dad.

  • Btw this is my other account...forgot the ballpython's password lol and my turtle is far from ugly...go to your local river (if it inhabits snappers) and then you will see a ugly/dirty turtle. And i'm talking about leeches all over the turtle. I did catch a few more from the same river between 6" and 14" shell length and brought them home.....cleaned them up and gave them a nice meal before they were released. I used to work for a reptile special only meaning we breed thousands of reptiles

  • I caught this female about 9 or 10 years ago, in a river near my house. Had her ever since. This tank is a 75 gallon AGA Aquarium and the next one for her will be a 210 AGA aquarium. Snappers rarely bask, and the only time they come to the surface is to usually find a new waterhole or to lay eggs( get your info up) She does flot (usually at night) she is long/tall enough to have her rear feet on the bottom and her nose out of the water. Baby snapper's are docile towards other turtles

  • its gay

  • @The572198 No U.

  • its so cute

  • snappers dont have to bask right? and do snappers get along with other turtles? im planning to get a snapper and MABY put it in with my red ear slider (i only have a 38G tank -_-)

  • why the fuk do people cimplain about this tank. the water is perfect height. the tank is a greawt siaze. in the wild snappers do not bask, they merely poke the tops of there shells out the water, but very rarely. no baasking spot NEEDED.!

  • of course he needs.

that's why his turle is ugly..

  • of course he needs.

that's why his turtle is so ugly!!!

u'r not a good turtle dad man!!

  • Beautiful turtle! Awesome setup!

  • so cute

  • Is he now ok ? i think he just tired and died.

  • It sure doesn't seem to be having a good time desperately swimming back and forth and clearly looking for a basking spot. Turtles are not fish, they are wild animals who should not be living in a tank in someone's house and, for the record , 70camar0 what else are you an expert on except turtles and bad language

  • @visiogoth So when did fish not become wild animals? Just asking!!

And to the OP- You have a great looking turtle and VERY heathy, Its always nice to see an active Snapper, you know you have a good one. Keep up the great work

  • Why do people ALWAYS say to give a snapper a basking spot? THEY DONT FUCKING NEED ONE. jesus

  • She has gotten much bigger no new vids(forgot the password to my account ballpythons18) this is my new one...she is now in a 210 gallon aquarium, they do shed...but in the water it sloughs of slowly....so it actually kind of looks like they have a skin diasease but its perfectly norma(more noticable as the turtles get bigger)

  • He has no dry basking spot? :(

  • how big is your tank?

  • nice you dont fuck up your turtle up like others

  • I want a Snappper - But I have 4 RES and Im happay with them ...for now- untill i get enough Cash to get a Big Tank

  • How's he going BallP? I sometimes think of your little guy! My snapper is getting to the stage where he needs a bigger tank so I wish you were a bit closer and you could have mine.

The ideal set up is a tank no shorter than five times your turt's swim length and my turt (Burt) has got to that size. He's an eastern long neck snapper so almost half his length extended is in his neck, lol.

Anyway sending you and your turt good wishes and it's always good to see snapper owners who care. :)

  • Dude this vid is 3 years old, I doubt his snapper is a 'little guy' anymore...

  • Thanks for the update, um dude. They don't grow that fast, but whatever.

  • Faggot??!! My comment was 2 months ago. Get over it. If you think I'm silly for talking about turtles in a turtle vid thread, what does it make you for bothering to carry on about it? A colossal idiot. Go away.

  • You're an ignorant troll, and I've never seen a more inappropriate UserName. You should be YouTube banned for using the N word like that. Sickening. Don't bother replying to me - you're blocked. Get a life. What a way for you to spend your Valentines Day. Tragic.

  • I also have a snapper an alligator snapper. Hes still a baby and i gave him a big tank like 10 times his size :D hope your turtle is ok.

  • That is kind and clever of you to get him a tank that will cater for his growth. Thank you for asking, yes my turt is a very happy little fellow and still has plenty of room to swim and bask, but not 10x, which I would like for him, too. I recently priced out tanks and they're not as expensive as I thought so will take the plunge soon.

Nice to see a decent comment that doesn't include hate speech. Have a good day. :)

  • were did you get the alligator snapper

  • @hunterX1232 When I got my snapper he was about big as a half doller now hes big around as a softball. I bought him a 55 gallon tank some people say thats to big. what do you think? Thanks for any help.

  • @jakespeed23 thats fine for now

  • @jakespeed23 a little tall maybe. you can fix that easy by making shallow spots with rocks and stuff

  • @jakespeed23 That size is actually very fine for your turtle. hope you have a good day

  • @hunterX1232 WHERE do you buy a snapping turtle dude/?

  • @TheSonicMidgetRF You cant buy them you have to get them in the wild. Mines wild and they are VERY dangerous!

