@vghardcore People underate Henry's contributions because France was Zidane's team but if you analyse it more closely his contribution are vastly underated. He is France's alltime leader in goals AND assists.

Was golden boot winner and golden ball winner at 2003 confederations cup. France player of the year, PL player of the year, FWA footballer of the year, won the 2003 PL goal of the season award, etc. He was runner up for the Fifa World player of the year award two years in a row, but many thought he should have won, even Zidane.

@vghardcore I said 2003 to 2006. He was a newbie in 98 playing as a winger in a team that was built around Zidane. In 2003 and 2004 he was the most feared striker and the best player in the world. Those 2 seasons he was at his absolute peak. Led France to the confederation cup victory (without Zidane). Was the leader in goals and assists for club and country, and also European Golden boot winner in back to back seasons, which had never been done before (2004 & 2005).

@vghardcore Henry is my favourite player and I feel he was the best striker from 2003 to 2006, but I have a lot of respect for Ronaldo and how he came back and proved his critics wrong at the 2002 WC. We will never know what might have been without those injuries. I believe he would have dominated the game today in his prime, as he was complete and had the coolest head in front of goal. I also think the art of defending is a dying art. In the last world cup there were so many poor performances.

@vghardcore Also he was just as good without the ball, his movement and the timing of his runs were exceptional. Extremely high football IQ, plus all the athletic gifts he had. Great upper-body strength, couldn't be pushed off the ball which is why he was violently fouled so often. That season at Barcelona might be his greatest individual season.

@vghardcore Easily the old Ronaldo. The pre-injury Ronaldo is the most dominant footballer I've ever seen. He had it all; explosive power, speed, technique, balance, accuracy, dribbling ability, tricks, composure. The best at running with the ball. Those feet were golden, he didn't like to use his head much like many great Brazilian players before him. One of the most destructive forces that has ever stepped on a football pitch.

@vghardcore Yeah Anelka's reputation cost him lots of international caps. He could never settle at one club. He's played for 8 clubs. Also he didn't start as many games for Arsenal in the 97/98 season as he was the understudy for Ian Wright. The next season (98/99) he was the PL young player of the year. The decision to leave Ginola out of France 98 was controversial. Jacquets went for youth over experience. Viera was still young 2 b given such an important role in the midfield but It paid off.

@vghardcore That's cool. France (and Holland) had the strongest midfield of the European teams with Zidane, Viera, Petit and Pires, but they also had David Trezeguet upfront. Yeah Henry was on the wing. He was unknown in the world of football at that time. Went straight into the national first team from Monaco and was France's top scorer in the 98 WC. Anelka wasn't selected to the WC squad. I still don't know why. He was one of the best players in the premier league that season.

@vghardcore Ronaldo was not himself in the 98 final. He should not have played that match but he had to because of his sponsers, Nike. He went into the game just shortly after having a seizure. Anyone watching that final could see that something wasn't right with him, especially as up on to that point he had been the player of the tournament. But it was a well deserved win for France and Zidane.