  • Gamera!

  • Wow, what a nice clean tank he has! He needs a spot where he can come out and bask in the light from the UVA and UVB lights. Even though you don't typically see these guys hauling themselves completely out, they still need the vitamin D from the UVB light for their shells to harden properly. Otherwise, you have a nice tank for him :)

  • You need a dry spot

  • @ed260z that's impossible to happen if you keep hitting the G-spot

  • @ed260z not neccesarily, the dry spot would not be needed indoors with the lone turtle, as they are mainly used by females to lay eggs

  • i thought that it was goin 2 eat the fish

  • i want him to eat the fish

  • what size tank is this

  • so cute!!

  • Arrghhh, me again.

Sorry, I worked out it wasn't Tony's... oops.

The above comment was to ballpythons (although, as fits, to Tony. :) )

And Ballp, thank YOU for posting this vid. We all luvs our snappers. :)

  • Hi Tony

I just watched your vid again. :)

With depth of the tank, you may need a bigger tank or a retainer section for a platform so your turt doesn't get out the top.

You could drop the water level in the tank but not as far as the turtle can't right itself.

Oh, and the UVB fluoros are called Repti Glo.

LOL, sorry for being a turtle mama.

    Three things:

    1. Filtration (if you can't afford an expensive filter, change half the water every month at least)

    2. A platform

    3. UVB lighting

  • he looks like the old turtle master from Kung Fu Panda XD

  • More like Godzilla lol

  • lol, who gives a damn that you are going to college, also i did not fail grammar, i feel that i dont need to use it as much as i did in school, the second thing is ya you better be glad, because if you went to my school you'd just get your ass kicked. leave me alone you damn'd piece of shit, and no i did not fail science, btw is it a crime to ask a question? i don't think so, and your becoming a marine biologist right? well guess what go sleep with the fish that you study, so fuck off !!!!!!!!!!

  • how often do you feed it?

  • do snapping turtles need land in there tanks ? i have a medim sized snapper but i dont keep the water this deep. and theres apart where he can get a land. or should i have the whole tank filled with deep water ?

  • Tony, yes they need to bask and dry out.

If your tank does not have a platform you can buy a floating one.

Another note - snappers DO need good filtration. As someone earlier pointed out, they should not have to live in their own substrate if they are captive.

So for me - a snapper turtle owner and lover, lol - provide good filtration (cannister best for turtles) and DEFINITELY a platform for basking.

These wonderful creatures can live to 100 years plus if we are fair in their tank needs. :)

  • cool . thank you. i'll definatlyhave to look into getting a platform . i hope to have my turtle for most of my life. thanx!-tony

  • yw, Tony. Really a platform makes like easier for them. Your turtle will thank you :) for those times he just wants to chill out, and also it is heathy for him to be able to dry out when he wants.

Another good thing for him is a UVB light. It will help with shell and vitamin levels.

Search the internet for making your own turt platform as bought ones can be expensive. The UVB is a bit dear and you need to get it new but it really is necessary for turts in tanks.

    Thanks 4 posting the video!

  • I kept expecting it to attack the fish haha Very cute!! :D

  • do they have to have a filtered water tank be cause we dont have a filter in the creeks tht they live in also do you think a 10 gallon tank would do well for an alligator snapper

  • yes they need a filter and a huge one at that. a 10 gallon is ok for a few months but if you feed them correctly they grow very quickly so youll want a 50 gallon or larger just for the first year or 2 if you are lucky eventually though youll need a small pond with around 800 gallons of water for it when it starts to get big

  • NO. Alligator snapping turtles grow really BIG. It might be okay for a BABY snapping turtle. But you will have to get a bigger and more expensive tank soon. Might as well save money and get a big tank now.

Do not get one unless you plan on getting a bigger tank in the future.

Turtle's live VERY long. Do you think you can raise one for YEARS? This is a big decision you have to make. Don't just go out and get a turtle without thinking ahead.

  • your an idiot...why? you ask. first things first moron. your name "slipknowtkid" its gay. also 10 gallons for an any turtle is too small, especially for an alligator snapping turtle. I would say you need a pond for that, indoor or outdoor, 5 feet by 5 feet minimum. my snapping turtle is in a pond 3 ft by 7 feet, and hes not alligator his shell is 14 inches in diameter. get a brain slipknotkid

  • wow mathdebater i do have a brain and if you think my name is retarded well so be it it might be to you but ook on the brightside im better at science and i like learning about an animal before i get 1 so shut the fuck up and leave me to my buisness and ur the moronic dimwhit not me dumb ass

  • You stupid little child. go watch some UFC. Anyways little one, I am currently in college getting my degree in Marine Biology, so please do not tell me you are better at science. You are the farthest thing from a scientist. Only an idiot would ever ask the question "can a snapping turtle be housed in a 10 gallon aquarium?" I rest my case dumbass. Oh yeah, by the way, I see you failed grammar as well...no punctuation in your entire paragraph of writing. Glad I didn't go to the same school as you

  • Kid, you spelled dimwit wrong.... I suggest you go retake grade school, then get your turtle. If your grammar is as good as your turtle care taking skills, you shouldn't buy a turtle. On top of that you don't sound mature enough to handle taking care of a turtle. Oh, and yeah, your a great example of American public school education.

  • ok wanna know sumthing u can fuck off also and im learning i didnt say i had any experience w/ a snapper at all so fuck off

  • Hey, could you use a outdoor above ground pool to house a snapper?

  • No, chlorene can kill the turtle

  • I know its bad and I never give it to my turtle but how EXACTLY does it effect the turtle?

  • Not that your FEEDING it but the chlorene effects their skin and shells

  • anybody know if turtles shed or molt there skin?

  • they don't but they do release a slimy skin like substance when growing

  • wow thanks. My little snappy was molting little pieces of skin and i thought he was sick. Thanks!:)

  • Your welcome!

  • do they sleep under water

  • they do need some land for them to sleep

  • @jgmtiger

my turtles always sleep under water. but you`re right that they need some land with + infrared lamp its importand for their shell

  • they don't need land to sleep. turtles sleep under water smart one.

  • ok and iv sed all ready i know that i just dotn understand how they do it

  • They still need to breathe you know...

  • moron they sleep underwater

  • omg are you just on a war path to be a dick or somthin READ WHAT I SED i sed " i know they do just dont understand how they sleep under water while breathing

  • read what you sed? i dont understand. I guess I can answer that for you. They don't sleep under water, they hold their breath. They can hold their breath a long time. Thanks for listening. It's just funny to see someone ask the same question as the last person, but not read any responses to their question or to others questions. Hope this clarified your muddled brain.

  • They can and do sleep underwater. They can breathe out of their - wait for it - bums... called cloakas.

  • p0or fish

  • Nice!! can't wait to get mine!! :)

    5 stars!!..

  • where's the basking area????

  • snapping turtles are mostly aquatic meaning they don't need to bask :)

  • that is true but most aquatic turtles do bask but just not tha snapper

  • Actually some snappers have been seen basking. Hell even river turtles and snake necked turtles have been seen basking.

  • They are semi aquatic and actually do need to bask (for shell strength, at the least). All snappers should have a resting platform. They are not too dear - maybe $50 - or if you're handy you can make one up yourself. Even a couple of bricks on end will do the job if you place them securely. Please turt friends - give your snapper a platform.

  • wish i had $400 to spend on a tank even when you can make one if you know how thats 4x thissize for only $100 wich is alot better then $400

  • actually your wrong dude. a tank that size would cost more to make than if you just bought the tank at a store, once you get over 100g then its cheaper to make them out of wood

  • Where does he go to dry his shell out? If you are not going to let him dry his shell out every day you need to atleast take a tooth brush to his shell once a month. Stop being cruel.

  • Snapping turtles spend nearly their entire lives at the bottom of bodies of water. They only come on land to nest, or at times to find more suitable territory.

  • how the hell can you tell from this video they don't do that?

so your saying snapping turtles can't have time underwater to eat??? Stop being cruel.

  • get a bigger tank!!

  • actually that tank is fine... for the future he'll probably need a stock tank

  • this tank i snot fine it does not have a basking area at all

  • snapping turtles do not bask... if they do, its on a rare occasion

  • it's so cute :D

  • doesnt it need air once in awhile

  • yeah. There is a ir at the top you just can't see it.

  • you know you shouldnt put the fishs in there with the snapping turtle, the turtle would eat the fishs, so yeh

  • that's for it to eat

  • i love their long tail

  • Looks like you have waiy too much water in there. They are supposed to be able to sit on bottom and stick head out to breathe. May want to make half of the tank a little higher.

  • I bet he like pancakes.

  • ROFL!!!!!!

  • I don't get it...

  • cool

  • I never get tired of this veido it rules!

  • video i mean.

  • how big is that tank?

  • and they live to be 200 apparently

  • how much would one of these cost....?

  • umm i went to a exotic pet shop 4 hours from my house they had a common for like 20$ and a adult was 50 and alligator was 75 baby and 500$ adult cause tehy get HUGE but im geting a common for free cause they hatch at my pond but go around and search for when they hatch in your area and goto a lake on a warm day when the hatching date if and you can catch you a baby thats what im doin

  • You NEVER go "catch" one from the wild! Jerk. You BUY those who are born in captivity.
